We were looking for a quick bite to eat around the Newell area. It was nearing 12 in the afternoon when we came across Lily’s Café. Checked the reviews out and it had a 4 out of 5. Took a quick look through the pictures on Unilocal and we were intrigued. also very hungry. So we gave it a shot. To my surprise, the food was very good! It was a hole in the wall shared with the bowling alley, but non-the-less delicious and a good experience. If you happen to be around this area, check it out. Sorry I wasn’t able to take any pictures. to busy eating away the deliciousness!

Good food! Prices, very reasonable! Eleasa, our server, really hustles but the food was slow to come from the kitchen! Would come back. Recommend corned beef hash and eggs!

Cute lil’ diner attached to a bowling alley. Lily, the owner, is also a waitress. We were lucky enough to have her serve us. She sings opera as she takes your order. Not joking. She seemed a little impatient when taking the order, and inevitably, got it wrong. It’s okay though because she has character, and so does the restaurant. The food is just average. Nothing special. I ordered the charbroiled chicken breakfast with just 2 hard boiled eggs, a side of fruit and the chicken. I skipped the toast and potatoes it comes with. The eggs were cold when they came out(pre-boiled). I hate it when restaurants do that. I want the eggs fresh and warm. Cold eggs go on salads. My Dad ordered the Denver omelette. He’ll eat anything, so he liked it. He had ordered wheat toast, but she brought an english muffin. This was probably because she was hasty taking our order. Anyhow, it was a fun lil’ put stop on the way to Big Sur. Highly unlikely we’ll be back because we live in LA, but it was a good experience. Pictures below.

I ordered the max(II) which is a short stack, two eggs, two strips of bacon, and hash browns, all for $ 7.95! The meal was more than filling, and while not a taste sensation, it was exactly what I wanted. The ambiance is friendly. This is very much a diner, and the back tables have a lovely view into the bowling alley!

Found a great little gem in a bowling alley! They’re chicken stir fry was amazing but above that was a great and friendly staff! There’s nothing extra special about the place, mom and pop type place with home style cooking!

I don’t know. I’ve been here twice and I have yet to be wowed by this places food. I’ve come for both Lunch and Breakfast and everything just tastes like I’ve had it better somewhere else. Maybe I’m just ordering the wrong things or maybe Lily’s just has mediocre food. Who knows, but I don’t feel the need to come back. Sorry Lily.

I was on way home and called in order of hamburger steak. When I got there it was ready with side order of crinkle cut fries and onion rings. The lady in the front was cutting up fruit and offered me some watermelon which I really appreciated. It typical diner fare but a little pricey for what it is(15 for basically a bun less burger and fries) they do have an awesome assortment of fresh fruit though.

50’s type diner, one waitress, with food runners(owners). The first thing I noticed when my biscuits and gravy arrived was that the biscuits had been ‘toasted’ on the grill, and tasted of stale oil. The gravy was nothing more than a roo that the cook failed to make with ground sausage and the drippings. This was an instant fail. The wifes eggs were luke warm but the hot cakes perfect and hot. The waitress was super great and works the soles of her shoes off. Unfortunately we will not make a repeat performance. Making poor gravy is not an option, and never heat up biscuits on a oily grill top.

Excellent breakfast/lunch spot. The breakfast time is the best. The service is usually quick, and the food outstanding. I love the omelets, while my wife prefers the pancakes, or french toast. We have tried Lilly’s for dinner, and found it competent, but not worth a return visit. The staff is great at all times. Pride of local small business ownership shows in the excellent attitude of all the employees.

Waiter didn’t really know the menu… I asked him what was in a few things and he looked puzzled and answered as if he was guessing. In addition the food took 30 min. I ordered a sandwich everyone got their food before me However I will say this the food was amazing

Nice little café. Food is good and consistent. Staff is very friendly. Pleasantly surprised being attached to a bowling alley. They provided nice touches like complimentary veggie plate and fresh watermelon. My only critique is to tidy up a bit. The condiments were sticky and the counter was cluttered.

We had SUCH a great experience here this morning that I had to leave a review! My husband and I came here with our 7 month old daughter. The staff as well as the patrons — everyone! — was so nice and just doted on our daughter the whole time. The chef was singing beautifully and chatting with us. She helped my husband and I order exactly what we wanted and even brought out a plate of cut up banana and watermelon for our daughter! It was perfect! The food was great and the atmosphere was even better. We’ll definitely be back. :)

Average food! Rude service! One time I ordered eggs that were not cooked properly, and I sent them back. Well, she had the eggs prepared correctly, but charged me for a side of eggs plus the meal I already paid for. When I told her that she is charging me extra for the eggs I sent back, she replied; «There was nothing wrong with those eggs». You see, I was a regular every Friday. And the regulars she always gives free cut up fruit too. Once I sent the eggs back, I was off her list to receive fruit, and every time I went back in there, she made me wait until she served everyone else. Therefore, I stopped going.

Love this place! If your looking for a real breakfast and great service this little café won’t disappoint. FYI, they have the best tuna melt’s in town!

We found this place with the help of Unilocal. It’s a somewhat small place, so expect to have to wait. Even with the outside seating. But it’s worth it. They feature hearty American foods. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. The food was not fancy, but it was good. Not much more to say. If we are in the area we may well come back.

Great breakfast place!!! Very reasonably priced. It’s not fancy, but it’s clean & hospitable. The proprietor is a nice Japanese lady(lily); if you’re lucky you’ll catch her singing opera while she serves the customers.
