Being an Orange County native and a resident of Corona Del Mar for 19 years, I try to support the local businesses and boutiques. I was in Just Basics a few weeks ago and had a nice conversation with Debbie, the store owner. There were 2 cute tops she talked me into trying on. I had just worked out and didn’t feel I should try the clothes on and said I would come back after a shower. Debbie said to go ahead and take them and if they didn’t fit I could bring them back. OK, so I did. The 2 tops, totaled $ 350.00(yes, the store is very pricey) ended up not fitting. I brought the items back on their hangers in perfect condition two days later and just wanted a return on my card. As it turns out, they won’t give you your money back, only a store credit. I was not happy as Debbie said I could return them no problem. OK, so I was not happy and was given a store credit and left. I went to the store this last weekend thinking I would use my credit. I found an item and asked to use a portion of my credit. The woman working said she could not let me use my credit if I didn’t have the piece of paper they had written my credit on. I asked if they had record of my credit and she said yes but that I have to prove I have a credit. Again, not once was I told I had to keep a piece of paper to be able to use my credit. Seriously??? With todays technology, you can’t tell me that they do not have proper record keeping! Well, they don’t. Its an old time register and a yellow pad that they record their credits on. I’m sure the IRS loves that! I had my ID, my credit card I originally purchased with and asked the woman to look it up. She said that I would have to speak with the owner and that she could not help me. I just spoke with Debbie, I was very nice and told her about this issue. I have searched my house and did not find the yellow piece of paper and would like to use my credit. She said NO, I have to prove that I have a credit even though their records show I have a credit! Well, I will see her in small claims court. Why support local business owners if they are run like Just Basics??? Its a shame, I have never experienced such an issue with any other botique in CDM or Newport!

One of my top 3 absolute favorite boutiques. An entire wall of Michael Stars — every color & style. Loads of trendy, chic designers so I’ve never been disappointed. Always a sale rack/basket with lots to choose from. They also have a variety of fun accessories including jewelry(Love my gold«K» necklace), lamps, candle holders, candles, etc. Friendly and helpful staff plus a discount for Islanders :) I check in once a week to see what’s new.

This little boutique is nothing short of AWESOME. They always carry the latest trends. Michael Stars fill a whole side of the store, Paige denim, Billy Blues, Velvet, and Free People are among the many designers. They have everything from jewelry, to handbags, to lamps/home décor, candles and soaps, to shoes. I always come here to pick up a few things while I’m home.
