Pearson’s Port

As a kid, my parents used to take me here for fresh seafood picks. Back then I didn’t realize what a hidden gem this place is. As I got older and discovered a true love for fresh seafood and more importantly sushi, this place became a favorite place to visit for seafood. I love the fresh cuts of tuna here. They also have other It’s heavenly for sashimi lovers. I also recommend the live prawns here. I typically go to Asian markets for them but the quality here is so much better and it’s worth the trip out to Newport. The girls who helped me are extremely pleasant and knowledgable when it comes to handling the fish (which fish to eat raw vs seared, how to cut, removing any bones, etc). If you’re a seafood lover and looking for quality to bring home to enjoy, this is the place.

The best fresh seafood market in the OC. Prices are low and the quality is high and super fresh. Opah is now my favorite fish. I blackened it and it is a wonderful firm fish. Just about under the bridge on a little dock,

The best place to buy live spot prawns! Low prices and the spot prawns are huggggeeee! Come early because they sell quick!
They also sell other seafood, but the spot prawns are the best deal.

Just came here for the first time over the weekend. Let me tell you, this little joint gets busy!!! They have everything, best of all it smells fresh!!! Not fishy, not old but truly fresh! I specifically went there to get some red snapper, and by the time I left I walked out with some prawn shrimp and some scallops. All three items had perfect texture and all the signs of freshness. They scale and clean out the fish at your request, properly bag everything and throw in some ice, by the time I got home 25 minutes later. All three items were still perfect!
Will definitely be coming back for some halibut and tuna! Thank you everyone at Pearson’s for the outstanding service!

I absolutely love coming here! They always have the best and freshest fish and even take the time to tell you exactly how to prepare so it blows your mind. It’s worth the price, I have never gotten better fish anywhere. The people who own this place are unbelievably nice!

I have to give love to my favorite fish shack in the OC, Pearson’s Port. When I lived on the peninsula in the 1990’s, this was my go to place for local fish, shrimp and spiny lobster. I trekked down there from the IE yesterday to pick up some V Day goodies. Here is what went down.
Haley and Karley, the owner’s daughters, were watching the shop. I was greeted with a friendly «hello!» from Haley and asked what I wanted to get. I told her that I wanted to get some sashimi for V Day and was directed to some wonderful yellowfin tuna, salmon, opah and sea bass. I grabbed half pounds of the first three, but was a little wary of the sea bass. Haley assured me that it was wonderful and threw in a piece on the house in order to prove it to me. Who does that? Well, the women of Pearson’s Port, that’s who. And boy, did she prove it to me. The fish was melt-​in-​your-​mouth goodness and made me and the BG happy.
If you are down in the OC — perhaps checking out Balboa or the peninsula or shopping at FI — I cannot recommend enough that you drop in to Pearson’s Port for the freshest fish you can get. I am still swooning from my sashimi as I write this…

This seafood is the BEST! Fresh everyday! My husband is addicted to the ahi tuna! Terese and daughters are terrific! We go there at least 3 – 4 times a week for our seafood!

Favorite spot to grab some fresh seafood and live crabs. You can tell how fresh the seafood is; it may be pricey for the seafood but you get what you pay for. The people are very knowledgeable with the kind of flavor you are looking for. I plan on coming here as my favorite seafood place to shop.

The Best Place Ever!!! We love shopping for our dinner here. How blessed are we to have the luxury to come to you for the best seafood available! Truly the best spot in the OC. And the shrimp! To die for! Really we love it all, but we wouldn’t get our shrimp anywhere else! Thank you for all you do!

Whenever I really need to eat great seafood, I come here from AZ just for seafood.
And I don’t usually buy seafood in AZ at all (not even at Whold Foods) because they are not good in desert.
That should tell you something!!!

The best place to get lobsters. Plus variety of fish. I tried their tuna for ceviche, I can taste how fresh they are. I always come here once or twice a week to get lobster. I love this place!

