Love their $ 2 bloodies and mimosas on sundays! Staff is always super friendly and accommodating. No vegan options but their hush puppies are on point.

The seafood was the worst I ever had, the oyster was fired hard, with the taste of old grease, all so they were the size of my finger tip, small. I can say the she crab soup hush puppies was good, but the bowl of soup came out with my dinner, which it came out ten minutes after we order, boy that was fast. So I would never return or tell anyone about the place.

First thing you notice when you walk in… CLEAN!!. The atmosphere is very nice, music is not too Loud. The wait staff is attentive and pleasant to deal with.
All the food was brought out very quickly (within like 7 minutes or so)
First thing I tried was the barbeque shrimp appetizer. The shrimp where wrapped in Bacon and smothered in a nice barbeque sauce. The shrimp where large sized and cooked well.
The steamed platter (shrimp, oysters, muscles) was very good everything tasted very fresh. The portion size wasn’t huge like the fish tacos but enough to fill you up.
The fish tacos where very good. Lightly friend and not over bearing. Everything inside the taco flowed well together. Also very filling. The sweet potato fries with them where good as well.
Overall a very pleasant experience. I would definitely come back here again. Not exactly a bang for your Buck place but good food and good service.

Food took forever and was lukewarm when it finally arrived. No it was cold. Definitely NOT worth the wait.

I’m not one to install a lot of apps on my devices, but I really want to share our impressions of Harpoon Larry’s.
The parking lot was packed, which is a good first sign.
Upon entering the restaurant the smell of fresh seafood being prepared was delightful. The hostess greeted us with a pleasant smile and despite the seemingly packed lot, escorted us to a table right away.
Our server Tammy was at our table as soon as we were seated. Tammy was sweet and highly knowledgeable concerning both the menu which she easily navigated as gave us an overview of the fare, as well as some brief history of the establishment.
The raw clams were obviously quite fresh and delicious.
The buffalo Oysters were some of the most tender we’ve every had and the soft shell crab was large, meaty and perfectly prepared.
All in all our dinning at Harpoon Larry’s was top notch, a definite «do again» and one that I recommend without hesitation.

Food was good, our server friendly and prompt. The atmosphere was crowded and noisy. The temperature was either freezing or hot and muggy… not good.
I had the steamed mussels as an appetizer that came out with our entrees but they were pretty good. The beer was cold and a reasonable price. Not bad.

My family and I reserved an area for a get together. The service was great and the food was amazing. The salmon was some of the best I have ever tasted! This is a great spot in Newport News.

Ever have so many words to say about an experience but don’t know where to start? That’s where I am! After a great time at wine and design Oyster Point, I was in the mood for crab cakes. After searching a few places, I convinced my partner to try out this place and I’m so glad we did. All of the staff were AMAZING and friendly from the time we entered, to the time we left. They allowed us to sit where we were most comfortable which was cool because the first few tables we wanted to sit were super chilly ! Our waitress STORM was freaking awesome and very hospitable! She made the best recommendations on the menu for myself as well as my partner and she didn’t disappoint. She made sure that our food was nothing but the best as well as our drinks. I had the waiting list drink and it was sooooo good! Appearance of the drink was a 10, the taste was a 10! My partner had a Rum runner which was frozen and it was great too! The crab cakes were sooo meaty and seasoned to perfection! I normally don’t eat seafood but today was worth it! Oh, and the shrimp!!! O m g ! Perfect!!! The way they cooked and seasoned and presented so swiftly, made this experience great. I was able to get to let the manager know as well of my experience which was great because very rarely do you find a manager on site after 10pm. I don’t know if Storm’s welcoming personality made it the greatest or if it was the food but between the two, it was phenomenal. I will definitely be back.

Excellent, fun, good food! Glad to see the new location hasn’t suffered too much in transition. A bit lax on service, but I’m hopeful they’ll get there! LOVE HARPOON LARRY’S!!!

Loved my waiter John and the food was on point. Hot and didn’t take long. Went on a Tuesday night so it wasn’t too busy and the rum runner is as good as they claim!

Thank you for opening in Newport News. Crab legs and shrimp all dayyyyyy. Seafood game is at that level.

We had another disappointing dining experience at Harpoon Larry’s this weekend, identical to our last visit. Good food, but miserable service. This time, at least the Manager, David, was very concerned which is something. However, it would just be nice if they would train — and manage — their young wait staff. Consistently poor service
at any business is just poor leadership.

So, not the best and not the worst seafood I’ve ever had. Friendly waitstaff helps them earn a three.
The noise level is off the charts.
The she crab soup okay. The broiled seafood platter that I ordered was disappointing, but I am from the Gulf Coast and am very picky about seafood.

Food tastes so good that I forgot my beer! OMG the seafood is so fresh! I ordered the Harpoon platter. The crab cake is practically all crab with no filler. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the hush puppies are just the right amount of sweetness. If you love seafood you will love this place.

