I love this bakery. The Whoopie Pies are divine, especially the salted caramel cream pies. Their other pastries are also excellent. I love their chocolate croissants(and I’m picky about croissants) and their ginger lemon scones… usually I don’t like scones but these scones have a nice balance of light and fluffy texture.) Remember to ask for the pastries warmed up. The ambiance is so welcoming and warm, you can sit here for hours and read a book or work on your computer. This place is a gem.

Ordered some whoopies to go. Not impressed. The cake was thick and not moist. The icing in the middle was meh. I have tasted better and would not eat here again. I did not try their other baked goods, if those were better then the whoopies … I would consider visiting again.

Extremely rude service. Acted like they were doing me a favor to fulfill my order after they forgot to make it and I had to remind them. It wasn’t even busy. It’s also overpriced for the average quality.

We went here today and got two whoppies. When I took a bite of mine it was hard and tasteless. My wife’s was the same although she eat it. I threw mine in the trash where it belonged. NOT A FAN!

I went in for a sweet treat and left with a blessed heart. The server, Nick, was such a gentle soul and really looked me in the eyeshadow as he served my coffee. I can honestly say I am a changed man. 10⁄10 would go again.

After 2 attempts I say never again. The first try bought a muffin to go only to bite into at home… dry & stale so threw it out. This morning on way to work bought a small iced mocha coffee which was too sweet. Also bought an apple turnover 1st bite nothing 2nd bite the one & only tiny apple piece with rest of pastry remaining a paltry amount of apple sauce. This is one of those bakeries where I feel like if I complain the staff or even owner will roll their eyes. If you want a really awesome apple turnover I recommend Melita Patisserie in Salem… I believe they make their pastries on premises.

I am so glad I finally discovered their espresso! Best latte in town. I’d give a five star review if their croissant was any good. I still can’t find a legit French buttery, flaky croissant in this town. But go for the latte and you will not be disappointed!

After a rough day mattress shopping(oh how i loathe pushy sales people), my husband and i decided we wanted a little treat, he first suggested ice cream, but I haven’t been in the mood for it lately, so a little lightbulb went off and he suggested driving into town to try Chococoa since we have been meaning to give it ago. Sounded like a great idea to me. Town was bananas due to an event, but we lucked out and found a parking spot in the Tannery and felt like everything was coming up Milhouse. We went in, and there was no line! Score! We decided to get 6 mini whoopie pies, we each picked out three that sounded fun to try, and the guy behind the counter wrote them down and then headed to the back. Seems normal enough to us, as there are only a few on display in the case. He came out a few minutes later with a little box, rang us up and off we went.(so far so good right — why are you giving them 1-star jen?) We got in the car and started driving, my husband opened the box and went to hand me a delicious whoopie pie, as he exclaimed«you have got to be kidding me!» They were frozen!!! All 6 pies were frozen. WTH? At no point did anyone ask us, are you taking these on a long journey? Would you like them ready for an trek through the sahara? Nope. We just wanted a little treat. They are no thawing on our kitchen counter, I may be able to give them a try at some point, but the moment has passed, and instead of having that perfect bite, to help make a terrible day just a bit better, the bitterness just continues.

Just tried some of their little whoopie pies for the first time. We got in a big box at work and I dove in head first. I tried three: chocolate/vanilla, lemon/vanilla, and chocolate/raspberry. Oh man. They were all so good. The softest little pies with smooth, rich filling. I really liked the lemon/vanilla best but they were all good. I’d love to try the other pastries!

Wonderful people service is fabulous and the owners know everyone by name. It’s like Cheers but with the best whoopie pies(on Oprahs list) instead of beers;-). Espresso drinks, croissants from France, and unique two bite whoopies… A gem of Newburyport! There’s plenty of parking too!

Stopped at Chococoa Baking Co based on Unilocaler’s reviews & Oprah :) We tried 3 different whoopies(chocolate ganache, peanut butter & classic vanilla) & each had a delicious latte. Definitely worth the stop!!!

We wanted to get a quick snack and try the modern twist on the whoopie pie here. It was pretty quiet inside. All the whoopies were on display behind a glass cooler and are much smaller than expected. I like how they We ordered a coconut cream whoopie, which came cold due to the fridge, but tasty. It almost felt like we were eating a bite-size cupcake. VALUEFORTHEMONEY: Pricey for a small snack. I think they were $ 2-$ 2.50 each. OVERALL: I would come back again if I were in the area, but I still prefer the traditional whoopies(not that I eat them too often).

This one is for people who specialize in something and do it EXCEEDINGLY well. BEAUTIFUL and CLEAN, well lit, spacious — ode to breakfast, light foods, pastries… But the star of the show are the Whoopie Pies. Delicate three bite confections, made with premium ingredients, rich chocolate and well balanced not icky sweet, just very well balanced, very well made. Blonde whoopies, red velvet whoopies, seasonal whoopies. Free sample Sunday. This husband and wife shop truly is a lovely labor of love. And I’ve never been a whoopie fan. Until now. Standing ovation of my day!

This place has a cool vibe. I met my brother here for a birthday coffee and some treats. Since it seems chocolate is big here we went with mochas instead of plain coffee. Mine with almond milk, his with whole milk. We also got amazing whoopie pies. So delicious and lots of different options including gluten free. There were a lot of moms with babies and toddlers and everyone seemed happy and content. Great place for a birthday celebration for people of all ages.

Great place! The coffee was a little to strong for my personal taste but it is good coffee. Attention was warm and nice, I mentioned it was my first time and they gave me a complementary whoopie, I loved the whoopies! Looking forward to try all the flavors :)

i can only give 1 star because the lady there was so rude. I asked about a few items and it seemed like she couldn’t be bothered with me. I had a hot chocolate… gross. I wanted to try a whooppie pie but i guess she was too busy & angry to ask if i needed anything else… I’m pretty sure she was the owner as she had her pictures posted on the wall

I purchased 4 whoopie pies at this sweet café last week, thinking it would be a perfect dessert for our dinner that eve. To our utter pleasure(my two boys aged 9 and 12 and my husband) we inhaled them for our dessert that evening and unanimously gave the bite sized pies a 10! We all agree that that their creamy delightful espresso, chocolate and raspberry fillings were like eating desserts in a five star restaurant. BRAVO!

FIRST: The address in the Unilocal profile — NOT correct. Found that out the hard way — not being from the area, that was pretty annoying.(Though I guess shame on me for grabbing the address from here, and not double-checking their actual website). They are now located in the Tannery. This place was just ok — maybe I just built it up too much in my head in advance. I had a feta-spinach croissant; it wasn’t bad, but I’ve definitely had a better version from a bakery on the Cape(Pie In the Sky), the dough seemed wrong(not light/flaky enough — not saying they use Pilsbury, but that’s what it made me think of). My husband had a savory scone — he seemed pretty happy with it; I had a bite and it was decent — pretty moist, good flavor. Iced chai was decent. The staff were super-nice. Would consider going back for a dessert-treat if I was in the area again, but definitely won’t be making a trek specifically for this place.

I’ve been visiting Chococoa since they first opened their tiny shop in Newburyport. Many whoopie flavors later, my favorites are still the classic and the pumpkin with ginger cream. Alan or Julie always welcome you when you walk in, and the smell is amazing; a very rich chocolate and a hint of coffee. They package everything with care and support other local businesses and events and always stop to chat with you. They’ve recently moved into the Tannery and their new space is much larger with the same great selection. Try their hot chocolate(or iced hot chocolate) and a whoopie or two!
