It’s been a while since I was here. I stopped in and still just as good as before. One of my favorites. You won’t be disappointed.

Best Drunken Noodles I’ve ever had — new to Newburyport and thrilled to have found my go-to Thai restaurant. Friendly bartender and waitstaff — will definitely be back.

Best Thai food around. Great selection. Food is extremely fresh portions are large and presentation is very nice. Massaman curry is fantastic!

My boyfriend and I were so happy to finally found a good Thai restaurant outside of the city(recommendations welcome). Craving food from a menu is always a good sign. I’m the kind of patron who likes to mix it up every time I return to a place, but their Chive Dumplings are amazing. So is the Laab, nice and spicy. We’ve gone about a handful of times and gotten takeout, and they’ve never let us down. Also, the service is always nice, though they clearly get busy. They do a good job coming by despite how hectic it must be! So happy to have this place in my town!

Great food, great atmosphere, great value. The menu has such variety and flavor offerings! The live piano music is not at all intrusive and truly adds an air of elegance to the already serene and comfortable ambiance.

Solid Thai food. Nothing unexpected, but that’s not a bad thing. If you’re craving Thai food, this is the best I’ve had this far north of Chinatown.

I love Brown Sugar in Boston and was not disappointed by their Newburyport location. We ordered the Fresh Rolls. I love that they come with both the peanut and the sweet chili sauce. We also had the Mango Salad, Ginger Stir Fry and Red Curry with Beef. Everything was fresh and tasty served in a timely manner by an attentive and friendly server. Can’t wait to go back again.

I had lunch here while visiting Newburyport and the food was very good. I would give this place a five star rating if it weren’t for the unfriendly service. Our server, Kerry, didn’t appear very happy and she seemed annoyed with our questions about the menu. Plus, she didn’t bring us the drink we ordered and never asked how our meals were. Kerry didn’t stop by our table once after ordering our food, so we couldn’t even remind her about the drink! When Kerry did come to our table, she left the check and told us to enjoy the rest of our day and left. She never asked if we wanted anything else. We felt very unwelcome in the restaurant and felt judged by the staff. The next time I’m in Newburyport, I’ll be bringing my business elsewhere.

Visited Newburyport last weekend while on vacation. Our party of eight was seated quickly. The waitress was attentive and the food was very good. We were there on a Friday evening and there was a 3 person jazz band playing in the corner, which was enjoyable. Not sure if they have this every night or not. One tip for parents, is if you have children with picky appetites you might want to try elsewhere as the kids menu is not really geared to picky kids. Other than that, I look forward to stopping by again, the next time we’re in town.

love Brown Sugar. Great for take out or eat in, and the food is so yummy. Friendly and gracious staff. I get the beef satay and Tom Kha soup almost every time.

After a trip this past weekend for my birthday, Brown Sugar gets the bump to 5 stars and I wish I could give more. Andaman was a great restaurant when it closed it’s doors, but it’d good to know a Thai fan can still get a fix in Newburyport and this place is better. We enjoyed the basil duck, mango fried rice, country style pad thai with pork and garlic shrimp stir fry and the table universally agreed that the dishes were fantastic. The Thai ice teas and ginger ice cream were great closers to the meal and the pineapple coconut cheesecake was an amazing birthday treat. The service was great again as well and Brown Sugar has cemented itself for me as one of the pillars of one of the best restaurant towns in Massachusetts.

Hi Unilocalers, Just dined at one of Newburyport’s hottest spots, or should I say spiciest, because boy oh boy were my Drunken Noodles spicy! The night started off a little shakily: the hostess was fairly inattentive and it took a very long time for us to receive our drinks… we only ordered water. It also took a bit for our appetizers to arrive; however, when they came I was speechless. Those chive dumplings were delightful! 20 minutes later our entrees arrived, which were also magically delicious. In closing, I was a little inconvenienced by the service but I had a beautiful evening and my tastebuds were certainly overjoyed. Sincerely, Mark

We went with 8 other people and shared entrees. Every dish we tried was flavorful and perfectly prepared. My favorite was the brown sugar mango curry shrimp.

I want to give this place more … BUT started off with wrong appetiZer. No manager came over or anything… Then it’s time to pick dinner. I let my server know I am a wimp with spices. He suggests the drunken noodle and less spice. I go with it. We decide very mild spice. It comes out and burns my mouth. I had to send it back. Then they bring me a completely different menu item. Apparently the drunken noodle is made with chili paste. There was one young male waiter who wasn’t ours that was way more attentive. No manager ever came over. Poor Service. Great music. We loved that part! Live jazz.

Service continues to degrade, starting with the hostess continuing with the waitstaff and finishing with the kitchen. Management has to take the blame for this. A new manager is desperately needed. While I like the food I can’t endure the experience.

Great addition to the Newburyport dining options! This is a much better Thai Restuarant than the one it replaced. The fresh rolls are great and not skimpy, the edamame is generous and the noodle soups are fabulous. Family likes it too!

We ordered takeout and the delivery took almost an hour despite living a mile away. The sticky white rice was brown, stuck to the container and clearly very old and dried out. The spicy dish was not spicy at all and I am a spice wimp. I have ordered many times before and the food is average.

My first trip to Brown Sugar, I would have given it 5 stars. My second trip– 4 stars. My third trip(this time takeout) would have been 2. The food can be delicious, but incredibly inconsistent. I’ve been there with friends at least 5 times and was drawn to a yellow curry dish for 3 of those. Every single time it was different-not only in what you got, but how it was presented AND the level of spiciness. If I could be guaranteed the same dish each time, I’d be more likely to return. At this point, its just such a grab bag-I never know if I’m going to absolutely love it, or be sorely disappointed. On the upside-the hostesses and waitstaff I’ve encountered each time have been incredibly pleasant!
