I would give them six stars if I could. Ordered the Rueben on Rye and it was omg amazing. If my wife was there it would’ve blown her tits straight off! I would highly recommend stopping by for lunch and get their homemade potato salad for your side.

Had the best burger of my life from this place! Everything is fairly priced and the staff was great. Their only fall back is that they’re only open a few hours a day. But definitely no complaints about the food or the price. If I didn’t care about the calories, I would eat The every day!

My husband and I heard nothing but amazing things about this place. The reviews are great, and pictures looked enticing. But sadly, we’ve never been able to try anything. Twice we tried, at least 6 months apart, to get there for breakfast. Twice, they were not open when their hours said that they would be. Sorry to say we will not be disappointed again.

Amazing food! I had the N’awlins Burger. It was fresh, hot, and delicious! The atmosphere is very friendly and casual. It’s like your friends enjoying brunch with the owner and workers. It’s obvious everyone here enjoys what they do. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

That Nawlins burger is something else. The patties were so juicy and the shrimp mayo and cheese just made it pop. Really good. I can’t wait to go try this place again!

UPDATE– I just happened to pass by and catch them open on a Saturday… Upgrading my review to five stars! My Bayou Benedict was SOOOOOOGOOD that I could not stop to take a picture!!! Tongue-tingling, flavorful yumminess! SO happy I came back!!! It’s the kind of place where every little detail is perfect. The coffee was perfect, the little fruit garnish was perfect, if you taste the shrimp on its own, PERFECT! Cornbread was baking as we waited.

Very good! Don’t go in expecting table cloths, anything fancy, but the food is strictly professional. Good staff, too.

I’m a fan! I’ve come here a couple times more. Great food & service. My only cons are that they randomly close & they run out of certain items(drinks/food later in the day). They were actually closed the 1st3 times I tried to dine here. N’AWLINSBURGER: Definitely can’t eat this everyday. So juicy and cheesy. Doesn’t take long to make. The sauce has a little kick which I loved. Highly recommend for cheat days. REDNECKBENEDICT: I enjoyed this more than the burger above. The sauce was great! I think this place has great sauces that are flavorful, heavy, and with a little spice kick. This was more filing than I expected, and I was surprised that I enjoyed it as much given that I’m normally not a fan of benedicts.

Midtown Eats, American Fusion deep in the heart of Hampton Roads. Wow, wasn’t expecting much from this place based on the outside. Its hidden in a shopping center off J Clyde(near Stratford). The sign says Midtown Eats(vinyl sign). Walk into restaurant and they were playing cajun music, the kitchen is in the main area, the chef greets you and makes you feel like you are at home. We got there and less then a minute later the chef gave us a sample of the chorizo gravy. Wow oh wow it was good. Since the menu changes every time, that morning I had the Redneck Benedict. It is a platter with jalapeño cornbread, with egg and chorizo sausage gravy smothering the entire dish. Wow it was so good I wanted to lick the plate clean. The chef told us we could order off the menu or he would create something special for us. Not too many places do that anymore. Most definitely coming back to this place. Just a tip arrive early, space is tight and not good for groups bigger then 4.

Small menu, cozy little place. We finally got in before their closing hours. They have New Orleans music in the background & the staff is friendly. Maria & the chef and/or owner, uh… Mark, are engaging. They even gave us tips on weekend happenings in the area. They ask if you’re local or passing by. We met a regular that eats there 6 days a week & simply orders«food» and he gets off the menu stuff. He seems to be their beta tester for new meals. How awesome is that?! Food is great! I had the N’awlins burger with potato salad, hubbs had the Redneck Benedict which is jalapeño cornbread with chorizo gravy. I had a bite & it was amazing stuff! Kiddo asked for the cheese burger with potato chips. We had no room left– the burgers have two patties– I almost asked for the burgers with just one patty & then left it as it comes. I now know one patty is my limit. Let me lose the 5 lbs I gained, then I’ll be back.

Small place with 6 tables. I ordered the Thai Chicken Wrap and one daughter the Surry Burger and the other Carolina Dogs. I enjoyed the wrap, a lime wedge would’ve elevated the flavor. The Carolina Dogs had generous amounts of very vinegary BBQ and my other daughter thought the BBQ overpowered her burger. Good food just a little heavy on the vinegar for the NCBBQ, in their opinion. I value their opinion as we own BBQ restaurants and NC is our specialty. We will come again and try something else.

As soon as we walked in, very friendly! Sat us down quickly. We got the Nawlins burger… and split it. They put them on seperate plates without us even asking! Very very friendly and the burger was juicy and good! Chipotle mayo was good too! b

Awesome burgers… I got smokehouse burger(loved the cola bbq sauce) and hubby got chorizo chop(hand cut pork loin and house seasoned chorizo with melted cheddar and gouda). I don’t eat chorizo but loved theirs! Small hole in the wall… our favorite kind of place! Super nice staff. Will be back next time we are this way.

Hadn’t been here in a while, so I stopped by for brunch. They had something called a redneck benedict — freakin awesome. Sweet, soft jalapeño cornbread topped with a slice of seasoned pork loin, topped with 2 perfect poached eggs topped with a super flavorful chorizo gravy. Served with potatoes. I pretty much licked the plate. They were training a new cook, and a large order went in just in front of us, so the food took a long time to come out. But it was worth it. Yum.

A little out of the way in the same center as Stratford University off J. Clyde Morris, Midtown Eats puts out high end breakfasts and lunches in a low budget environment. Service is first rate, and the repartee with the owners/chefs of the house are worth the price of admission. They are totally into their mission to create tasty meals with basic ingredients, right where you can see them at their craft. Bro Lo and I split the Breakfast Burrito and Breakfast Sandwich, and they gladly plated them the way we intended to eat them. Both were loaded with Egg, Onion, Pepper, Cheese, while the Burrito had Sausage, Black Beans, Corn and Guac, and the Sandwich thick cut Bacon on Toasted Rye. We liked both, but agreed the Burrito was the stronger entry. Coffee was fresh and had an unusual taste from whatever beans they used. It flowed freely throughout the meal. If you like knotty pine paneling and local artwork hanging on the walls, this is your place. They were open on July 4th because they needed to be, so if you like to support your local businesspeople, give Midtown Eats a visit or two, and tell your friends about it. They also offer a free Tapas/Small Plate spread complete with alcohol for a cool brunch. Best to call to confirm when that is happening. In my short tour of the breakfast alternatives in the NN area over the past few years, this stop was the most worthwhile for breakfast.

As a huge advocate of this local gem of a spot, I was horrified to find I haven’t even written a review yet, and must rectify this oversight with all haste! Whether it’s brunch, lunch, happy hours or dinner, Midtown eats should be your go-to pick in NN. This cozy little space hides a fantastic secret — some of the most amazing food available on the Peninsula! Rather than review them all, I’ll pick my favorite meal to review and encourage you to go experience all of them. Friday Night Tapas: Free food while you drink at Happy Hour. Yes, you heard me. Tasty, scrumptious, heavenly bites of whatever Chef Mark has decided will make the best offering that night and you will LOVE every morsel. Tiny bowls of Gazpacho, Pork sliders with homemade strawberry BBQ sauce, steamed mussels, chicken satay with Jasmine rice, Spicy Shrimp & Grits, Sesame Asparagus & mushrooms… the list is endless & mouthwatering! Pair that with a little wine, beer, or house made Sangria and you’ve got Friday night perfection. Still hungry? Order a Burger or the nightly house special(changes daily, are you seeing a theme yet, fellow Unilocalers?) and go home one satisfied and very full customer.
