Great simple service — no hassles exactly what you would expect on the beach in Newport

My friend and I recently rented bikes here due to their location on the boardwalk. We have rented bikes from other places, so its always nice to compare. We found Boardwalk Sports to be lacking in services and higher in prices. You would think like most places they would ask you if you needed a lock in case you wanted to park the bikes and walk away. This was not the case, and if you wanted a lock and basket for personal items they were an extra cost. We have rented bikes from companies a street or two off the boardwalk and found much better deals.

Newport Bike & Beach Rental was closed when we arrived at the beach this morning so we trekked on down to this spot. They have bikes for rent plus the trailers to pull Hunnie Bunnie in. We’re in. The prices were quite a bit higher than at Newport Bike & Beach Rental but the staff was friendly and the bike worked.

There are so many tourist shops near the pier all selling junk to the beach crowd. But there are none that sell as much of this junk as Boardwalk Sports. If you’re in from Kansas, Iowa or even Riverside for a day or two, you can find anything you need right here. Sure, it’s mostly crap made in China and overpriced at that but it’s all you need for a day or two on the beach. Be it towels, hats, caps, umbrellas, suntan lotion, flip-flops, buckets, sunglasses, visors, t-shirts, bathing suits, to fishing gear(including frozen bait) to cheap beach cruisers, skateboards, skimboards and foam boards, they’ve got it. Sure, the towel may unravel after only a few dries and the t-shirt may rip on the 2nd wearing, it doesn’t matter. You’re here for a few hours to romp in the sand and play in the surf. The only thing you really want to bring home is that gorgeous tan and fond memory. Like an In-N-Out burger, that’s what it’s all about.