Places like these are a dying breed… family restaurant… started a while ago and through hard work, built a really good business.
I try and stop in as much as I can. I usually just go in with an open mind and trust the experts on what I’ll eat for dinner. They usually have a few fresh fish (salmon, tuna, opah, etc) as well as shellfish, shrimp, and sometimes lobster if in season.
I’ve tried the following:
Scallops — they are just buttery good. You can eat them raw. I slice them thin on top of a lemon slice. Amazing.
Shrimp — I go for the shrimp with shells on and I can’t tell you how much they increase the quality of a shrimp burrito, fajita, etc. They are awesome.
Tuna Steak — This is where it really takes the cake! Just absolutely fresh tuna that is melt-​in-​your-​mouth good. Make sushi, or wontons or just eat it with a bit of ponzu. You cannot go wrong.
The staff here are awesome… seems like the daughters of the owner or something, but they know their stuff, and can steer you in the right direction if you’re lost. I even pick their brain on recipes and preferred cooking techniques.
Awesome place and a truly unique California experience (it’s right on a dock).

This is such an awesome place to get fresh, delicious, unfarmed, wild caught fish !!!
My Coworker introduced me to this place a while back. A lot of the fish that they sell is still alive so it can be intimidating but the taste of it all after everything is cooked is worth it. My favorite is their sweet shrimp. I came here and got a 1 pound of sweet shrimp with half a pound of Mexican shrimp and the best part was my total was less than $ 25 !!! The girl that works here is super helpful and she will tell you exactly how to cook the kind of fish you buy incase you are not sure. They are all super helpful and eager to explain how different each type of fish is. The only thing I have yet to do is cook an entire lobster by myself. I am super intimidated but at the same time I am always up to a challenge. Can’t wait for lobster season to start !!! If you have any doubts about this place, forget them !!! This place is a must visit for those who love to cook fresh delicious sea food in their homes.

My favorite place for fresh fish and especially the sweet shrimp when they’re in season! Easy access and super friendly service with a smile. I’ve been a customer for years and highly recommend to my friends and family.

OMG everything they have here is very fresh!!!
I was there for kayaking with friends and noticed lot of customers were going in and coming out with a bag or two in their hands.
Made me curious and decided to go in to see what they have.
Ended up walking out with fresh shrimp, crabs, and clams. The clams were huge and raw shrimp was delicious and sweet like sugar.
Smothered my scallops in garlic butter and melted in my mouth.
Wished they were closer to where I am. I would totally go here for my seafood. What they carry varies by what they catch and was told by the owner that they go out daily and sells fresh things to customers.
Owner was nice enough to pack us extra bag of ice as I told her I had a far drive and triple layered my bag as well.
Every time I am near Newport Beach I am definitely stopping by here for some fresh scallops.

Love this place! I think we’ve been coming here for 4 years? We make it once to twice a year which is sad but we live in Arizona so we do what we can. Buying here is the highlight of every beach vacation!
Fresh fish in the morning, in salad in the afternoon & grilled in the evening!
Everyone there is knowledgeable, efficient, and kind. They are the hidden gem of this cramped, busy, beach town.
One day… they were closed. I don’t know why, I can’t remember. So, we thought, «that’s okay, we’ll just walk to Bear Flag…» NO! BAD IDEA! Overpriced & just not fresh enough. UGH! Next time, if Pearson’s is closed… we’ll WAIT. It’s really the only way.

The girls were most helpful and knowledgeable. A bit hard to find but worth it! Shrimp, scallops and Opah was recommended for our kabobs. Love it love it love it! Worth a trip (even from Phoenix).
With a wide variety of fresh catch and more «on the way» this 3^rd generation has been doing things right over 40 years.

This place is the best place in Orange County for fresh fish. The fish you get has been caught the same day you buy it. It doesn’t get any fresher than that. I brought some tuna from them to make seared tuna and it was great. Not fishy at all.
I found this place on July 4^th when they cook fish taco’s out front very good sea bass. I can’t wait to go back and buy more fish from them.
