From my very first call from Vanessa (I think) to set up my first appointment, to checking in, meeting Dr. Thompson and having all my questions answered and concerns addressed, this has been an absolutely stellar experience. Dr. Thompson and the entire staff seems to genuinely care about what they are doing. I felt like a person again instead of just another patient.

Extremely professional and really cares about the patients. I have been passed from dr to dr and this time i found a dr who really does care, and wants to get to the root of the issue.

I am so happy to have found Dr Thompson he is a very good Dr. and always is very patient with me and takes his time to listen to all my concerns, I truley recomend Dr Thompson to anyone you will not be dissapointed I know there is mix reviews about the Dr. but honestly I have nothing but good experiances evertime I go to his office, His staff is nice and respectful it might seem like there not paying attention but its beacuse there very busy but will always stop to answer questions and help you out… I am very happy to have Dr. Thompson as my Dr. it has been over a year now and I am totally happy, Gracias Dr. for always having time and patients for me…

were reluctant to take me on as one of their patients, due to the complexity and severity of my illness .

I am deeply grateful to have found Dr. Thompson. He is friendly, kind and deeply caring which is also reflected in his office staff. It’s obvious he truly cares about his patients. I’ve seen him twice now and would go back to him anytime I had a medical issue or question if I could. Seeing any doctor is nerve wrecking but Dr. Thompson really tries to make you feel as comfortable as possible so you can ask what you need to. He wasn’t discriminatory, quick to judge or make snap judgments with is sadly rare among doctors nowadays. I would definitely recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone.

When you need an infectious disease doctor in orange county, Dr. Thompson is who I would recommend. I’ve personally worked with him for a few years now and his level of knowledge always amazes me.
His patients love him. He is very kind and has fantastic bedside manners. You know you are in great hands when he is on your team.

Dr. Thompson is amazing, no nonsense, and very personable. I met him in the hospital as a infectious disease Dr. and he provided me first-​rate care. First timer and it was a good experience. I waited about 15−20min but only because I was a new patient and had to fill out paperwork. The front desk staff was friendly, the nurse was friendly and the doctor was very friendly, professional, and helpful. Once I was seen Dr. Thompson made me feel comfortable, examined me and prescribed me medicine. I didn’t wait long to see him and once he saw me I didn’t feel rushed by him. Highly recommend

Dr. Thompson is a God send! 4 years ago I was told I had high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, sadly it runs in my family. I have been seeing a Dr for my situation for the 4 years, I needed a new DR and I was referred to Dr Thompson by a friend. DR T ran blood work and figured out I was on the wrong meds for my blood pressure so he adjusted my medication and now I feel so amazing. He is extremely caring and super friendly, I was impressed by the organizations he supports and the level of passion he has for his practice and science.

Heed the warnings of others. Patient for well over a year with a serious and life threatening condition that requires constant maintenance. Dr. Thompson at first appears friendly and empathetic but if he cannot profit easily from your illness he will pawn you off onto someone else quickly. When he had an infusion center in his office it was a much better place. He now has new staff which is horrendously offensive. Refuses to take on new appointment from existing patients that are not profitable. And beyond that the claims other have made about multiple malpractice lawsuits are absolutely correct. A simple background check reveals that and likely settlements in two of the three cases. The third is still ongoing with a jury trial set for 2015.
If you value your health please consider another physician. I wouldn’t even let him treat me in the ER at this point.

