This place has potential, and wonderful coffee. I was disappointed as the Spanish omelette had a bare sprinkling of filling, and I was surprised that I couldn’t taste the chorizo in my omelette. This place lacks in seasoning, and I was surprised at the blandness. The food felt painfully as though they were trying to save on expensive ingredients and had a heavy hand with the boiled potatoes and egg. Great coffee, average food.

I got here on a Saturday late morning, and there was already a line out the door with one cashier. Everyone else behind the counter seemed busy, so I’m not sure what was happening there. However, I loved their cranberry, white chocolate, and oat cookie. It had a great balance of flavors, fluffy texture, and just enough sweetness($ 1.71 with tax). It also made me feel like I was eating something slightly healthy, so I guess that’s another plus. The café was full at around 11am. There were tons of other goodies in the counter that I would have love to have tried.

Got an ice mocha to go. Pricier than usual but with 2 shots of espresso, it was nice and strong and not too sweet.

I am down grading my previous review. I have twice ordered an omelette with cheddar cheese and been given American. Yuck. Why is American cheese even a thing? Both times, I didn’t send it back, because I didn’t have time or energy. We’ve returned here a few times, owing to the proximity to where we stay. And my husband likes the coffee(I drink my coffee before we go out for breakfast). But today was the last straw for me.

Wandered in to this café while out for a walk with our dogs. My friend went in to order as I waited outside with the dogs. She came out within 10 minutes with a raspberry scone and egg sandwich, two coffees. While waiting, a table became free in a spot which was perfect. On the corner near the entrance with one side facing the sun and the other in the shade which was perfect for the dogs. When my friend opened the sytrofoam container with the egg sandwich, she noticed it was not what she ordered(egg, bacon, no cheese). It was egg, ham with cheese. She brought it back in and said the young lady at the counter was very friendly about the mistake but the cook seemed perturbed and wanted to dig through the trash and find the receipt. The young lady then replied«there was no receipt, I just rung it in» and then told my friend she will bring the correct order out for us. We started on the scone which was very good, soft and flavorful. Our coffees were great too! The correct egg sandwich was delivered to us in a short amount of time and was great. It was on a toasted hearty wheat bread, egg perfectly cooked with crispy bacon strips. It also came with home fries which were Ok, not the best we’ve ever had. Our breakfast totaled around $ 14.not bad for the quality. While we were dining, a very nice man owner/manager???) came out to greet our dogs and brought a fresh bowl of water for them. A very nice jester and much appreciated!

Let me start off by saying that the actual food served was tasty however there were several things that kept me distracted the entire time and really made me question the food… First the place was less than half full but only had one waitress. She did not seem even remotely interested in what she was doing and took her sweet time even taking our drink order. When she finally did take our drink order my wife and I asked for a glass of water ASAP and cup of coffee. The waitress brought out the coffee first then decided it was the appropriate time to clean off a few tables before bringing us our waters(which we wanted first). When the waters finally did come out the glasses were dirty and the water had things floating around in them. I brought it to our waitresses attention and without saying a single word took both glasses and brought 2 new waters. At this point I observed that the mugs our coffee were brought in looked dirty as well on the outside. So dirty water glasses… dirty coffee mugs… Our food came out and as I mentioned it was in fact tasty BUT due to the issues with our less than clean glasses I couldn’t shake the thought that the plates and probably everything that was used to cook the food was probably dirty as well. Despite the dirty glasses and mugs I am still giving 2 stars because the place does also serve speciality coffee drinks in to-go glasses(which I can only hope are clean).

Avoid this little gem if you are hungry. Place was only half full when an order of two eggs over hard and an egg sandwich took all of 45 minutes to arrive… And that was only after several inquiries and a check in with the manager whose only excise was a «snag» in the kitchen. When other patrons who arrived after us were served before us, it is more than a «snag». Food was mediocre at best and to top it off, they got one of the orders wrong. To accommodate the lost hour of our lives they gave us free coffee. No thanks.

My wife and I live locally and have been going to ocean coffee roasters regularly(2 – 3 times or more per month) for over 10 years. It’s always been a great breakfast spot and we enjoyed it as OCR. Now under new management as the Washington square café we are not coming back unless our new local breakfast place is too packed. Not only have the prices increased quite dramatically but we were denied a take out breakfast order(2 bagels with Lox and cream cheese) because they were«too busy» meaning that almost all of the restaurant seating was filled. While the quality of the food is still good we aren’t in a rush to come back any time soon.

My first meal In Ri was breakfast when we went to visit back in September. It’s a as a no fuss, good breakfast. The coffee was warming and the staff was friendly. But one thing that I still remember was how much I enjoyed their corned beef hash.

Centrally located in the Washington Square district, this café(now officially known as Washington Square Café and Bakery) has excellent coffee(Empire Teas and Coffee coffee tasted burnt to me) and breakfast all day. All baked goods in their display case are baked on site by one of the co-owners who is not afraid to experiment with new ideas. There is takeaway if you don’t have time to wait, though wait times are not that long. Food is made to order and the homemade corned beef hash is superb! The café has begun to display local artist work on a rotating business so that there will be new visual appeal every couple of months. The owners(took over in February 2014) have been adding other amenities as they make progress as they evaluate what customers old and new, long term and one-time visitors, appear to like consistently. Very child friendly(plastic takeaway cups with cute, colorful pictures on them are standard for delivering milk and juice!). Parking can be tricky on very busy days but there are many spots in front of the café and you’re not far from the main public parking area. Easy walks to the waterfront and shopping district. Update: tried the Corner Café Thanksgiving morning and Washington Square Café looks and tastes even better. Good to have someone who has good, fresh bakery items because Corner Café served a multigrain bagel that tasted like a Lender’s frozen bagel – cardboard!

Really nice busy coffee joint Although I was confused the comments of the coffee roaster so is expecting to come in and see them roasting coffee, I wasn’t sure if they actually roast their own coffee or if they just use that as part of their name and are not actually roasting Coffee was just okay the bit burnt tasting, The ginger peach iced tea was tasty The bakery case was small but didn’t look like they baked them on site. Did not try any pastries just coffee & tea. Service was nice and friendly!

Came here for breakfast after we were disappointed to learn our regular Newport breakfast spot was temporarily closed. It worked out great! We kept it simple with pancakes and egg sandwiches, but were very satisfied with the quality and quantity. Added bonus in that home fries were great too! Like with many breakfast places, our tiny table could barely fit our food, but the good meal and polite waitress more than made up for it. Definitely plan to add it to our Newport rotation!

This turned out to be a great spot for a much needed mid-morning iced coffee on yet another steaming summer day. Ocean Coffee Roasters is housed on the ground floor of a charming old brick building from back in the early days of downtown Newport. Make sure you gaze upward to take a look at the architecture. There’s much more to Newport architecture than those overwrought mansions on Bellevue Ave. Inside, the old world feel continues with the black and white checked floor, exposed duct-work, hanging barn light fixtures and ceiling fans. I like the touch of having orginal artwork on the walls too. The variety of hot and cold coffees, teas and other beverages along with a pastry case filled with delightfuls sweets make for a pleasant stop while shopping in downtown Newport no matter what time of day. They also serve breakfast and lunch if you need an actual meal. It was nice to sit inside this charming place to get cool and caffeinated. And the best part of all: it’s not a Starbucks.

Here just for a coffee, perfectly adequate. Many nice sights in this downtown Newport location; near the water as well. Grab a cup and stroll around. Have a peek at the endless rows of historic homes using the helpful self guided tour displays. The White Horse Tavern is around the corner as well. Just keep feeding those parking meters! Meter readers will write you up in a second!
