a bit of history for Newport Beach — one of a kind — never like a chain — huge portions but God forbid you send something back

Loved this place. Walls covered in pictures, dark and dimly lit, eating at picnic tables, and old 70’s glass chandeliers above the bar. Loved watching new people ask for salt and pepper — «oh it’s dinner and a show». And don’t forget the 20 page wine list. Steaks were perfect every time. I was very sad when he closed it.

Many years have gone by since Sid died in exile in Vegas and since this wonderful place closed. One reviewer gave it one star because they couldn’t find it. That gave me a laugh since Sid refused to tell people on the phone the address. If you didn’t know where it was Sid thought you didn’t belong there. Rest in peace, Sid. You were one of a kind.

As Good As It Gets! I can never find a steak as good as this place. The caramelized carrots are sooo yummy. The atmosphere and memories from here will be treasured. A Legend at the least!

Ok, I hadn’t been to Sid’s in probably 10 years, but this place had amazing steaks! Great hole in the wall atmosphere too. I heard it closed down several years ago because the govt shut it down, but also heard he was going to re-open it sometime, somewhere. I’ve been looking for it since, but now that Sid is no longer with us the search is unfortunately over. He and his food will be missed!

The best food in Orange County. The Backened Cajun Chicken was the best I ever had. Don’t ask for extra napkins, Sid won’t allow it. Wish the recipes lived on. The hours of waiting and the dark«whole in the wall» will be missed

RIP Sid Soffer. I loved this place. Hole in the wall, dark as hell, no signs outside. No salt and no pepper, I could live with. The cooks did the steaks up nicely. No ice in the drinks. Now that was a travesty. Guess I will have to get my fix at the Blue Beet.

So Long SIDs, The true hole in a wall with great steaks. As the motto on the door goes, «stop looking for it, you found it.» Unfortunately, it’s no longer there.

Sid’s was one of the true five star establishments. Primo for food, vibe, atmosphere, music and fun. Remember the $ 2 bills and $ 1 coins(if I remember it correctly)? There will never be a place like it again. P. S. And what gives with the lame random 1-star ratings people give out for nondescript or bogus reasons? It’s closed as per Eric’s review.

Where is this place? We drove past the place where it should be like 4 times and we couldn’t find it. So confused.

The first time I was taken here, I couldn’t believe it was a restaurant. Hole in the wall for sure. The food was amazing. Steak and mashed potatoes. So juicy, tender! Really awesome vibe there.

I wish Sid’s was still around! The best drinks around… and the steaks… amazing. I remember the first time I cut into a Sid’s steak I had to stop and check my knife… it cut like butter into that tender filet. Carmelized carrots, mashed potatoes with garlic… glorious. Sid died in Vegas last week… RIP Sid.
