The food was ok, and for $ 5 the burger and fries deal really was a great value. Try getting something comparable at a fast food restaurant and see how far $ 5 gets you there. From that perspective I do give the place credit for generous portions and good value. However, I ordered a drink and it arrived with a moldy lime on it. The waitress was apologetic and accommodating when it came to replacing it, but it scares me when a restaurant overlooks something like that. If your limes are moldy, what else is old? I’ve noticed that a previous reviewer also mentioned something about old limes, so it’s sort of a shame that things didn’t improve on that front since then. Average food, good prices, questionable quality control.

Have been for brunch and drinks a few times. Great alternative to the Rox Diner when that’s packed in the mornings and you’re starving. Good brunch, very open to changing up the menu and customizing their eggs Benedicts. Fairly priced, good atmosphere, good service, and good music.

Went to Brewer’s Coalition last night as it was on our list for restaurants we’ve seen on Phantom Gourmet. We were greeted and seated immediately and the staff was very friendly. Thus have a nice selection of beers to try, but there menu seemed a little limited. We started off with the boneless buffalo wings, which were good. I then I had the sliders and sweet potato fries as my meal. The fries were great and the sliders were okay. My boyfriend had the french dip with mashed potatoes and said both were fine too. Overall, we thought this place was good. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was good, just nothing amazing. We would return

Whenever I come in, the staff is very friendly. They let me split orders, don’t charge for it and plate it for both people. They have a great rotating beer selection as well. I love the burgers here. They make them perfect and I love their fries and onion rings. Not a huge fan of their coffee, but that’s ok, there are do many other drink options.

Great selection of beers, and the staff was very knowledgeable. They even let me taste a beer before I bought it! The burgers were excellent as well, what’s not to like? If I had a complaint, it’s that parking can be tough at times in Newtonville, but not enough to keep me away!

OK, on the second visit, the food was much better. The burger was hot, juicy and tasty and the fries were hot and crispy. I went at about 2:45 on a weekday afternoon. i was too late for the lunch crowd and way to early for dinner. I was the only patron at the time. I was seated quickly, the order was taken and brought to me in a timely fashion. I do have a few suggestions having to do with the service though. They really should give more than one napkin with such juicy burgers. And placing a steak knife with the meal to enable a patron to cut the burger in half would be a nice touch. It really is bit big to eat whole. One more thing. As the only customer, it would have been nice if the waitperson had come over at some point to see if everything was OK with the meal. She only came by when i was very clear that I was finished and ready for the check.

Smells so great out on the street! All the wait staff was friendly and on the ball — our waitress was v nice Beer selection was good, nice looking pub. Food was at best ok. My sister and I had the salmon with fresh salsa on top, but the salsa tested like rotten tomatoes and brown avocado. My brother had fish and chips and now he has the trots… Don’t expect we’ll go here again

Came here last night for dinner having never been and hearing good things from co-workers. I had the Coalition burger with fries and it was delicious! I asked for it to be coked medium, and it was cooked perfectly. Juicy and simple; no fuss. Good menu. I definitely want to come back and try some more things. A little pricey but it is Newton afterall. Good drink menu. Definitely not the sort of place to come if you’re looking for something atypical or not able to find elsewhere but it seems they do what they do well. Nice ambiance and excellent service. Looking forward to our next visit.

I would have given five stars but… Love this place except for their new policy of only allowing one beer sample. I can’t even make a comparison on the basis of one sample.

This rating is specific to their Lunch special that I had recently… $ 5 burger special. It is between Monday and Friday, from 11:30am to 2pm, I believe. The burger is charbroiled and came out cooked to my specification. Not dry at all. Nicely charred with a smoky flavor. The fries were handcut as well, and reminded me of 5 Guys, which I love! The burger is typically in the $ 10-$ 12 range. During this special, you get the burger with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickle, and a side of Fries(or slaw) for $ 5, if you also purchase a drink. So the catch is, you need to buy a drink… but if you go with a Soda, you’re still only paying about $ 7 for what would normally be over $ 12… The burger is the best thing I’ve had here. Also, they have a tons of pale Ales on tap… which I’m less of a fan. I don’t like the strong hops, so I usually opt for the Reds. I wish they’d bring back the bourbon beer on tap. I loved that!

Great neighborhood joint that has never disappointed. Craft brews are plentiful, meal portions are hefty, and the service is friendly and efficient. The food is to be expected for pub fare. Far from gourmet, but satisfying enough and something for everyone can be found on their extensive menu.

I wanted my experience here to improve only because the honey chipotle sauce is really good. I’m a big dipper, lol. Unfortunately it didn’t work out that way. My first time I ordered a grilled cheese and truffle fries. Take out. The honey chipolte is delicious with the grilled cheese and fries. Everything was good except the cheese was barely melted. No big deal I melted it more at home. I’m very friendly with people handling my food and I can’t say that was reciprocated back to me when I picked up the food. I craved the sauce, so picked up the order again. They gave me the wrong order. I realized when i got home. The manager switched it out when I came back, I should of checked as well, but it was the only take out order there so I didn’t think about that. He said nothing, no apologies, no words… ok. One more chance, I just picked up my food. The fries are old, not hot, and soggy. They gave me a sandwich on a sub roll. NOTGRILLEDWHATSOEVER. MICROWAVED, OBVIOUSLYMICROWAVED!!! You can see in the pic the sides of the cheese were burnt… but the cheese on the inside wasn’t even close to melted. WHOMICROWAVES A GRILLEDCHEESE?! I’ll give buy a side of the sauce and make my own sandwich I’m done with this place!

Food was meh, service was meh. We had the southwestern egg rolls, nachos, and ahi tuna salad. Based on the reviews I was expecting adequate bar food, but the food felt like old food from a restaurant chain. The eggrolls were wise than Costco, nachos were nothing special, and the salad was overdressed and salty oddly enough. The service was slightly awkward as well. The burgers looked better though so maybe try those? Kids eat free on Tuesday. That’s a plus.

I’m pretty awful about checking-in, I’m afraid. I’ve been here 3x even though I’ve only checked in 2x. So far, so great! I’m becoming a regular at the B.C. So far I’ve had their chili, the arugula goat cheese salad(with chicken), a ruben with fries, a french onion soup and their signature coalition burger with bacon added. I have yet to be disappointed by this place! My bartender, C. J, was incredibly helpful and attentive. It was great to watch her look over to her customers regularly and try to anticipate their needs. A very nice touch. Many people would agree that other than their $ 5 Burger-n-Fries deal at lunch, their prices are a bit on the high side. I don’t disagree. But I’m willing to pay the few bucks more than a bar down the street that has cheaper food with a taste to match! You’re getting what you pay for at Brewer’s Coalition — great food and drink. I have only two regrets — not having started coming here sooner! And not saying hello to the beautiful woman I happened to sit next to tonight. I’m an idiot wrapped in a moron for not saying anything! But at least she’s helped me to pick my next items to try, as they looked delicious: a flight of beers and the bone-in chicken wings. But maybe I’m biased — she looked pretty eating them.

This place was mediocre at best with dismissive/nonexistent service. The nachos were literally the bottom dregs of the store-bought bag. Crumbs, with bland toppings(and those were hardly there). I can’t even believe I paid for that. Because our waitress was M.I.A., I had to keep shoving my way through the college lug-head crowd to get drinks for my table. Would not recommend this place for any reason, other than a decent beer selection, if you can even get to it.
