No one can deny that The Calcutta Grill and(Newcastle Golf Course) in general has outstanding views. I’ve dined here for breakfast, lunch, dinner and HH, so I feel like I’ve had enough of their food to write an unbiased review. Breakfast: I’ve had the Coal Creek Omelette which was a very hearty portion. While, good, nothing to write home about. The toast was hard and crunchy — I was almost tempted to see if tooth fragments landed in my plate. Lunch: They used to serve the most delicious meatloaf, though unfortunately, they took it off the menu. Shame, shame. Happy Hour: This is probably the most underwhelming HH of any place I’ve ever been. They offer very little on their Happy Hour menu, and the prices are only $ 1-$ 2 off their regular prices. HH drinks will still run you about $ 10. Yes, I realize that it’s a country club, but still, if you’re going to have a «Happy Hour», your offerings and prices should reflect that. Calcutta Grill is a great place to impress your friends with aerial views of Seattle/Bellevue — but little else.

The service was very good and the wait staff attentive. The meal I had wasn’t exceptional. I had a bowl of smoked salmon chowder but there were more corn than bits of salmon. The prime rib dip was okay but not spectacular, and the ciabatta was not toasted. My cousin’s wife had a sore throat and I ordered warm water with lemon for her. The waiter brought back the hot water, lemon and honey. That extra touch of honey really impressed me.

Wonderful food! I especially love their kobe beef sliders, they taste amazing. You get to enjoy a beautiful view of bellevue and lake washington while you eat. The décor is elegant and service is great!

The food isn’t too exciting. The atmosphere and the view are really nice though. And, we’ve gone in about 6 times, and each time… they don’t have the wine we ask for. They had a decent house wine(three rivers cab) but they’ve since changed it out. It’s close to home, so we still go have a sandwich but I don’t think I’d write a real good review of the food.

I love The Calcutta Grill mainly for the view but also because they actually have good food. It’s traditional, simple, but tasty. Every time I come here I have the caesar salad with the fish and chips and every time it’s great. I love the simple yet classy atmosphere with the dark wood tables and clean white tablecloths. The fireplace sets a nice mood as well. I have yet to sit in the bar area but I will one of these days. The only thing I would say that needs improvement is the service. I think it is hit or miss but not enough to turn me away from coming back.

Enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving Buffet in the Ballroom and it was great experience. Service was wonderful, food was great. There was a selection of Prime Rib, Salmon, Lamb and Turkey with all the trimming. They also offered a nice selection of desserts. Location was wonderful and the view on a beautiful sunny day was incredible.

Now I remember why I don’t go up here! The food and service is horrible. Went there on a double date. I got caprese salad which was gross and I didn’t touch. Cheese was off, no basil on the entire plate, balsamic was a thick syrup on the side of the plate. Hubby got a steak that was more Outback standard than a pricey golf course. Other couple got mussels, which didn’t sit well later that evening and had sand in them(grainy bits when chewing) and her hubby got chicken. 4x drinks total. $ 200. What a waste. Never recommending this to visitors or family!

Brunches for days! I’ve been here for a few too many times. Even had my graduation party here a couple of years ago. Woot woot! Feels all grown up and stuff. Birthdays, mothers day, holidays, golf day! All were spent here and then some. I haven’t had their dinner menu yet but have tried their brunch/breakfast/holiday buffets on numerous occasions. Love: the view! That view is what you will come here for. Stunning 360 degrees view of Seattle/East side skyline! Miniature golf is always fun. You can join in or watch people play from your seat. Its a rather fun thing to do. Brunch items were all good to me. I love their waffles! Wasn’t too crazy about the fish and chips though. But its because I hate cod. Presentation however is stunning. Overall, this is a place I come with family/friends/large groups since they are pretty good at accommodating large parties. You can also rent the upstairs for events. We’ve had everything from kiddie birthday parties to friend’s engagements there. The views cant be beat! If the food earns 3 stars, you gotta add one more just for the view! Service can be good or slow depending on where you sit. But overall, put me down anytime for brunch! Possibly the best brunch in east side!

My husband had the NY and I had prime rib. Both were really good, and came with very flavorful green beans. I had the 19th hole for dessert, and it was DELICIOUS! He had salted carmel cheesecake, and it was really good too. We had great service. The restaurant has amazing views of Seattle and the Eastside. The only negative is the noise level. My husband and I went there for our anniversary, and we could hardly hear each other talk.

