The best hookah spot I’ve ever been to. Great selection of flavored, nicely decorated, friendly staff, and byob make for a great experience.

I like to go to a hookah bar once every weekend if possible and this the only one in town as far as I know. I absolutely love hookah, but Genie’s is the first place that has disappointed me so much. The seating is very uncomfortable even for a traditional style arrangement. The food was sub-par and still as expensive as much nicer restaurants in the area. The service was pleasant, but rather clueless on shisha. If I ask for ice, you don’t tell me you put a disposable plastic hose in a refrigerator, which was warm in five minutes. The hookah itself was decent, but again probably $ 5 more than it should be. BYOB. This might be the only place in the area, but I’d rather not go at all.

Awesome place… Awesome service… really cool and friendly environment. I love taking my laptop there and working for hours on end. It’s better than starbucks personally because there is a sense of privacy while being in an environment with other.

Hookahs are realllly good and varieties of options. Prices are really good and affordable. Songs are really tuned with the place. Service people are amazing and super friendly. One word JUST awesome.

Worse place ever! They deserve zero stars! If you’re looking for a place to get ripped off, this is the place to be. Very nice waitress, but hookah wasn’t good at all— a complete waste of money. Won’t be coming back

First time coming here all the way from Foxboro. I think this is the best lounge I’ve visited. The Hookah was hitting hard, Elmar and jasmine was so polite, professional and came by every 15 minutes to clear off ashes and the owner took mine and my wife’s pic for their Facebook page. I understand the 1.00 pour, it is what it is. They are not making money on alcohol so I think people should stop trying to find negatives and accept the fact that they are working hard for our business like we all do in our own professions. Job well done. You have gained new customers!!!

Had a great time here. The owners are so nice, it feels like your at a family party. The hookah’s were great and if you feel up to it pay extra to make smoke bubbles. It’s BYOB but right across the street is a nice liquor store!

An interesting place to visit in Newport! Be forewarned it’s BYOB and they have a severe and bottle fee. If you don’t bring your own beverage they will make you buy something to «ensure» you are hydrated haha! But, it is relaxing and the employees were very friendly!

A few weeks ago my friends and I came here just for hookah(we were aware they serve food but we had already eaten). We are all from New Jersey and there are a lot of hookah places around us so we usually know what we are talking about in terms of pricing and quality. For one, hookah bars in NJ were not this expensive but we figured we were in a new place so we didn’t mind paying the extra cost. We saw a sign that said BYOB so we brought a 6 pack of newport storm with. As we walk in, the lady at the counter informs us that they will be charging us to drink our own alcohol. Already off the bat that sounded insane to us because if you are going to put up a sign that says BYOB naturally you’d think you wouldn’t be charged to drink your own beer. I guess then a few of the people behind the counter smirked at us for the way we were dressed which I didn’t understand because we all were dressed casually and respectably. After this, we were nothing short of insulting then back but then decided to quietly leave. It’s really such a shame for a business to treat paying customers like that, and charging them for ridiculous things like bringing their own drinking while putting a sign in the window that says BYOB that turns out to be misleading. The even more sad part is that if they hadn’t been so rude to us we actually would have sucked it up and gone along with the bogus prices all because we wanted to relax after driving 4.5 hours from NJ to newport and just have some hookah.

Delicious, authentic, home cooked style Middle Eastern food in the heart of Newport! To be honest I’ve been a resident of Newport for five years and while I’ve been to Genies to enjoy a hookah and some BYOB, I never realized they had an extensive food menu. Let me say I’ve been missing out for five years! But not anymore. I definitely recommend everyone stop by for a delicious meal from great hosts!

Good food; especially loved the fava bean rice and the grape leaves. Of course you’ve got to rock the house specialty tea. Now to the service: i appreciate any business that gives young guys a chance at a job but at least give them the respect of some decent training. Service was slow, had to ask for napkins and small plates since we were sharing, and while the kid was clearly trying hard he was virtually anti social. I can see why there were similar reviews for weekend crowds: we were here early on a Tuesday night.

