Bud’s does a good job countering the nightmare food-shopping scenario that would be a trip to Wal-Mart. There are a few things missing from this Shop’n Save’s shelves that seem like they should be there, but the people who work here are courteous, pleasant, and will go out of their way to help you. Plus you know you are getting way better groceries at Bud’s than at the land of the creepy smiley face. I know that I am spoiled living in Providence, where I can get my hands on pretty much anything I want within a 5 mile radius, but it’s annoying not to be able to find something like semolina flour at Bud’s and having to drive to the natural food store down the street. They do make an effort to carry some international foods(cramming many of their offerings under the«oriental» placard… *cringe*), and they also have a section of natural foods and household goods. Their produce, meats and fish are all fresh and good. The store is neat and clean and I always have a good conversation with the cashiers and baggers. For Newport, Maine: 4 stars.
