I have come to this store many times and every time I was less than pleased. I waited a good 10 mins to just check out my groceries because the register gets the deli calls and makes the whole store wait for the deli. It was very inefficient and a waste of my time. While I was there I went to the coffee counter to see nothing was cleaned, it was all sticky and disgusting. How is this place still open? Other times that I have been here I always run into problems and ask for the manager who is never there, this store is a joke and I tell you if you need to get groceries or deli meats go to pavilions right down the street. This place is not worth your money or your time.

Hershey’s has always been a Balboa Island staple. However, this place has gone down hill in recent years unfortunately. The market not only used to provide all the same goods as your local supermarket but they used to have a high quality deli. I even used to work back there when I was a kid(I hope the owners don’t read this). The deli used to have boars head meats, fresh local caught fish, steaks, pre made salads, high end cheeses. They also used to have some of the best custom sandwiches ever. Well not anymore. Half their store inventory was taken out and they also downgraded the deli. Nothing seems to be fresh anymore. If you do end up coming here, I would suggest the«wedge» or «endless summer.» The endless summer was my favorite. Ahi, avocado, wasabi, mayo and other scrumptious goodies.

Reviewing the deli: great sandwiches freshly made, nice combinations or design your own option. The sandwich of the day selection is great value. Others are pricier but all made w/Boars Head products so very high quality. Nice staff and personalized service. Can call in your order for pickup plus free delivery on Balboa Island. My favorites are their egg salad, chicken salad and roast beef options. Definitely best sandwich option on the island!

Sorry… No order for you today! As I waited to place my order at the deli I watched the sandwich making guy eating away as he made sandwiches. A morsel would come off a sandwich he was making and then he would pick it up with his gloved hands and touch them all over his mouth as he snacked away. Grossed me out. I just wanted some sandwiches, without saliva hands!

I’m pleased to see they are bringing in more merchandise. The employees are friendly. Great prices on burrito and sandwiches. Good coffee. Slurpees. They deliver on the island!

Had a strange run-in with a dark foreign type guy working the register last night, someone not seen before. In recent weeks I’ve stopped by 1 – 2 weekly for the nice coffee Hersheys offers. On way to a local party, I stopped in, prepaid for a cup of coffee then, went to coffee bar. There was None!.. Each of the many canisters was Empty, only one with lukewarm coffee left and not the blend I wanted. I walked back to the register guy and informed about the coffee situ and asked if more coffee was to be made. This guy curtly gave me my $ 1– back indicating someone else«would be back to make coffee in 10min»… Seconds later, irritated that I had retained my half cup of lukewarm coffee and was sitting down for awhile… Waiting for new coffee… Now calling me a liar about there not being coffee! This self-perpetuating A-hole, then, suggested I leave! I stayed, nobody returned to make new coffee . Who was the liar?! I’ve never been so rudely treated at a deli market biz and don’t care to return when this guy is around. Lookout!

Little corner store in the very posh Balboa Island main strip. Apparently it used to be better stocked, but is now more of a quick stop-in type place where you just grab quick snacks or at best a deli sandwich. We came in for a very casual breakfast of their $ 3 breakfast burritos… a choice of egg and cheese or bacon, egg and cheese. They were modestly sized and simple, but hit the spot anyhow in the morning as a quick and easy breakfast. I found the workers to be pretty friendly thought I’ve read others have not had the same experience. Overall, if I didn’t need a meal, but perhaps a snack or small breakfast, I’d stop in here again if I’m ever at Balboa Island in the future.

Busted by the health department for keeping their back doors open and having too many cockroaches in the food area. April 2014 so my suggestion is do not eat here. Too many flies and too many bugs. Also they people working there could care less.

Balboa Island is a great place to come take a walk around the perimeter of the island with family and/or friends and enjoy this unique Cape Cod-like island. Hershey’s Market is the perfect place to grab a gourmet sandwich while you are there. They have everything from a basic ham and cheese to some creative panini or baguette sandwiches. $ 6-$ 9 price range for the sandwiches. Great selection of beverages and chips too.

