Avocado Cafe

Apparently they are dog friendly. However, they are located on the 2^nd floor inside the gym. The gym does NOT allow dogs anywhere on the premises (according to ACafe guy) which I totally get. So, we can’t walk our dog through, to get to the «dog friendly» café. If you have a larger breed (that can’t be held) I’m assuming you can’t eat there w/​your pooch…

This place is awesome! Great place to grab a nice healthy sandwich. Good environment with big screen hd tvs all over. My favorite sandwich there is the Veggie sandwich, but all of them are amazing!

DELISH! The food is so delicious and the atmosphere is great. It’s nice on the patio with friends or a quick bite to eat and back to the office. I would highly recommend eating here or ordering to go.

The name is Avocado café and they have Avocado in everything. You really can’t go wrong.

Awesome awesome awesome! Just had a great lunch here… roasted turkey sandwich and a peanut butter smoothie. Super friendly staff and delicious food. Totally worth the adventure of navigating through the gym (which is well signed) I will be back for sure!!!

I have regular bouts of insomnia, which sucks but allows me to do random things I normally would not do if I were able to get a full night in. So this particular night, I decided to drive south about 45 mins before sunrise to the beach to take some pictures of the rocks during sunrise. Yes, yes, it sounds all boring and maybe gay but I enjoy doing that kind of stuff. Away from people. That’s the main thing.
Anyhow, by the time it was around 1030am, the sun was fully up and peeking through the clouds so my day was done at the beach. I was hungry and I decided I wanted to go to a place that didn’t have many reviews, that sounded healthy, and that wasn’t too expensive (me being at Newport Beach, I knew things around this area would be pricey).
So I give you…
Avocado Café. Probably one of the best sandwich shops I’ve ever been to. Not exaggerating, no joke. One of the best. I am so glad I chose this place over Chronic Tacos (I know for a fact that place would’ve given me explosive diarrhea). I even dare say this place beats out a lot of the sandwich shops I love and patronize over in the East Coast.
Now, I love avocados so that’s one of the reasons why I decided to check this place out. I mean, lame but if someone named their shop after that, it probably has something to do with what they serve. And yes, basically every single dish comes with a hefty slice of avocado.
I had their recommendation of the Chicken Salad + Avocado sandwich and Berry Sunrise. Now the smoothie was alright. It was a bit too icy for my preference but hey, it was fresh, clean and cold. But I’m here for their sandwiches. The Chicken Salad + Avocado sandwich, hands down, was the best one I’ve ever had. It was full of flavor, with soy bacon bits, alfa alfa sprouts, and gluten free whole wheat bread (extra $ 1) and so much more. It’s just amazing. You must try it. Don’t be shy either. Don’t come all the way here and puss out and eat a Turkey and Avocado sandwich (though that is amazing too) but this sandwich is why you’re here. Just take my word for it. And if you hate it, there’s something wrong with your taste buds and I suggest you going to the doctor’s immediately.
Apparently, the Avocado Café has three locations total (none of which are near my area) one in Newport Beach, one in Irvine and one in Huntington Beach.
The one I went to in Newport Beach was pretty hard to find and really easy to miss. I passed by it at least 4 times. Twice driving and twice walking once I parked. It’s located on the second floor practically within a gym at the location. So find the gym, then follow your nose (for food not old people sweat).
There’s only a single person, unisex bathroom that’s shared with the gym so that could be a huge turn-​off for some. I don’t care as long as it’s not like any of the Carl Jr bathrooms I’ve been to.
Parking is awesome. Tons of space. Since they’re on the second floor, they have an outdoor patio you can sit and eat and look out, which isn’t much of a view but it’s nice nonetheless.

Pleasantly surprised. Like other Unilocalers, I didn’t realize that you had to go into the gym and brace your self for the sweaty aroma of Newport men lifting weights. However, if you get past that the Turkey Avocado sandwich is very tasty.
I ordered the Turkey Avocado– white cheddar, squaw, no mayo with a side of fruit. They use Boar’s Head deli meat and are very generous with the amount of turkey they put in my sandwich – they are also very generous with the fresh avocado. The bread is soft and fluffy and they include sprouts and cucumber in their sandwiches, which added texture and I happen to like a crunch in my sandwich. Overall tasty and filling. My side of fruit contained blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, pineapple and raspberries –sweet and tart.
4 stars for food– I’m a sucker for fresh avocado and quality meats.

I love this place. The service is great. The people are nice. And their acai bowl is to die for! Their turkey sandwich is also good. This is the best acai bowl I’ve ever had. I get it at least twice a week and it is ALWAYS delicious and perfect. I usually call in my order for pick up. I wish they were open Saturdays too.

Best tuna sandwich Ive had in a looong time !!! tuna was so fresh and tasted delicious !!! I definitely recommend this place if you like a nice healthy sandwich or salad !!

I wish there was another location. I dont like to smell sweats before i eat. this café is inside of some kind of gym. Its hard to find– upstairs. Good smoothies and food is a 5stars! Choice of fruits or pasta with sandwich. Fruits are really sweet and fresh!

Delicious! Premium ingredients! Food you can feel good about eating — -all in an environment that can be either tranquil (patio seating) or a great place to get your news/​sports fix (indoor seating). You can tell the ownership put some thought into their menu. I was in there when a few of their food vendors came in and it looked like the relationship between them was good! Always a good sign as I’m also in the restaurant industry. Nice to see. My sandwich was stacked high with excellent quality and sandwich building craftsmanship. Tuna salad can usually be a very messy sandwich but this one held together perfectly and didn’t become a soggy mess. I also had some fresh fruit on the side which was delicious and tasted as fresh as can be. One of the owners Chuy greeted me like I had known him for years — -a very nice touch. After chatting with him for a few minutes it was easy to see the pride he takes in his restaurant. It definitely shows.
Do yourself a favor, take a break from shopping at Fashion Island and seek out this little hidden gem (a way better deal than all the other over-​priced lunch fare options in the vicinity) you won’t be disappointed.

