Very good small Mexican restaurant. Ambiance is very authentic looking and menu provides excellent options. Service is wonderful and servers are very entertaining and have high customer service. Food came out piping hot and fresh. Flavors are excellent with great seasoning but portions are pretty big so plan accordingly. My shrimp tacos were in soft tacos and were delicious with large portion of shrimp in each one. One serving was enough for me so plan to take some home for leftovers. Mexican food to me is like Chinese food, just as good if not better the next day… YUMMY! Recommend this restaurant if craving Mexican flair.

To be fair, it might be closer to a 2 ½ star review. On the plus side they don’t advertise themselves as a Mexican restaurant. They’re hardly a Southwestern restaurant either. This place is like a TGI Friday’s with a Southwestern décor. On the plus side, the staff was always honest and attentive. The Southwestern décor was cool(I like the Blazing Saddles poster) if not a little campy. After I questioned the waitress, I found out the chicken wings are precooked and then reheated in the deep fryer per order. The spinach quesadila is mediocre. The fish tacos are pretty decent, the best menu item I tried. The refried beans and rice sides are not good. They taste bland, like they’re straight out of a can. Bottom line, they have no local competition and no real reason to improve. I won’t be back.

Mainers Go Mexican! The food is not bad but I even went as far as asking if the kitchen was filled with Mainers the waitress told I was right. I have eaten a lot of Mexican food in my life both good and bad and I have never had Mexican food like this place serves. If you are looking for Mexican with a Maine twist good for it.

Just ok… we’ve lived in New Mexico before so our advise may be a bit tainted. It seems like the authentic flavors of most restaurants in this area are lost over time. Maybe locals complaint too much about«strong» flavoring or just prefer fried foods. Not positive of the reasoning but this restaurant is a prime example of imitation Mexican food. Bland, no heat and no personality. If you’re looking for good Mexican food, go to Portland.

It has been awhile since we have eaten here and really wish we had been back sooner. Our waitress Hannah was friendly and attentive. I had the shrimp tacos and guacamole and chips. I really wish I could make guacamole that good. If you like spice make sure to ask for the habanero sauce you won’t be disappointed. Really looking forward to our next visit.

food isn’t too bad. has great flavor… pricing is a little high, but not unreasonable. seating seems a little cramped. haven’t tried the drinks so I don’t know anything about that aspect of the place.

Um — AMAZING! I was up in Maine for a conference in Bangor, and someone had mentioned this place. I drove by it(it’s small) and wasn’t sure how good a Mexican/Southwest restaurant would be in the a small town in Maine. But I was very pleasantly surprised. I had a couple margaritas which were very, very good and the spinach enchiladas. Really strong, fresh flavors that I wasn’t expecting. This is definitely a «Don’t judge a book by its cover» place. The inside is very comfortable with booth seating.

I’m a very frequent visitor to Newport and it’s hard to find restaurants without traveling too far, so I try to give the benefit of the doubt to any that are able to survive. I’ve been here a few times, and I keep hoping it gets better… it doesn’t. Upon entering, we grabbed a few of the weakest Margarita’s I’ve ever had at the bar, served by a gentleman who is about as angry at having customers as I’ve ever seen. Flat affect and it appeared you were bothering him by requesting a drink. VERY unfriendly. Though it may not be fair to say that because he didn’t utter a word to us at all other than to rattle off what Tequila they served. The only thing that saved us from walking out was the friendly chatter of the servers who made the effort to engage in some small talk. Once seated we ordered and the service was quite fast and friendly. However, when my dining buddy ordered the Teriyaki Chipolte Steak Skillet and asked for it medium rare, the waitress said«No, sorry, the owner has a policy of cooking it his way and he won’t cook it that way». Wow… now I understand the risk of eating undercooked food, and have seen warnings on the menu, but to be told you have to eat steak the way the cook wants you to is ludicrous. Nonetheless, he ordered it. I had the El Mexicana Burrito with Chorzio. The verdict? No mas… please. The steak was like shoe leather and my buddy actually removed multiple pieces from his mouth upon finding it impossible to chew enough to get it to pass down his esophagus! He was not happy to say the least. Even more so when he washed it down with the hapless weak Margarita. My burrito was stuffed fairly well with black bean corn salsa and cheese… bland for sure though. It was tasteless, lacking even a hint of heat, spice or even salt for that matter. I was sure the Chorzio would save it as it is one of my all time favorite spicy sausages. However, it was clear that these sausages were boiled to the point of inedibility before before being placed on a grill for a matter of seconds to make it appear they were actually cooked over fire. So, my bland burrito was complemented by an overcooked boiled sausage that had no right being passed off as Chorzio. Last time I looked, Chorzio was red… this tubed meat had a grey pallor that was an aesthetic turn off. Looking at it made taste worse than it was. At least I was able to mask most of the taste with the fiery Habernero sauce that I thankfully doused the burrito in. At least the rice was passable… Long story short… I’d steer clear until the attitude and food change.

Don’t let the unassuming store front sway you, this place is very, very good! A hidden gem not far off the highway.

Finding good«ethnic» food spots in MAINE is pretty hard. Most restaurants are either chains(Texas Roadhouse, Denny’s — EW!, Chili’s, Olive Garden, etc.) but if you do come across independent places, they aren’t usually the best. I visited a friend of mine in Maine and we were both craving Mexican food. She lives in Dover, and there aren’t any Mexican places in that town soooo, we used our BFF, Google, and found Cervesas. We were pleasantly surprised! Super good vegetarian enchiladas and chicken burritos. The people next to our table had fajitas and it looked pretty good, too. It’s hard to mess up refried beans, so loved the beans and the rice, too! Nice little place, but I am a snob New Yorker… I’ve had better in the city, especially Queens.

Tough little place to find, I blew by it the first time(on a state road, the building looks like it started as a small house). Worth the trouble though. This is California Mexican, but good service, very fresh ingredients, and really well priced. The margaritas are a bit weak for my taste, so now I just get the large for a dollar more! If it says anything, I am in town for four days, and have tried to eat here twice. I say tried, because on weekends there is a long wait.

We stopped here on our drive through Maine and were surprised to find such good Southwest food in this small town just off Route 95. The place is decorated with bright colors and a mix of old western movie décor and a Native American theme. Our waiter was attentive and the food came quickly. I had the taco salad, which was very yummy, large and generous on the chili. My companions had the fish tacos and shrimp tacos; both were very good. The only complaint one of them had was that the refried beans were up against the taco on the plate and got a little messy on the outside of the tortilla. Overall, we had a very positive experience at Cervesas!
