Snug or slum? If you are thinking about moving to Newnan, Georgia, one place you do not want to waste your time checking out is The Columns at White Oak. Now, the apartments do have many features, as they are equipped with microwaves, washer and dryer set, refrigerator, gas stove/oven, and garbage disposal, but with the new management, ECI, if one of those appliances breaks down it takes weeks or months to repair or replace. Outside throughout the complex, they have posts with with little doggy bags for people to clean up after their animals, but bags have just been replaced after a year of not having any, and no one uses them. Be wary of where you step. They have 3 swimming pools and 2 gyms. The swimming pool attached to the smaller gym is always locked but people hop the fence. The smaller gym is always locked as well and has barely any equipment. The other 2 swimming pools, one attached to the larger gym in the townhouse section of the complex, and the other just behind the complex leasing office are usually open but they are very dirty. I’m talking film of oil over the water dirty. The larger gym located in the townhouse section isn’t bad, but it specifically says no persons under 18 allowed on the equipment and many young kids run through and«play» on the equipment, distracting or interrupting those members who are working out and eventually ruining the equipment. It’s labeled as a gated community, but the only gates are located at the two entrances of the apartment section for cars only. They are always broken or open, the walkways are always open, and access to the town houses is open. There are many people in the apartment complex at all times using the gym and the pools who do not even live on the property due to the easy access. USPS informed me that they are no longer dropping off packages too big to fit in to personal mailboxes as they feel there is no safe place(including the office) to drop off packages because there have been too many complaints of missing or stolen packages. Many of the apartment buildings have German cockroach infestations. Management has been contacted on several occasions but still have not dealt with the problem. In building 3100 every tenant has complained about the problem and 2 moved out due to the problem. Another infestation is the stray cats. Cat lovers, we all know that too many cats in one place they are not surviving is not humane. These many cats reproduce only to starve to death or die due to injuries obtained fighting over food, jumping in and out of the dumpsters, running through the woods, or hit by cars. Many of the cats are emaciated and sick. The management see children as a problem. In the yard behind the 3100 and 2700 buildings was a old deteriorating wooden play structure until some of the neighborhood children ripped it apart. The complex has torn the rest of it down, but has not replaced it. Children who want to play outside now have nothing to play on and resort to sidewalk chalk on their porches and steps. Management spoke with a few of the tenants with children banning the use of sidewalk chalk. Rent raises substantially if your lease is up and you do not renew it, you have to lock into another contract in which your rent will be raised anyway. I do not recommend this complex as a safe and clean living community. If you have children and pets please choose a more suitable complex.