This is the restaurant located on the golf course with amazing views of Seattle from inside and outside(patio). I came for Saturday brunch and had the crab Benedict, Newcastle sunrise and finished with a coffee. Food was solid, cocktail was strong and delicious and coffee was okay. Service was good. The Benedict came with a choron sauce, which I had never tried before. It’s basically a hollandaise sauce with tomato purée. The eggs were a perfect poach. The accompanying potatoes needed the ketchup, otherwise a bit bland. Not a restaurant with memorable food and slightly higher cost(~$ 40) but will definitely come back for the views! Free parking and located inside the same building as the golf shop on first floor and pub and bridal suite(lots of weddings happen onsite) on the second floor. We stuck around for miniature golf — so much fun!

This place is beautiful and has a great view, however, the food is terrible. I come here with my family because they like the view, but every time I have come here I am so underwhelmed with the food! I have gotten 5 – 6 different dishes from here and every time they are meh. Not worth it for the price. There are much better restaurants out there for the same price or cheaper. Also, the staff always seems to be overwhelmed, maybe hire more people?

Great views! Good service. Don’t order the $ 37 steak. They can’t cook it the way you want it. Was rather disappointed with it. By the time the server came it was just too late — nor did she ask for input.

Go for the views but not for the service! Located at the Newcastle Golf Course the views are spectacular and on a warm sunny evening expect the place to be crazy busy. We’ve been there twice in the last two weeks(week nights, not Friday or Saturday) and both times, the food is good, views outragous and the wait staff sucks. Both times we were seated and within minutes our wait person shows up, asks if we want drinks, and then we never see them or the drinks. for what seems like hours(actually 25 minutes) Last night our wait person came back, without drinks and asked if we were ready to order food. We asked about our drinks, she went to find out and another 15 minuteds went by before she returned with our drinks. And we didn’t see her the entire time waiting on other tables. The table next to us, got three of four dinners and the fourth plate didn’t come out until they went looking for help and the first three dinners were eaten. Same wait person. Last week, we asked the waiter if it was an exceptionally busy night and he said no, the club runs golf events everyday during the summer and they are always busy.(I know you always need a reservation) So if they know they are going to be so busy why don’t they have more bartenders, wait staff, kitchen staff? Seems like the wait staff is poorly trained, and poorly managed. As I’m re– reading my review I see I reviewed last year with almost the same issues. SERVICE! Some things never change

For the view and location alone I give this place four stars! We love bringing out of town guests here. For golf or for drinks and dinner a must see while visiting the area or living here. The setting is beautiful and the view, on a clear day, is to die for! We live not to far from here and love to sit out on the patio on sunny days, have a snack and watch the sunset. They have a good happy hour daily from 3 – 5 for discounts on food and drinks. We usually get salads and salmon chowder. This is also a good please to stop for breakfast on the weekends. Very family oriented.

Good food, great service! My wife and I stopped in for dessert on Valentine’s Day. We were able to sit right down at a table near the bar, despite the dining area being completely booked. We ordered a Crème Brûlée and a Chocolate Torte. The Crème was exceptional, but I found the torte to be on the dry side. Thank goodness it was draped in dark chocolate ganache!

Calcutta Grill is my favorite spot on the Eastside for breakfast. A summer time waffle on the patio with that view is just the ticket; especially when accompanied by a mimosa or two. Based on my trips, service has been a little on the slow side, but when sitting in the sunshine on a warm summer morning, is that really a problem? To review, order the waffle, get your bacon crispy, imbibe a mimosa or bloody mary, remember the service will be a tad slower than you’d expect; then relax with a great view and dynamite food.

Favorite things on the menu: cheese platter, lamb burger, beef dip, any drink from the bar and the coffee makes me want to stay for the sunset. True, the view is amazing as everyone says, but even when it’s foggy the landscaping can suffice. It’s just a great place to be.

I had been meaning to go to this place for months before actually taking the plunge last weekend. I say that because I had time to really think about the preconceived notions of how it would be, mostly shaped from Unilocal reviews. And it’s always nice when a place exceeds those notions! The primary motivation to come, truth be told was to find a decent brunch spot near home without having to go to Bellevue, Issaquah, etc… That and my wife woke up craving french toast. After seeing their cherry brioche french toast in pictures, we were sold. It’s a real fancy place, for starters. Part of the swanky Newcastle Golf Club, it struck me as the quintessential rich guy club house. Fortunately, the staff’s friendly demeanor quickly quelled any fears of pretentiousness. Simply put, the service is TOP notch. Couple of errors in execution of the orders(forgot the anchovies on the caesar salad and the almond butter on the french toast) but overall professional and friendly. Just a classy experience with an exceptional view. I’d take back out of town relatives but also lie about having a membership there to show how much I’ve made it in life.