Great food and awesome atmosphere. The hookah selection is huge and the byob option is great. They do ask for prices per the glass but it’s completely reasonable. They don’t ask you replace the hookah after a certain amount of time like other hookah bars so that’s a plus. Overall a great place for friends or simple date night.

After being away for about a year and half, I finally made it back to Genie’s, and my only regret was having stayed away so long! The atmosphere was just as good as I remembered it(only better!), the servers and the owner recognized me as soon as I walked in the door, and I knew immediately that I just can’t stay away for that long again. I brought a co-worker who used to live in the Middle East, and as soon as she walked in she said, «I’m home!» She said it is just like so many of the tea houses and hookah bars that she visited in Jordan and Bahrain, down to the colors, the furniture, the lights, and the general atmosphere. The owners really pride themselves that when they welcome you to Genie’s, they are welcoming you into their home. The owners aren’t sitting in some office in a back room or the basement, they are right there enjoying the experience with everybody else, leading the clapping and cheering for the belly dancers, and talking to patrons. I guess I may have a different experience or expectations from others, but I find the pricing to be beyond reasonable. We spent no more for dinner, drinks(yes, we brought a bottle of wine), dessert, and two hookahs than we would have spent at any other decent restaurant in Newport. In fact, I would say we probably spent less. Sure, there is an uncorking fee and a glass fee, but when a single GLASS of wine costs $ 7 — $ 12 at other restaurants with similar food pricing, you can drink your entire bottle at Genie’s for the cost of one glass elsewhere. Go across the street to Bellvue Liquors and tell them you are getting something for Genie’s — not only will you be able to purchase your favorite bottle of wine, but you get 10% off. I don’t know many restaurants that essentially guarantee that they will have your favorite bottle and not only won’t mark up your wine, but actually give you a 10% discount. Same situation for beer… Some of these reviewers seem upset that they were«forced» to purchase a $ 2.50 bottle of water; there is no cover charge to get into Genie’s, and $ 2.50 is a paltry price to pay compared to the cover at other local establishments. I have been here probably a dozen times, and every time the staff asks permission to take my picture. I have found the staff to be friendly and attentive with customers who are engaging, and give customers who are obviously looking for private time all the space they require. I have also found the patrons to be equally hospitable. As some other reviewers mentioned, there is little separation between patrons. People seem to talk to each other, offer to take pictures for other patrons, and are very polite and respectful. Don’t know what to order? Ask the person next to you! I’ve never met anybody at Genie’s who wasn’t willing to offer advice or give an opinion on what to order. I simply can’t be any more positive! Like my co-worker, when I walk into Genie’s I feel like I’m coming home!

Great place for a date night! Good atmosphere and staff. P. s. Be warned if you order a water it comes bottled, and it seems like a non-negotiable. So know your spending $ 2.50 regardless.

Hookah hookah hookah. What a fun place!!! We had this fruity hookah in sprite! Never smoked with sprite. But it was nice and smooth. There was a belly dancer that night(Saturdays). She was entertaining. The lounge chairs were comfy. The music was cool! It was a nice size bar and decorated pretty cool!

I’m really surprised with all of these good reviews for Genie’s after the experience I just had. Upon entering this place I knew something was a bit off. My boyfriend and I walked in and the waiters were serving some parties already so we helped ourselves to a table. A party of 4 came in right after us and sat down and the server immediately went over to them to greet them. When he was done he walked right past us with not even a welcome. Finally they got to us and we got served. Overall the hookah was the weakest I’ve ever had in my life. The couches were not comfy at all, hard wood and no padding. They force you to order drinks or you cannot smoke anything. The promised Saturday night belly dancer did not show up and they add a 20% tip to your bill… Yeah no thanks, I will definitely not be returning.
