This is a must stop when I am back in Wild, Wonderful visiting my family. My mom and I make at least one trip up the river to see what new goodies they have in store at in the Seconds room. I always leave with at least one new piece! This time I scored two rice bowls, two bistro bowls and two chop plates at excellent prices! The Seconds room is often busy, but take your time and do multiple laps around the room to make sure you know what all they have. Also, bring a microfiber towel so that you can see if that beautiful piece of Fiesta Ware is dirty or damaged. Plus, it keeps you from leaving with dusty fingers. I can’t wait until my return trip home in five months to visit again! Soon enough I’m going to have to build a second kitchen to store all my beautiful Fiesta Ware! WORTHIT!

LOVELOVELOVE! This California girl was visiting in laws in Ohio and it just so happens my father in law’s grandfather worked at the plant. So we made the trip when he found out I was obsessed with Fiestaware. Defiantly a great highlight to the trip! So wish I could have packed more in my suitcase. Darn 50lb weight limit! I grew up using Fiestaware as a kid and when my mother passed she passed it on to me. Since then I’ve never stopped using it and I been adding to my collection!

Be sure to call ahead for the factory tour. It’s right down on the working floor with long time employees who’ve done the work themselves. You will be surprised how many steps the workers perform. Great savings in the seconds outlet, too. Bring a cloth to wipe dust so you can check the finish before buying.

When I saw Fiesta Ware as a child, my mom said I couldn’t have it because it was radioactive and they quit making it. In 1986, I was in Kauffman’s and shouted AHHHHTHEYHAVENEWFIESTAWARE!!! When I grow up, I’m going to have that!!! and i did. And I do! Nearly all of my Fiesta Ware has come straight from the plant and by that I mean, the seconds room at the factory. The tent sales are super annoying but if you take some friends and some cards with you, the line will seem to go a bit quicker. The prices are worth it. Each person has a four milk crate limit per run through the tent sale. You might consider a dolly. On a regular day, the seconds room is still very interesting and a savings over anywhere else that sells Fiesta. You may find pieces in the seconds room that are not often seen at the department stores. Loaf pans for $ 12? yes please. Fruit bowls for $ 3? yes I’ll take six. As others have noted, make sure you take a gardening glove or an old car wash rag with you to wipe the grime off the dishes as you shop. Wiping makes it a lot easier to check for flaws. The factory store also has a first quality room in addition to the seconds room. You won’t find bargains in the first quality room but you can get things like pie pans, halloween themed pieces, Christmas tree pieces, in past years they even had Fiesta painted like watermelons complete with black seeds on a pink plate with a green edge. Do you need a Fiesta drink dispenser? How about a Fiesta dancing lady cookie jar for $ 230? Discontinued Christmas ornaments shaped like mini trivets for $ 1? yes please. Limited Edition bread plates with a religious motif? yep. T shirts? yes. Take a rag, a lot of money, some time, and wear closed toed shoes just in case someone drops a crate of dishes on your foot. Less than an hour from Pittsburgh. Oh. if you’re building a house, soon they will offer Fiesta Ware counter tops made from the broken pieces.

Twice a year, in min-June and the beginning of October, Homer Laughlin hosts a tent sale of the factory seconds. Prices are greatly discounted, 10′ Dinner plates that retail for $ 18 a piece at Kohl’s or Macy’s go for $ 2.20 a piece. Take a rag with you, the dishes are really dirty. Seconds have imperfections; dirt caught in the glaze, scratches, knicks, or the glaze is spotty. Some of the pieces have large imperfections while others are barely noticeable. If you have the patience to sort through the dishes you can get some great pieces. I went the last day of the June tent sale and they were putting up signs for bigger discounts, dinner plates and bowls were marked down to $ 1.25. I ended up with complete service for 8 and a couple serving pieces for $ 60. I waited about 40 minutes in line, if you go the first day expect the lines to be longer. You can find the exact dates of the sales on the Homer Laughlin Facebook page. If you can’t make the tent sale, its still worth the drive. The factory has a retail outlet were you can buy store quality set or seconds. They also have a tendency to find discontinued pieces hanging out in their factory, that they put up for sale at the outlet. As many others have said they also do factory tours, Monday through Friday. You’ll need to call and make reservation and they have two tours a day.