I’d always drive past this place on J Clyde, and just write it off as another dumpy motorcycle seafood joint… but I’m glad I went in.
Firstly, it was packed tonight, and remained packed for a good while… I saw a few people waiting in the front, so I was worried I’d have to wait a while as well. However; when I got up and requested a table for two, the hostess was ready to go, off the bat (score 1). We had a booth right near the door, but since I was facing away from it, didn’t bother me as much. I liked being able to see most of the restaurant from my seat. Our server, Sierra, was great! (score 2) Very friendly, patient and relaxed.
I’ve never had soft shell crab before, but Sierra explained their season starts May 21, so I guess I’ll have to wait a few more days. I ended up getting the Shrimp + Cake with a Moscato and sweet tea. The shrimp was good, though just regular friend shrimp, the breading was nice and crunchy. The Crabcake (blackened), was yummy~ soft, moist and good crab meat, I had a few tiny shell pieces. whatever dipping sauce they give with it was awesome.
The moscato I ordered was listed as $ 6 on the table menu, however on the bill came out as $ 7. When we pointed it out to our server, she explained that $ 7 was the new price (table flap menu, old) and to take the extra dollar out of her tip (when do you hear a server suggest that? completely floored me, so I told my paying friend to tip her extra).
Great atmosphere, GREAT service, and delicious food. Will definitely be back

A great seafood joint. It was my first time at the restaurant, but I heard it is always packed here. It’s a bit noisy to the right of the restaurant, but it’s not terrible.
I got the Tuna. It was delicious. My momma and her bf got the shrimp tower. That was also delicious. Our waiter forgot to bring her tea a couple of times, but other than that, he was attentive and friendly. Plus, they provide a variety of local brews. Good stuff!

Food favorite: seafood pizza
Beverage selection: local brews and a local favorite, the «rum runner» which is prepared in a slushie machine and is topped off with either Bacardi 151 or 99 Bananas. I ordered a local beer called «The Love» which tasted like a Paulaners.

Here for a $ 10 lunch, I ordered Fish Tacos and my friend ordered the Tuna Wrap. She thought there was too much lettuce and not enough Tuna Salad in her wrap. I enjoyed my tacos and for the money the food was a good value.

A few weeks ago I had a taste for some raw oysters, so I went online to find the nearest place that did the raw oysters sort of thing. Harpoon Larry’s was that kind of place. The newly built one, while further away than the old place, was still the closest of the 6 or 7 oyster bars near me. I remember Harpoon Larry’s from the old location; while the food was good, the restaurant itself was always too crowded, and it was hard to find parking. However, you would always be satisfied when your food arrived. Last Saturday was no different. Lunch time is the best time to go if you’re trying to avoid the crowds, plus you’ll find ample parking during the lunch hours. I started out with a half a dozen raw oysters (they have several types of oysters, and they vary in size and flavor), and I finished with a nice-​sized fried flounder fish sandwich. Both were delicious. Since I sat at the bar, I had a clear view of the football game and the lovely, world-​class oyster shucker in action.

I love this place! Excellent service, atmosphere and food! Came for brunch and was not disappointed! Prices excellent and portions were so big! I just love it here!

Best sweet potato fries ever! Great selection of seafood items. Fresh clams and oysters BUT please train whoever is shucking them better! I had so many shells in the whole dozen that I ordered. There is zero enjoyment in biting into shells over and over again!

Started with crab dip followed by shrimp and cake dinner. Food was awesome!!! First time there but will definitely go back again and again!!!

Excellent seafood house. The fish is fresh and well prepared. Bar offers nicely made mixed drinks and a good selection of beer on tap, including standards and craft beers. The oysters are lovely here. Hushpuppies are wonderful. I’d hope for a few more veggie selections for the sides. Staff are friendly and helpful. The music and TV are a bit loud, but it’s both a bar and a restaurant, so it’s understandable, and the food is good enough to make the noise a minor issue.

We came here for an early Valentine’s meal and were not disappointed. All was superb. The food was very fresh and delicious, the staff very knowledgable and there was a sizable adult beverage menu to choose from. Awesome experience!

I really enjoyed my experience here. I only ordered drinks (RUM RUNNER AND SHARK BITE) which were fantastically recommended by my waitress KIM. KIM is so personable and friendly and delivers terrific service. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food and the portions were a great size. I totally would advice you to give this place a try. We will be back.

The best seafood restaurant in Hampton /​Newport News coupled with the best Rum Runners… Harpoon Larry’s is our go to place for great food, good drinks and fun times. The steamed shrimp is always on point and seasoned as requested «Heavy Old Bay»

Bigger is not always better. The new location is nice and very cozy. The quality of food is ok but there is something missing. The smaller store in Hampton had such a family vibe about it where this one does not. Staff was nice, our server was GREAT! He made some suggestions and they were ok. The whole time I was there one employee was standing at the entrance leaning on a banister talking to some guy, not too professional. Prices were expensive. Its OK, but there are better places.

It’s a Monday and wanted to wait for traffic to die down. Remembering how I enjoyed this establishments oysters Mariner’s Museum food event a couple of weeks ago, I stopped by. I hit the jackpot! Mondays are oyster Mondays!!! .50 til 5PM, .60 til 6PM, & .70 til 7 PM, BOGO free oyster shooters with your choice of vodka or choice of an oyster stout made especially for Harpoon Larry’s, AND $ 10 for 10 Oysters Rock!!!
I easily had 1.5 dozen raw oysters with their house made dive sauce! If one likes spicy, THIS is it! The select oysters that were harvested last night were «Capt. Jax» which are farm raised James River oysters. From what Ryan (oyster shucker debonair) explained, James River oysters are wild while Capt. Jax are farm raised. The consistency & flavors were mild, juicy, & fresh!!!
I spent maybe an hour at the oyster bar and it was the best hour I have ever spent waiting for traffic to die down!