My Friend recommended A-CAFE…Love this place!!! Fresh and amazing. Can’t wait for the Huntington Beach location to open. The service is great and always consistent.

The weird walk-​up and general invisibility from the street is totally made up for by the patio. Listen to a fountain bubble, catch some wind through the palm trees and relax. It was perfect to catch a little sun before heading back to work.
I just had a Caesar salad and yes, it had avocados on it. Seems like most things have avocado on it. It’s the Avocado Café on Avocado Ave. Since I love ‘em, that’s just bonus points. The service was friendly, super quick and they even served me on the patio. Yay, avocados!

Their tuna sandwiches are awesome! I love their fruit cups too. My boss is gluten intolerant and is so appreciative that they serve Udi’s gluten-​free bread.

AMBIANCE: I wish somebody told me that I had to go through a men’s barber shop, up the stairs and then through a fitness center to get to Avocado Café. It was a bit of a journey. But there are friendly people at the barbershop and the fitness center that would be happy to guide you along the right way. The people behind the counter are really nice and informative of all the menu items. The café is quite small and a little run-​down looking, but for a quick lunch it really doesn’t matter. We ate on the small balcony under the sun which was nice.
FOOD: Don’t skip out on the water dispenser they have there. It’s infused with cucumbers, so the water tastes super fresh! I ordered the turkey sandwich (if you’re a bacon lover, you’ll still love their soy bacon bits). It’s MASSIVE. I was able to finish the whole sandwich for lunch, but I was full even until after dinner. They really pile on the avocados and turkey and lettuce and tomatoes and sprouts (I love any café that has sprouts as a standard in their sandwiches)…I added red onions just to add an extra kick (not sure if they charged extra or not for that). My colleagues ordered a half sandwich 2 side orders (side options are salad, soup, fruit, and I think pasta maybe was one option?). They were also very, very full.

This place is AMAZING! The owner recommended the best items on the menu for me and my friend when we got there and it was the healthiest lunch ive had in so long! Its super clean and has a gorgeous patio to sit outside and enjoy your lunch. They also offer catering so if your local business needs a healthy lunch option call Chuey the owner there he ll take care of you. The turkey sandwich and tuna salad was so good, they topped if off with a mango strawberry smoothie that was to die for! I have a local spray tan business in Costa Mesa also and I know I will be sending my assistant there weekly for lunch to go! Thanks so much for the excellent customer service!

Love this place it’s hidden upstairs next to a gym. They have a cute little outside patio I love to sit when it’s beautiful out (which it usually is in southern California) I get the turkey avocado sandwich w chips and I usually split it w my best friend because they r huge! The people that run it are so friendly! And am sitting down 5 minutes when i get my food, so fast! I totally recommend this place. Healthy, bomb food! Perfect lunch place :)

Great health conscious place. Discreetly tucked away inside the posh Newport Beach Athletic Club so look around carefully. Nice outside patio is private n quaint with occasionaly musicians jamming. Worthy of a weekly lunch date. ;)

I used to come here all the time for lunch and even sometimes for breakfast, and the food here is good, all the workers here are really nice and courteous… that being said I decided to give them 1 star (my first one star review). I will explain.
I understand in this economy, there are tough times for everybody. However there has to be a limit and once a restaurant reaches a certain point, it is no longer an economic situation and becomes something that could be deemed as excessive and unnecessary and/​or even greedy. I don’t like to be nickel and dimed.
They used to charge 6.75 for a sandwich + a side (with an option of adding avocado for a dollar something more) which is a great deal in my opinion. The sandwiches used to be stacked high as well. Over time their sandwiches got smaller and smaller, but that didn’t bother me too much.
Now it’s impossible to get a sandwich for 6.75. in fact they added $ 2 on top to make it near $ 9 for a sandwich I guess because they include avocado now. But even if you ask them to exclude the avocado. they still charge you $ 9!!!
Ridiculous. I stopped eating here for lunch.
There are so many places in the area, in and around PCH, fashion island where i can get a GOURMET sandwich for the same price or even cheaper, with more bells and whistles.
On top of all that, today I wanted breakfast, so me and a coworker decided to go over there at 9am, however they recently changed their hours to open at 10am… What kind of breakfast place doesn’t open until 10?
Shorter hours, excessive prices, they have lost my business. It will be hard for them to compete with all the other outstanding deli and sandwich shops in the area unless they change their ways.

UPDATE:
With Time Avocados do become sweeter… I just had a sandwich here yesterday, and since their opening last year the flavor, service and selection has matured to an even MORE tasty side. My stacked turkey bacon sandwich (see photo) was made in 2 minutes and brought right to my favorite seat al fresco. What could be better: Atmosphere and a sandwich big AND tasty enough to barely wrap your mouth and mind around, way to go you yummy friends at Avocado Café!
A fabulous Café in a hidden gem of a Location! Health and Wellness is the name of the game, and Avocado plays accordingly. The owners of Avocado Café recently remodeled the restaurant portion of The Newport Beach Athletic Club, and didn’t hold anything Back! Numerous Big Screen TVs, Local Art, Nostalgic Pictures, Great Seating, Cool Décor/​Paint and my favorite spot the seating Al Fresco on the deck. Come in, soak up Vintage Newport Fitness, and grab a snack! This bright Avocado is Ripe for the picking =D