I love Newell, West Virginia! My first visit there was on a Lincoln Highway Association tour, then a few years ago, I was on assignment in West Virginia. I took advantage to to take the tour of the Homer Laughlin plant and I made several visits to the outlet store. I dropped a small fortune there, but it was worth every nickel to acquire a complete service for 12, along with lots of service pieces, of Fiesta. I even have the figurine of the dancing lady, in the same color as my china! The store is not fancy — it’s a factory, after all, but everything Homer Laughlin makes is on display. A second room offers not-quite-perfect factory seconds. Some of them are laughable but others are very serviceable with the flaws nearly impossible to find. If you take the tour, be sure to also take the Newell Bridge over to East Liverpool, Ohio and visit the Ceramics Museum.
East Liverpool and Newell used to be the pottery capital of the world, because the clay along the Ohio River is perfect for making pottery. Today, only Homer Laughlin and Hall China remain, across the river from one another. The ceramics museum is a fascinating place, and the Newell Bridge, a low-price toll bridge, has been a thrill ride since 1905. Homer Laughlin built it so his employees could commute more easily and it is still the best way across the Ohio River! By the way, the word«Ware» doesn’t appear in the name — it’s Fiesta and always has been. It is sometimes referred to as Fiesta Dinnerware, but calling it Fiesta Ware, or Fiestaware, is incorrect. And I really like my Fiesta!

Great selection and good prices. I’ve purchased nearly all my Fiestaware at Kohl’s and when you get it on sale with coupons and such the prices can’t be beat. But they don’t have as extensive a selection as many stores or the factory. The prices at the factory are much better than those at their outlet store in Flatwoods, WV.

If you love Fiestaware, or if you just need some quality dishes at a good price, this is the place to be! These lovely, colorful dishes are made here on the bank of the Ohio River as they have been for 100 years. As the sign over the factory entrance proclaims«Through these portals enter the best potters in the world». Factory tours are available, but the real draw is the outlet store and the«seconds room». In that Nirvana for Fiesta lovers, you can find plates, bowls, cups, serving dishes, etc. in a rainbow of colors. The defects are mostly very minor(light spot or heavy spot in the glaze, «dimple» in the finish) and the prices DIRTCHEAP! So grab yourself a plastic milk crate and start filling it up. The dishes in the seconds room are dusty, and experienced shoppers bring a rag to wipe them and check carefully to find the ones with the tiny-est imperfections. For sightseers and Fiesta fanatics… They have a small garden by the shop door with broken pieces in a flower bed. It’s pretty, but my daughter and I love to detour by the«junk pile» to the north of the factory, in the grassy area by the employee parking lot. There is a HUGE pile of broken pottery in every color imaginable. It is so pretty, and different every time, so we always take a picture!

I was so impressed by the people at Homer Laughlin! The factory tour was incredible. It was 90 degrees and the employees were hard at work. The kiln area is super hot. I was surprise to learn that the china that has stripes on it are hand painted for example. They do such a beautifulbjob and do it really fast. The fact that this is a USA company is wonderful. Their product is exceptional. They have a factory outlet store located at the plant as well as a 2nd quality room where you can buy Fiesta at really low price. It was refreshing to see a company that makes great product and employs US labor! This is the kind of company that contributes to our economy.

If you’re a Fiestaware lover, get yourself into a car and GO! I’m in the Detroit area and it’s a 4 hour drive(one way) but so worth it. The factory has been there forever… imagine, a US company that still manufactures the same product, in the same place for almost 100 years! That alone, keeps me going back. They offer factory tours that are a lot of fun and have a seconds room, where everything is dirt cheap! It’s located right on the Ohio river, near the Ohio border. I’ve gone with different people on several different occasions(the twice-yearly tent sale is outrageously, crazy fun!!) and a great time has been had by all.
