The absolute BEST milk. My husband and I used to crave Trauth when we moved away, and it was one of the little things (among many) that we were so excited about when we moved back to Cincinnati! :) I remember one time when we lived in Indiana… we saw a Trauth truck on the road… and we freaked out, we were so giddy. But we never did see any in the stores… so…I’m so happy to be living somewhere that I can buy it again… seriously, it’s how milk is supposed to taste! :)

Trauth Dairy is like the Mayfield Dairy which is in East Tennessee (where I’m from): a hometown, solid reputation. We have tried the lowfat milk and the nutty buddies, which are called sundae nut cones, and think they have some excellent products.
If you’re driving any where around Newport, it’s hard to miss the dairy headquarters. Personally, I find the name difficult to pronounce, but I won’t let that hold me back from buying their brand! The company’s web site provides the history as well as some yummy recipes.

Having grown up on Trauth Dairy milk, eggs, ice cream, orange juice, and cottage cheese, I stopped being such a loyal customer when it was revealed that Trauth Dairy cows had been given recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH), a synthetic hormone used to promote milk production that can cause painful mastitis in cows and may affect the human immune system. However, as of February 1, 2008, Trauth Dairy will be a certified rBGH-free dairy.
While I really enjoy Trauth’s chocolate milk, my favorite product is their rainbow sherbet. Everytime I enjoy this treat, I’m transported to the summers of my adolescence. Other flavors that are also delicious are lemon-lime and pineapple.
