The Barber Shop

I try to support local businesses. I had driven by this place several times and considered trying it out for my son and finally decided to today. Big mistake. Especially for a hair cut right before his first day of Pre-​K.
We walked in and there were two women there. One was in the process of checking someone out and I don’t know what the other was doing. We waited until one of them acknowledged or greeted us. I guess «Are you ready or what?» is what is considered a greeting. I should have left then.
We had the misfortune of having Shirley. She stood by her chair and waited for my four year old to climb up. Didn’t greet him or me. Barely made eye contact. «What do you want with his hair?» Another opportunity to leave that I should have taken.
I explained that I wanted his hair short around the sides and back and to shorten the top to be able to spike a faux hawk. Same thing I have told his usual hair stylist with no problems. I got a smirk and a quick «OK».
She put his cape on and started on the back of his hair with the clippers. He flinched because he wasn’t expecting it. From there it went down hill. Yup, he’s four and he will fidget lady. Guess what? He doesn’t fidget with his normal stylist who actually talks to him and treats him like a person.
It’s a good thing smacking her would have put me in jail because by the end of the haircut that’s what I was ready to do.
She was rude and gave him a crappy haircut to boot.
That’s what I get for trying out a local business. I will happily go back to Emily at JCPenney so my son doesn’t look like he was hacked at by a beauty school drop out.
I am pretty sure that by now you can surmise that I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Taylor did a FANTASTIC job with my 9 year old son. For those wondering if she can cut African American hair, the answer is YES! Well done Taylor!

The place to go for a buzz cut. Unfortunately that was not what I asked for. Oh well, it will grow out.

Went there for the first time today and had my hair cut by Ann. She has been cutting hair since 1972. Maybe it’s just me, but a barber must give a great hot-​lather neck shave. Ann delivered! The haircut was excellent as well so I will be back.
