My husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary at Mastro’s…What a dessapointment. I ordered the rack of Lamb… wish I would have taken a picture of it… Small miniature ribs with a lot of fat at a and amazing price of $ 48.00, my husband ordered the steak also $ 48.00, and mediocre as well… The only thing we enjoyed was the service, but there is no way we are going to spend that much money on a dinner at Mastro’s ever again just for the good service… There are too many good restaurants in the area to choose from…

$ 35 corkage and a $ 60– Ribeye… NOTWORTHIT!!! Ridiculous!!! The steak isn’t even that good… There are way too many options in Dana Point, Laguna and Newport to put up with these prices for mediocre food and service. Did I mention $ 35– to uncork my wine!!! I still can’t get over that… Go elsewhere…

Mostly a comparison between C O S T A M E S A vs. N E W P O R T B E A C H. ~ ~ A M B I E N C E ~ ~ newport beach definitely had a nicer ambience than costa mesa. I like all the christmas lights that they put throughout the restaurant. it made it seem less dark compared to CM. there’s even a tree in the middle of the restaurant, to make it more of an outdoor feeling. i also felt that the tables were more spaced out than at the costa mesa location. there’s also a live singing duo inside the restaurant, which added a nice touch to the dining experience. ~ ~ F O O D ~ ~ [ o y s t e r o n t h e h a l f s h e l l ] : they sell these per oyster so you don’t get a discount whether you order 1 or 12. they range between $ 4-$ 5. I think at the costa mesa location, the range from $ 3.50-$ 5. oysters were super fresh, just like tasting the salty sea water. warning: horse radish can be very spicy! you get the wasabi in your nose feeling if you’re not careful. [ b o n e m a r r o w ] : the bone is pretty big! the server will ask you how many you want, and one is more than enough for 2 – 3 people. the marrow was very light and airy and they give you enough bread pieces for you to finish the whole bone. [ l o b s t e r m a s h p o t a t o e s ] : you cannot go wrong with this side dish. if you were to choose anything on the menu, let this be your choice. they use 1.5 pounds of lobster. WHAT?! the lobster comes in huge chunks as well, you even get some claws! if you haven’t tried this yet, do yourself a favor and order it! [ c r e a m o f c o r n ] : this side dish was actually really good! i like corn in general, but there was a sweet taste to it that made me like it even more. i didn’t think that the corn was too creamy, just the right amount of cream to corn ratio. [ c r e a m o f s p i n a c h ] : wanted some greens in the meal so this is what was ordered. it’s pretty good overall. i think i just need a better appreciation for spinach in order to fully enjoy this side dish. [ p o r t e r h o u s e ]: not on the menu! i noticed that the menu at newport was a slightly more limited than at costa mesa(i could be wrong). i remembered that there was a porterhouse at the costa mesa location so i wanted to try it this time when i went to the newport location, but it wasn’t on the menu. also, i know there’s wagyu beef at the costa mesa location as well, but the server didn’t introduce that to us, so maybe they don’t have that either? [ r i b e y e 24 o z $ 60 ] : enough to split between two, possibly three people! i like that the meat was on the bigger side because you don’t want to pay for a filet that’s super small anyway. super juicy, super tender, just a perfect piece of meat for your main entrée. ~ ~ S E R V I C E ~ ~ the server took awhile to come around to our table. i think he was busy the whole night and just left us alone. it’s okay though. there were a lot of people the night that we went so i guess we can’t blame him. *** they have a nice waterfall thing in front of the restaurant if you wanna take pictures to remember the special occasion ***

I’ve been to Mastros Costa Mesa and Las Vegas and each time it was a superb experience. Went to Newport Bch last night to celebrate Vday. The food was pretty good I had lobster bisque(yummy), lobster potatoes(yummmmy), sea bass(ehhh, should have gotten lobster but they were out smh) and drum roll and trumpets for the BUTTERCAKE(yum to the 10th pwr). What super sucked was my service. She NEVER once asked how our meal was or even replenished our water until I was dying of thirst towards the end of the night and had to stop her to request a glass. If I was at Applebee’s I’d shoulder shrug and move on, but this is MASTRO’S!!! I’m a working professional, so when paying a minimum $ 250 for dinner it’s not just the food but the overall experience that counts! Save yourself the road toll and go to Costa Mesa! :)

