Just realized this place is closed it’s too bad because I’ve Been here a few times already because it’s around the corner from me, ordered basic breakfast stuff. Atmosphere is nice, food is great, staff is very nice, will continue to come back. There’s also a small parking lot across the street… #sad

It’s really a shame, this establishment only lasted a little over a year. My family enjoyed their food(especially the bacon) and looked forward to being long-term regulars. My only hope is that it doesn’t become yet another pub/bar style place, but instead perhaps takes a page from Cook or 51 Lincoln. Rox Café was an eatery Newton Highlands sorely lacks and needs — casual dining in a nice environment.

The food is great but very over priced. My turkey sandwich only had two slices of turkey. Very disappointed for portions.

the best part of the experience was the friendly attentive service. Excellent crab cake app(!!) it just wasn’t hot enough sort of tepid! The Avocado salad was good but not memorable after getting it I noticed it was something I make at home weekly! The greens were close to being on their way out or they’d been sitting to close to a warm temp, very little goat cheese too. The bread w/white been spread was a nice touch but needed some seasoning. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and service and would go back for that. Rox has a casual clean true American Bistro Style that I enjoyed.

The JFK breakfast sandwich on the menu in the window was priced at $ 7.00. But on the menu at the table … and on the bill … it was $ 8.50. Although it was delicious. a 20% increase over the posted cost was deceptive and manipulative.

Catch 22 here for me. The food is great! So I keep coming back. But they’re never open according to their times listed in the am. And very often they get your order wrong. Today it has taken me 15 minutes to order a breakfast sandwich. «Order» being the key word. Additional wait time for actual cooking.

Great little place in Newtown, Mass. Service and server were excellent. Clam Chowder and Lobster roll for dinner, could not get more Boston than this. Both excellent.

This place has a fun atmosphere and friendly service. Started with the Maryland crab cake which was my favorite appetizer, the meat and sauce were delicious. The Avocado salad was great as well, lots of avocado, fresh greens and yummy dressing. The Polli chicken flatbread is very rich and flavorful, and perfect for sharing. And saving the best for last — the Maine lobster roll. The lobster was so fresh and the dressing was perfectly balanced. A downside is that the outdoor seating is limited to three tables, so there can be a longer wait for those seats. I’ve been to the other Rox Diner in Newtonville, and the food at Café is a bit better. I had a great time here and will definitely be back soon.

My reviews reflect experiences with a breakfast sandwich to go and lunches. I got an an egg sandwich to go today. GREAT egg sandwich. Nicely toasted English muffin and crispy bacon. I really wanted an egg sandwich today andiIt was consumed and I was satisfied. Sandwiches have been great and I dig the seasoned rosemary fries or sweet potato fries. I am a fan of the Thai chicken wrap, meatloaf sandwich(yum Fig & Pancetta!) and Lion’s Road chicken sandwich(no idea what the tie is to a roaring big cat). Why Unilocal asked if Rox is good for dancing, I’m not sure. I wouldn’t dance here, but some of the sandwiches may make you do a little shimmy shake.

Someone please tell me how this place is still open in such a primo location? Do people drink and party here? Because they certainly don’t come here for the food unless their taste buds have been singed off and they have lots of money to spend on poor presentation and worthless service. We came here for a late lunch on a Friday. There were more wait staff that customers, but we still hung around for a full five minutes before getting seated. We ordered the following: –clam chowder(canned but acceptable) –the flatbread pizza as an appetizer — EXTREMELY bland. Not a single flavor, poor quality cheese, and very boring –the avocado salad. It was just so… boring. There was no flavor, and for $ 15, I was expecting at least a LITTLE effort. They just opened a couple salad bags and threw some crap into a plate. –the burger. Again, BLAND and BORING. The bun was McDonald’s quality, the beef unseasoned, thin and grey. Somehow this worthless meal amounted to $ 60. The waitress didn’t even come by to see if we were enjoying our meal or needed anything. If this place gets shut down for a CVS, a secondhand store, or really ANYTHING that could contribute something to society, the community will be grateful. AVOID!!!

