Days Inn Newport News/Oyster Point at City Center

BED BUGS!!!
Not only were there bed bugs, but they refused to refund my money and they basically accused me of lying in spite of the fact I HAD THE BED BUG and BITES and PICTURES to prove it!
Everything else about the hotel was also awful, but I wouldn’t complain about that stuff normally if it weren’t for the awful experience of waking up at 5 AM with a bed bug full of my blood right inside my tank top! DISGUSTING! I just can’t believe they didn’t even acknowledge that I shouldn’t pay and in fact tried to claim an exterminator had looked in the room and found nothing.

DO NOT stay here!!! seriously! Booked a 3 night stay (⁸⁄₃₀ — ⁹⁄₁). First night went ok, then day two. Housekeeping asked if we (friend and I) wanted service, which we did.
Hour and half later we returned to find the TV on the BET (black entertainment television) channel which neither of us watch and we did not leave the TV on .
We left a box of leftover pizza in the fridge to have for lunch. We found a piece of pizza missing, so basically the Days Inn employee stole our food and was watching the TV.
A few hours later we heard loud yelling using obscene/​vulgar language in the parking lot. I looked out the window and observed the Days Inn housekeeping staff doing the yelling which went on for some time. I really felt violated and unsafe so I went to the office to talk to the manager only to find the housekeeping people were now in the office continuing with the obscene language along with the office people.
I turned around, packed up my belongings and left the hotel.

The staff was very courteous and friendly. Not so much the cockroach on the wall the second I walked in the door. The room itself had a weird humidity issue and the TV didn’t have all the channels listed on the guide. The privacy hang tag was also missing. The bed was very comfortable, however, and great for having hot sex with your mate. I can’t comment on the continental breakfast because it got cleaned out by some Hispanic family with literally a stack of toast on their plate with other things. What’s wrong with people? I mean, what the hell happened to common courtesy? I wish that family had an entry on Unilocal so I could review them. Oh yeah, the hotel. So I wouldn’t recommend it.

I’ll start off by saying that the front desk attendants are very helpful and extremely friendly here! Ciara helped us by providing extra towels and the iron that we were missing and letting us know that they are currently renovating the hotel.
I was lucky to get a fantastic deal on this hotel using Hotwire so it was relatively cheap. Suffice to say I was not expecting 5 star accommodation! It’s not the prettiest hotel exterior. In fact I was under the impression that it was some abandoned building and that the hotel that we were supposed to check into was behind it. Many windows are broken and there are few lights ever on. There was a rather shady individual hanging out in the parking lot. I really would not feel safe in the parking lot or the hotel if I was checking in by myself.
When we walked it it was clear this was an older hotel (you can just smell it) but I did see some unfinished painting jobs along with some newer looking wallpaper.
Like I previously stated the front desk attendant was awesome and got us checked in fast and smoothly.
After traveling all day I was thankful for anything representing a bed! Unfortunately I had to fumble in the dark to plug in the lamps (the coffee pot was placed no where near an outlet. We had to move it next to the TV). After the room was lit up I was able to see the paint (that I immediately smelled upon opening the room door) all over the carpet. The workmen or housekeepers hadn’t vacuumed up the paint crumbs, so they had accumulated in the corner next to the air conditioner (which works very well!). The furniture looks newish but the dresser has a huge crack in the top. The bed spread has a hole in it from what looks like a cigarette (non-​smoking room).
It’s our second day here and we have yet to have our room cleaned by housekeeping but that may have been a misunderstanding. All in all it’s a bed to sleep in and a place to take a shower. If you keep the curtains closed its not so bad. Very quiet in here but that might be due to very few guests.