Yes, it’s in Newport. And YES it’s A Mastro’s. But my experience was not 5 star. Maybe I’m being picky because it’s a highly rated chain restaurant and lots of people have spoken highly of it to me. But I was not«5 star» impressed. I personally, do not like to be greeted by five hostesses.(Especially when it’s obvious that 3⁄5 are doing nothing.) It’s intimidating enough to walk into a busy, fancy, unfamiliar restaurant let alone getting treated like you are not a priority at the hostess stand by 5 teenagers. Terrible first impression. The restaurant was PACKED. As in, fighting your way to the bar, to your table, to the hostess stand. I do not blame the restaurant for this, however, I think that the building, particularly the waiting area is not built for this level of traffic. Especially with every other couple trying to take a photo by the Mastro’s Ocean Club fountain sign, located in the waiting area. A few of the bartenders had a too busy and too good for you attitude, which no one appreciates. There were a few who were wonderful and eager to make you a fantastic drink. Once we were seated, the food, service, and night was great. Once again though, food was good but not AMAZING. The only thing I had that absolutely blew me away was the Butter Cake. Holy moly. That was life changing. Overall, overpriced, but good. Maybe a different Mastro’s is a better experience? I just believe that there are better places in Newport, without the name and reputation that won’t cost you a pretty penny.

Mastro’s has become my favorite steakhouse. They have several locations around the US. This one is right in the Crystal Cove area in a very nice strip mall(and close to some other great restaurants too). It The ambiance here is usually pretty lively and fun. If you don’t have a reservation, you may want to try and find a table in the bar area. Best thing to do is make a reservation. Don’t feel like you need to get all dressed up to eat here. Be yourself. However, you might feel a little undressed if you show up in a t shirt and shorts. My favorite cut of meat here is the 12oz filet. I get pretty full off of bread and salad, so I usually split it with someone. They’ll do it for you if you just indicate that to the waiter. Try the wedge salad before your steak, it’s amazing! The table bread is also complimentary and very good — the pretzel bread is my favorite. You can’t go wrong with any of the desserts, although try the butter cake. It’s pretty amazing and they’re known for it.

Five star service. I came here for my birthday dinner with my friend and we left happily with a full tummy. I had a reservation at 6 and was seated right away when I arrived. My server came by and offered us the menu and water. He was very attentive and checked on us every now and then to see if we needed anything. For appetizers, we decided on fried calamari. It was crispy and tasted so good! The Mastro’s steak was known so I got that as my entrée: 22 oz bone in rib eye; it was a bit big so I had to make that my lunch the next day. My friend got their Chilean seabass and it was good since I took a bite of it too. The fish was not too cooked and cooked just right with flavors. We got two sides: Brussels sprouts and sweet potato fries. They were both great! We had their signature cake, warm butter cake as desserts. The cake was moist and creamy with the ice cream. Highly recommend. :)

There are 3 things that draw me back to Mastros every time… 1. Vanilla battered lobster 2.lobster mashed potatoes 3. Butter cake Worth every penny, and paired with spectacular service you will never be disappointed. Always make a reservation and prepare to wait even with a reservation.

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday recently. We got there a bit early for our reservation, ended having to wait to be seated a little after our reservation time. We didn’t mind since we were given champagne for waiting! I ordered the New York strip and my bf had the bone in ribeye. Both were cooked perfectly! My mouth is watery just thinking about that first bite! The sides can feed up to 4 people, so thankfully our server told us we can actually do HALF portions for a lesser price. We ordered the creamy spinach, garlic mashed potatoes AND the Mac and cheese(it was to die for). We had the butter cake, I wasn’t such a fan but as I had it the next day as leftover. AMAZING. I loved the soggy part, reminds me of tres leches! Our server actually comped the cake on our check. Overalls: amazing and we definitely will be coming back!

Mastro’s is hilariously bad. I am not sure how people justify such a spendy experience when everything is so subpar. I suppose the wealthy, wasted cougar watching is worth one star, but the overcooked filets that were not edible cemented this place as one of OCs worst in my book. The three jumbo shrimp were delicious as they should have been for such an exorbitant price. The butter cake tastes like some three day old crap from the grocery store deli. Wipe your a$$ with $ 200 and skip this place. You’ll be better off.