I had been very patient and gave him a considerable amount of time, but this doctor was a complete nightmare. After our second appointment, he literally turned his back on trying to help me. I was originally referred by an ENT to him as an Infectious Disease Specialist because she couldn’t figure out what was wrong. The 5-​star reviews on here are all for primary care physician visits, none of them (besides mine and the first-​reviewer) are posted for infectious disease treatment.
*During our first appointment, I told him that I needed to see him because the previous doctors could not find what’s wrong with me. He talked me up and said he likes a challenge, won’t give up, that he would help me however he could, etc. Nothing could be farther from the truth, he knew after our second appointment that he didn’t know what he was doing and just figured I would go away.
*He bilked my family out of $ 400 to see me for a grand total of 20 minutes over the course of two appointments. Did nothing other than take a culture swab, draw blood, and prescribe medication based on his guesswork that only caused more harm in the end.
*During my second appointment: He told me «they» lost my culture swab and the thought didn’t occur to him to tell me about it until I came in for my next $ 100 appointment and instead said he was «talking to the powers that be» as to what happened to it. Right. He took another culture swab but said he «wasnt expecting anything to show». In ALL my years, I’ve never had anyone just lose something like that. Other than reading my bloodwork results, he did nothing for me after a highly-​anticipated week. Why should anybody have to pay $ 100 just to hear results that didnt even come in? After this, he became increasingly elusive and wouldn’t return my calls or follow-​up on doing the things he said he would do.
*When he lost my culture swab, I did his job for him and tracked down the lab that has my biopsy (from a different doctor.) and called Thompson’s staff to have them request a redo — which his receptionist followed up on. He had the notes/​record from my ENT but he didn’t care to look for a Plan B… Imagine that, right?
*During our second appointment, I told him the medication stopped working and the condition appears to be getting worse. He said not to worry about it and just come back in two weeks. When my infection got worse no more than 24 hours later, I spent most of friday and all of saturday sitting by the phone, in pain, bleeding, with the hope that he would return my repeated calls. Two days later and several messages to his emergency line and he never did. During this time, I offered to come down and give another sample for a culture swab, but the staff insisted it was not necessary and that I would have to pay for it.
*Last I heard message-​wise was relayed to me through staff: That I would be prescribed something better. But it never happened, I even called my pharmacy to see if anything had come through.
*The medication he prescribed worked for almost a week, then stopped and instead gave some nasty side-​effects and my condition returned. I left several increasingly worried messages over the course of two days, all of which went unresponded to.
*During the time of side-​effects and my condition returning, I was admitted to the ER due to extreme lethargy and muscle weakness and had bloodwork done.
*When he prescribed my original medication, it was very expensive ($ 200+). I called to request the cheaper version ($ 30) and he never did. He eventually called back (and this is the only time he returned my calls) after I already picked up the expensive version and paid for it. He just fed me some excuse and asked when I was coming in next.
*My second appointment was written on the card to be two hours off. No idea why, but it’s a good thing I came in early.
*There are a few cases involving Medical Malpractice on
with him named as a defendant (#30−2013−694 687) (#30−2010−382 876) (#30−2013−634 510), one of them is still ongoing.
*In the grand scheme of things, he isn’t qualified to be an Infectious Disease Specialist because he isn’t certified by the American Board Of Internal Medicine (All ID Specialists are supposed to have certs in ID and IM to establish quality of uniformity.)
*Despite what you’ve heard, his medical license reveals he went to «Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara». And to quote from an article, «But, sometimes, the people who wind up paying the highest price for a Guadalajara medical education are the graduates’ future patients. That’s because graduates of Guadalajara are up to nine times more likely than doctors from the best schools to face disciplinary action from state medical boards and federal regulators in the United States.»

Hands down the best I/​D doctor in OC and by far the best doctor I’ve ever been to. Caring, thoughtful, attentive, and as intelligent as they come. There’s really nothing else to say, if you want the best go see this guy.

Dr. Thompson is the very first Primary Care Physician that I actually trust He seems to be genuinely concerned for my well being, and makes visiting the doctor (which most people, including myself, typically hate) a pleasant and comfortable experience. And as a gay male, I am sensitive about certain issues and health concerns, Most doctors in the past have made me uncomfortable discussing and treating these issues, but Dr Thompson creates a non judgmental, supportive feel for his patients. I ABSOLUTELY recommend his practice to anyone.

Dr. Thompson is the best! I am so glad I found him and was able to get him as my primary physician. The staff is so friendly and nice and very welcoming. Dr. T is so thorough and detail oriented in his explanations. His bedside manor is that of being extremely patient/​calm/​trusting/​capable/​warm/​personable. He makes you feel very relaxed and comforted and makes you feel he cares about your overall well being physically/​emotionally/​mentally. I ity. feel like he’s been my doctor already for years now and thats due to his warm/​kind/​trusting personality and staff. It doesnt hurt that he’s attractive either but most definitely qualified and capable and educated in his practice!

Another great appointment with Dr. Thompson! As always, he spent the time with me to make sure I understood what he was telling me. And, his new office is beautiful!
I have now asked that he be my primary care doctor because he is the only one I feel tells me the truth.

Dr. Thompson is a GREAT physician!!! His office staff makes me glad to be there, luckily I’m not there often but when I am EVERYONE is my friendly. Dr. Thompson really is concerned about ALL his patients. Keep up the EXCELLENT work

incompetent infectious disease doctor. blames his staff, writes wrong history data, did not attend to my worsening condition at hoag, lies that i was to have surgery in the morning 3 days in a row. other doctors were never notified. caused me to have a crippled finger. i had to find a hand doctor on my own not on staff at hoag who saved my finger from being amputated.