The best grocery store in Orange County! They’ve got everything from fresh sandwiches, to all the snacks a person could want on a Saturday night, and on top of all that, the hottest workers! My favorite is that super hot cashier Amy! She’s such a doll, I hope she checks you guys out.

I grew up on Balboa Island over 40 years ago and still have a residence there. What used to be a nice family run corner store with gourmet food, a choice meat market, fresh fruit & vegetables and an extensive liquor and wine selection, is now a «market» with tons of wasted space, a product line skimpier than the local Arco Station and a wine selection worse than Target. To top it off not even a thank you from the cashier on check out! I’ve been to many local markets that are 1⁄3 the size with a much more extensive product line and a much more courteous staff. While I always support local island merchants, I think twice before even buying a box of sugar at this establishment.

This place has got sick sandwiches and salads. I’m not sure why more people don’t mention this but they have daily $ 3.99 sandwich specials, $ 2 breakfast burritos and a cheaper coffee alternative to starbucks, $ 1 for their Peerless Coffee. As a college student on Balboa Island there is nothing better than waking up in the morning, and running over to Hershey’s before class to get a hot cup of Coffee and a burrito as i drive over to school.

Went here today with the family. I work in the city and always drive by here. So I figured we would check out the deli. As we walked in it was very spacious. Large seating area with fountain drinks and coffee stands along the wall. The deli looked fresh and the staff was good. Very pricey and not too bad food. We ordered the Whaler sandwich which was $ 8 just for the small sandwich. We wanted 2 hotdogs but they only had one. Those are $ 2 each and very large. We also got a side of chicken salad for $ 3 and 2 icee’s for $ 2 each. For the whole meal it was $ 18 for less than 2 full meals. Only one cashier and seemed like a small store. The food was good, but highly overpriced for what you get. And some advice to store, keep things in stock… even on a calm weekday.

A little shop with a decent selection of booze — $ 8.99 for a 6 pack was not too bad for an island store. We picked up some local potato chips — thick cut and salted just right along with a few other snacks. Not cheap but not absurdly expensive and the staff was super friendly and welcoming. I loved the open feel too — raised garage doors so you could walk right in.

Eeek me thinks not… because the changes here since the remodel are not for the better. They use to have an outside produce market that was choice! Thats gone and many of us in Balboa now go other places to shop. It is clean but wire shelves tout tourist and have little to offer locals or people who visit for the island type store they use to be. Shop before you get to the island, you will hate yourself for navigating parking and then hiking in to find a spread out liquor store vibe. We will miss the old market– but Farmers Market is near by.

This is the most friendly staff and they make the most amazing deli sandwiches. If you are going on a picnic, boat or any of that. it is the best. I love the customer service. It is a bit pricy but is is an island and worth the extra money because the sandwiches are to die for. yummy

It is shocking that anyone could have a bad experience at this place… it’s a market. yes, it is expensive. but it is an island… balboa island. sandwiches are bomb, everything is high quality, staff is always nice. I guess my advice is… just buy food here. then leave. with your food. good experience.

I was recently hired and fired before I could even say hello. There are 3 owners. 2 out of state, and one«local» from laguna. But he doesnt know whats up at all. He is rude to the employees who treat that place like their own and he is a bad man. The manager Julia and deli manager James know exactly whats up and are super legit. I will do everything in my power to run this place into the ground as they have done to me. My dad owns a law firm. ANDTHEYBREAKLAWSALLLLLLLDAY. Im sueing. Im sorry to Josh Kenny Brett Justin David and everyone else. Hersheys Market will no longer be open soon. They have outused their welcome.

This is a tiny island, and mind you, they roll up the carpets at 9pm… but going in the selection is not so bad. I checked out the wine selection, meats selections, fruits, cards, …and you know. tis not so bad. They even choose to use the INFAMOUSPEERLESSCOFFEE that is right here in our Jack London Square, Oakland. I would say they offer both high end and low end options. I don’t think their prices are jumping off the scale. if you need something, you need something. Right out front there is a neat chalkboard where they list specials or whatnot, and it was kind of un-kept.so they let me create some art on it.
