Great, fairly inexpensive sandwiches with a mom and pop feel. I had the reuben which came with potato chips for $ 7.50. It was very good. I wouldn’t say best in the area, but the cheaper than competitors price made it as good as anyone in the areas. Fun place, I definitely will be back to try something else.

Kim just your average foodie trying to eat my way across the country while I travel for work. This nice little spot was right around the corner from our branch. It definitely feels like I just walked into someone’s grandmas house. The service was average. Not great but not bad. The food was great! Tasty sandwiches, the best coleslaw I’ve ever had and perfect fries. Plus they bring a delicious little bowl of pickles to start the meal. I’d come back frequently if I was going to stay in town.

Danny’s deli was a great find. It’s located in a shopping mall and when you walk in it seems like you’ve walked into someone’s home. Small but plenty of seating. Friendly owner/service. And, the menu is impressive. Lots of sandwiches to choose from– hot, cold or toasted. The small bowl of pickles(homemade) are served right off the bat and I was tempted to ask for more. My friend ordered the John Q and she was very happy with the choice. I can’t remember what my Sammie was called but it had turkey, ham, muenster, cukes and onion. So yummy! If you are in the Newport News area this is a great lunch stop!

Great local spot. Danny’s is no frills. Just a great spot to sit and eat. Good basic food and a relaxed old school vibe. I love the«Paula»

For a place that looks like a hole in the wall, this deli is surprisingly tasty! I went for lunch a couple times with some business colleagues. Excellent selection of sandwiches from both hot and cold menus. Prices were also quite reasonable. Inside there’s sort of an old-school feel which is a nice change of pace from the urban modern restaurant scene. Will probably be visiting again soon.

A local legend around here located near hilton village and a lunch only spot. You don’t get the mile high piles of the north but what you do get is 50 years worth of experience perfecting the local sandwich joint scene. Cold or hot ask the server what’s best. Every meal is served with their famous pickles. It’s that mom and pop you gotta eat at. And the. Come back. My only qualm is that they are a locals only original kind of place but doesn’t have a gluten free option. It’s a nice cheat meal though. And since you are cheating go for the beer batter onion rings!!!

Amazing little diner. Was passing by and I stopped in for lunch. First impression was warm and inviting. Definitely cozy. It’s like a small town country diner with nice lighting and atmosphere. Nothing over the top, just a quaint little setting, enough to make you feel comfortable. I found the wait staff to be very pleasant and hospitable. From what I saw, a lot of people are regulars and the wait staff treat their customers like family. I ordered the Debbie Burger for lunch and It was one of the best burgers I’ve eaten. I loved the amazingly delicious pickles they serve as soon as you sit down. I’m a pickle fan as it is, so that was a pleasant surprise for me.

Fresh sliced dill pickles hit the table as soon as you sit down. I got a reuben and the gf got an Italian sub; both were quite tasty, hot, and fresh. The meat is sliced nice and thin, just how I like it. They have many different sandwich options to select from, as well as several options for type of bread. The waitress was nice, if not quick. The atmosphere is a bit like your grandma’s parlor. I was in on a Saturday afternoon and the crowd was mostly elderly, but we got seated next to an Eastern European man talking loudly on his cell phone across from his wife and daughter :-(. Oh, and they serve beer.

I love danny’s deli but their hours could be better, it seems like they are closed when ever I want to go there, and at odd hours too. The Rueben is delicious and most of their wait staff is nice but some are a little rude, whatever the sandwiches are delicious.

I always enjoy a place that has lots of history, 52 years to be exact. A business associate and I came in for lunch there today. He’s a regular and has been for a few years. We were the youngest ones in the place. Everyone else seemed to be long time regulars for years and years. My friend said they don’t advertise. They’re just a mom and pop shop that has been around for over five decades. When I arrived there were already sliced up pickles on the table. Looks like it’s one of those things they do for everyone. Every time a table became occupied a little bowl of pickles quickly showed up for everyone. Interesting replacement for bread… and the pickles were good. I ordered their Ricki sandwich: pastrami, roast beef and swiss cheese. Overall, a good sandwich. It wasn’t too big but enough to fill you up. They have lots of items that they sell inside, too. I really didn’t take a thorough look but I saw lots of items one would put all over their house… things like cups and table decorations. Neat staple of Newport News.

I love the sandwiches and the pickles at Danny’s. My favorite sandwich is the Felicia. I get it on grilled Sourdough and it has country ham, swiss, lettuce, tomato, and dressing. Throw in a dish of those smack-your-mama-good crisp Kosher Dill pickle chips and it’s heaven right here on earth!

Sadly I haven’t been to Danny’s Deli in ages, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t forgotten them. There is no sense in wasting space here. Danny’s serves up some damn good grub, period! It’s one of the best kept secrets in the city, and I have a feeling the owners would like to keep it that way. It’s been years since I’ve been to Danny’s, yet the thought of their sandwiches still make me drool. The place was packed wall to wall every time I was fortunate enough to eat there.

As soon as you sit down, PICKLES!!! Hewls yeah! Snack on those bad boys while you choose from their awesome sammich selection, or create your own. Pastrami was always a favorite. Served with homemade chips, as a sammich should be. Very hospitable staff. Try it… seriously…TRYIT!!!