So, it pains me a bit to give this place 3 stars. I expected a lot more from a Mastro’s. As another disclaimer, I did not come here for regular dinner service. I came here for a lunch reception for a close friend of mine. As always, I expect service at lunch and dinner at any establishment to be top notch when it has a reputation like Mastro’s. The restaurant is quite nice, staff is friendly and on a clear day, you’d get a fantastic view of the ocean across the stretch of PCH it’s on. We opened with a seafood tower. Everything was delicious — lobster, oysters and shrimp. The shrimp was meaty and quite delicious and probably the best item in the tower. I’d order the shrimp alone. Next came bread, which was run of the mill. Nothing fancy. Following this was the main entrees. Sides family side — creamed corn, garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus and snow peas. I ordered the lamb, cooked medium. Frankly, it was far too buttered /oily for my tastes. While I understand lamb is quite a rich protein, it was just too rich for my tastebuds. I had a bit of the ribeye and that was fantastic — so perhaps I should have stuck to that. Sides were good, but nothing to ring home about. For dessert, many of us ordered the warm butter cake, which everyone raves about. The waitress even told us that it was«game changing.» Well, they served it cold. It wasn’t that great. Overall, I’m not sure I’d be compelled to come back if my experience at the reception was so mediocre. I’ve been to other Mastro’s and I would have to say this is my most disappointing experience so far.

Mastro’s Ocean Club is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in SoCal and possibly Top 20 in the world. Every time I go there, the 5 star food, service and ambiance is impeccable. We usually order a Caesar Salad which is always just right. Then a Seafood Tower that is customized to our liking(king crab legs, cocktail shrimp, Dungeness crab, etc) with the dry ice blowing smoke and decorated with flavorful caper berries. Then a wonderful 22 oz ribeye that is meat heaven. The meat being accompanied by a wide variety of yummy side dishes liked creamed corn or sautéed mushrooms or spinach. Then a wonderful dessert either the warm butter cake or this time we tried the cheesecake and it was executed superbly. The restaurant is in the Crystal Cove shopping center so there’s plenty of parking and things to do before or after dinner. Can’t wait to go back!

Mastros Ocean Club! Need I say more? This place has the BEST steak, seafood, and dessert! I don’t think there’s anything that I’ve tried here and not like! Drinks are also delicious and strong! My favorites: filet mignon, bone in ribeye, Chilean sea bass My favorite side dishes: lobster mashed potatoes, cream corn, Brussels sprout, mushroom, cream spinach(I think that’s all the sides available! Lol!) Must try: butter cake! Get it! Trust me, you won’t regret it… well maybe when you can’t button your pants the next day, but still… get it! Service: exquisite! Our server Mike was so personable with an uplifting personality! He knows his menu too! The supporting staff were also helpful and friendly! Atmosphere: fun and loud! Live music is pretty up beat and fun! Can’t go wrong when you come for any sort of celebrations!

I mean it’s Maestros, what is there really to say? This is definitely the tastiest and best steak house in OC. The Newport location has great ambience, better than the Costa Mesa location in my opinion. I think it’s because there’s honestly less young children at this location, which to be totally candid is a relief when you’re paying $ 6 – 700 for dinner for a family. Drinks are strong and fun and the steak is tasty and juicy. DO get: — the petit filet, or any other steak really — vinegar shoestring fries — shrimp cocktail to start. They’re as big as your head. AMAZING. — brussels sprouts side. Perfectly cooked! Do NOT get: — lobster mashed potatoes. They’re literally just regular mashed potatoes swimming in a pool of butter with lobster chunks. What a waste of lobster — green beans. SUPER soggy and oily Service was pretty good, not spectacular. I think this is what makes Maestros not a favorite for me, I’ve always found the service to be lukewarm. But maybe it’s just me? Regardless, always a dependably good dining experience and totally recommended if you’re craving steak.

5 stars I love this place! My boyfriend took me out for my birthday dinner on a Friday evening. The ambience is nice and staff was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the 12oz filet minion, sautéed sea scallops, lobster mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, cocktail shrimp, steamed asparagus and my free butter cake with ice cream. They have the best steaks I have ever tasted! Better than Ruth Chris and Flemings steak house. Everything that we ordered was mouth watering and made to perfection. Well worth every penny! We will be back for more. Thank you Mastros for making my birthday dinner special :) Quality A+ 5 stars Good customer service Clean location and bathroom Friendly and attentive staff Food is SUPERB!

