Charlie’s Restaurant

I was very hesitant about Charlie’s after reading the reviews, but decided to give it a go anyhow. Wow! Service was excellent. The food (we had bacon cheese burgers) was excellent. The salad bar was fresh and clean as was the restaurant itself. We had homemade onion rings as an app. Yum! Since we were parked for the evening (my husband drives a big rig) we came back in for dessert. The strawberry/​rhubarb pie warm with ice cream was absolute heaven! My husband had the French peach, it too was delicious. I highly recommend this place!

Ate here once with friends, i only ordered biscuits and gravy, they were awful. The only saving grace was our waitress, who was the picture of a fabulous server. I wasn’t going to eat the biscuits, but i also was not going to say anything about the quality, until she came around, she saw on my face that the food was gross, and insisted on taking it back. what came out was more edible. I will not return, but we tipped her the full amount of the check for being an awesome server. I hope she moves on to a better restaurant.

My husband and I never received our food. We waited for 40 minutes, then the manager came over and told us it would be a few minutes longer. She offered us free pie for our wait. We waited another ten. We walked out. Not sure what the problem was in the kitchen, but others around us received their orders.

Scheduled a family dinner at Charlie’s after my mother’s wake for 16 people. They neglected to tell us until they brought the checks around that there was a $ 30 fee for seating us in a separate room. There taco salad was a half a head of lettuce and a broken up hamburger patty in an overcooked shell. One of our party who at the meatloaf woke up severely ill in the middle of the night. Several folks tried the buffet, The pan ribs was never failed during our hour and a half’s day. It truly unpleasant experience on a taxing day.

Service was horrible here. Due to the horrible service I was late for a conference. The only redeeming factory was the food was pretty good and their milkshakes were amazing. I think of management did a better job with their employees this could be a place where people wanted to go when they are driving through Kansas.

As an Elite Unilocal member I take the review process seriously and understand how the reviews can impact a business. This is the first time I have ever rated a restaurant with 1 star and its not something I like doing.
Charlies is the restaurant located within the Newell’s Truck Plaza. I assume the majority of the restaurants business is truckers and families traveling along the I-​35 hwy. I was quickly greeted by the hostess and asked how many would be dinning. Since I was dinning alone, I was asked if it would be okay to seat me in the coffee shop which appeared to be where they seated truckers. I asked if I could be seated in the dinning room and was quickly told that I would have to wait for a table leaving puzzled since they had numerous tables open. I let the hostess know that the coffee shop would be fine.
The server was quick to greet me and ask what I would like to drink. She brought me tea as I had asked which had soured. I ordered a side salad with ranch and a BLT for dinner with fries. The salad was brought out rather quickly. The lettuce was starting to show rust spots, the cucumber was starting to get slimy. It took 35 minutes to get the BLT. When it arrived the fries were cold.
I would have thought that it was just a fluke, but the table on my left complained about the hash browns being cold. Another table sent his plate back as well.
The server offered apologies to each of us, but the whole experience was dreadful. Honestly, I could have stopped at Sonic or Braums and gotten faster service.

This is a joke. Salad was bad they had me change dinners three times only to be told they had the original thing I ordered. 5 minutes later they brought something completely different. If the waitress was as concerned with giving me good service as much bed with her friends in a different booth it would have been okay. Never again.

Can’t get a salad with your dinner unless waitress brings it to you. Can’t go to salad bar and get your own even though the salad comes from the bar if waitress brings it. For years the salad with a dinner was a trip through the salad bar. Also dinner says choice of potato. Ordered mashed and they brought fries. Not good if trying to eat healthy (less grease). Running out of places to eat in Newton kansas.

Charlie’s isn’t half as bad as the former reviews. Service was very good, friendly and helpful. Cheeseburger came out piping hot the fries were crispy and good.

This used to be a nice place. But after Mondays mess. I m not impressed anymore.