Okay we loved the food but for a diner, 14 dollars for a glass of wine is crazy. We eat there all the time but never drank wine before, we ordered a house can and was shocked at the price for the wine. Eric

We went to the Rox Diner last night and absolutely loved it. We live closer to the Newtonville Location — but that one is definitely more casual. The newer one in Newton Highlands is more upscale at dinner. The service was great. Our waiter was attentive and efficient. He made great recommendations. The food was very very good. I had the best steak frites ever — tender and cooked perfectly. The truffled frites were sublimely delicious. The arrancini app was so good in a small rich pool of basil pesto. Even the rolls were warmed up an served with a yummy white bean purée. I think that the space is modern but nice and not liek the usual pubs around Newton. I think that Rox might need to add a few evening sandwich items to the menu to give something to everyone — but in general — the quality of the food and the service were top notch!

Pretty good place that’s close by for me. It’s definitely not as good as Rox diner(a lot more selections), but it’s still pretty good. The spot is definitely a convenient location. I has a chicken pesto sandwich which was pretty good. Service was slow which annoyed me a little, but overall a good experience. If I had to choose between this place and Rox Diner in Newton(near Newton North) then I would make the extra drive to Rox diner.

I went for breakfast and ordered the rox classic breakfast. I asked for my eggs to be scrambled with cheese and for my hashbrowns to be well done. My husband ordered pancakes with a side of bacon. When the meal came my home fries were not well done and my eggs didn’t have cheese. My husbands pancakes were dry and they didn’t serve with butter or syrup. The bacon was beyond crispy that you couldn’t even eat it. We asked the server to make the homes fries well done and to bring heated cheese for my eggs we also had to ask for butter and syrup! Shouldn’t butter and syrup be served automatically? The server brought back cold cheese and I just said forget it. The pancakes were bland and the only thing I liked was my English muffin. I will not eat here again.

Went to Rox the other day for the first time for lunch. Tried the pumpkin ravioli special which were ravioli’s with squash inside and a delicious sauce topping it. Very good. Nice décor and atmosphere. Good bar area so that I’d like to go for dinner and have a few drinks soon. I understand this is pretty new and I liked it a lot. Menu looks excellent and the one dish was so good I had I very much look forward to trying other items. I think this place is coming into its own now that its been around for a bit as I had a great experience and recent reviews seem much better. I will be back soon.

The food was very good. But the service was initially slow. When I went and spoke to the waitress and explained that we needed to be at a basketball game at seven she hurried up and the food was out very quickly. We had a margarita pizza which was delicious. I would definitely come back when we aren’t so time constrained. Had a Cisco Pumpkin beer — yum! My favorite.

We really enjoyed our reasonably priced tasty and simple dinner. Newton Highlands has needed a a restaurant that is not an Irish pub or overpriced establishment!

I ate there last night with low expectations. I’ve been to their sister restaurant in west newton, hence the low expectations. Last night exceeded my expectations. I still think there is room for improvement and I hope they do. The food was good and the beer selection was great, though they are changing the taps which is disappointing First you MUST speed up the kitchen, it wasn’t even crowded last night. The was a problem at the original, so they need to bring in some outside help to show them how to get stuff moving through the kitchen. Next do something about the décor, its nice, but it has no personality. Overall good food, great vegetarian selections, and we had a nice bartender.

I had the meatloaf, which on its own, was very good. However, the sides were just okay plus a little too much salt. The overall the experience was generic for me. I’ll give breakfast a try however. The service was good.

I was excited to see this place open, as I think that Lincoln st. has a lot of potential for some really great market/restaurant additions instead of salon after salon… sigh. I walked over for breakfast and was eager to peruse their to-go section. However, after seeing the $ 9 price for a classic bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich(really?!), I was unable to make the wallet plunge. I crossed the street to Bread & Chocolate and got one for $ 6(it was delicious).