Mastro’s executes service and presentation extremely well. But as for the food, it’s nothing special for the high price tag. I consider Mastro’s to be an experience restaurant — you pay for an experience. I dined with a group of 8 and the total bill averaged out to approx $ 200/person including appetizers, a main course, and drinks. As a group, we ordered the seafood tower which included oysters, lobster tails, crab claws, crab legs, and shrimp($ 500 — $ 800 range for this tower, if I remember correctly). The two-foot tall seafood tower arrives served on a bed of steaming dry ice — super extravagant. You’ll have to see for yourself in person. For my main course, I ordered a 12 oz filet mignon medium rare along with creamed corn, asparagus, mushrooms and spinach. The filet doesn’t have a distinct taste. Just tastes like a plain steak. The creamed corn was delicious, though. Our group ended the dinner with Mastro’s famous warm butter cake. A fluffy and sweet cake to finish it all off.

Enjoyed a beautiful sunset view here while dining. This wonderful restaurant is located in the Crystal Cove Promenade on the south side near Trader Joe’s. After savoring some of their delicious pretzel bread and garlic bread with a glass of red wine, I ordered a wedge salad, a 22 oz. bone-in ribeye steak(medium rare) and both mushrooms and sautéed spinach for sides(the menu is ala carte). The salad was superb. The lettuce wedge was so fresh and crisp it seemed as if it had just been handed from the field to the kitchen a moment ago. Topped with blue cheese crumbles, tomato and bacon it was delicious. The steak had a good flavor and tasted like it was cooked properly(it was too dark in the restaurant to see the coloring!) but it unexpectedly had a couple pieces of gristle which I found annoying as I didn’t realize it until the pieces were already in my mouth. Was it the best steak I’ve ever had? No. But it was still excellent, a solid 4 on the Unilocal scale. My advice if you come here is to opt for seafood; after all this is Mastro’s OCEAN Club location. Chocolate cake with a mountain of whipped cream on the side made for an incredible dessert that befriended my love handles. Service was top tier not only by our waiter but even more so by the superb support staff. Note that the restrooms have attendants so bring tip money if you so desire. Aside from the view I have to admit that I still prefer their Costa Mesa location. 4.5 rounded up!

Mastros is definitely a special place to dine for a memorable 5 star meal and service. This is the perfect place to dine with that special someone overlooking an ocean view or to dine with friends/family as a group. Either way, every dining experience I have had here has been over the top spectacular! You cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Just depends on your palate mood at time of visit. My favorites have been: Appetizers: Calamari Seafood tower Entrees: Ribeye Chilean sea bass Hawaiian tuna Lobster Sides: Mac n cheese Lobster mash potatoes Twice baked potatoes Creamed corn Dessert: Butter cake! All the way! Cocktail: Dream berry! Amazing service, ambiance, food& cocktail: 5 stars all the way!

Having been to Mastro’s BH, I had high expectations of this Mastro’s. I booked a reservation on Friday afternoon for a party of 2. I was hoping to have the reservation for 9:15 but the employee said they have only the 10:15 available which was fine. She asked me if it was for a special occasion which I answered yes it is for an anniversary. When we got to the restaurant, the restaurant was not that busy. There were plenty of tables available to be seated. Our waitress came and got our drink order w/o asking if we were celebrating any occasions or anything. For the appetizer, we ordered the Mambo salad. It was tasty. They also brought us a basket of bread which was very delicious. As for the main course, I ordered the Swordfish and my husband ordered the tuna with a side of brussel sprouts. I really liked my fish except it was a bit too dry. So I asked if they have any sauces for the fish. The waitress brought a caper based sauce which was perfect with my fish dish. I would have liked it, if I had know about the sauce option when I was ordering my food. I honestly was not happy with the service. It could have been much better considering that it was Mastro’s. I have to just mention that, the live music(Chris and Frances) band were truly artists… They were the ones who made our dining experience enjoyable not our waitress!

Steak, Seafood and Ocean Views! One of Orange County’s most consistent restaurants for quality seafood and meat, this Mastro’s Location throws in an awesome view of the Pacific Ocean. Steak and Seafood– 4 Stars The meat, like the Costa Mesa and Beverly Hills locations is top notch. It’s difficult to find a better slab of meat in the area regardless of the cut. On my last visit here for father’s day, the swordfish I had was extremely dry and did not have much flavor. It was likely over cooked. The thick cut of seafood was overcooked. Steak is still my preference at this location. Service-5 Stars Service was great. I’d have to say it still in the 5 star range EXCEPT for the grumpy hostess at the front and one server. Overall, I am a fan of this location but do prefer the Costa Mesa location. It could be my last visit was just an off day. Keep in mind, this review primarily focuses on that one visit. I am a fan.
