Walked into Dre’s and met a friend at the small bar prior to dinner and a concert at the Theatre. The mixologist, I will call her that because she took her craft quite seriously, was pleasant welcoming and very good personality. She even introduced me to a new word«terpinator».look it up. Great vodka tonic with her own touch. We sat for dinner on schedule. I had fish tacos and an order of fries. Both very good. I would have enjoyed another taco as 2 was not really filling. The fries were very tasty. The had a duet playing some acoustic stuff… very good also. The only flaw, but not awful at all, was the table service was ok. Otherwise, I’d recommend for sure.

Such a steep decline in quality from what Andre’s(the previous iteration) used to be.

Dre’s seems to be the kind of place that people really want to like — especially up here in Sussex County. I know I wanted to like it after hearing good reviews from different types of people. The dining rooms look really great. The tiny bar area up front also looks like a great place to wait for your table. But what’s up with the Manhattan sized tables when it’s not necessary? Hummus wasn’t hummus or some cute riff on it. It was plain bean dip with burned pita. Sabra is better. Reviews on the salad are right — it was a good salad. And for five bucks I don’t care that I could have whipped the same thing up at home. Against my better judgement I ordered the baled mac and cheese with veal meatballs. I don’t know which part of the dish was drier and more tasteless. I barely are any of it. And I didn’t get it wrapped to go when the waitress asked. My wife had an Arctic char special that was actually pretty tasty. But the sautéed spinach is was to supposed to have with it was in fact raw. Wine selection looked really great. Service was a friendly team. I think I got Dre’s out my system.

We’ve been to the reinvented Dre’s at least 5 times and the same quality, creativity and taste are still found just in a slightly more casual environment with what I’d consider to be a gastropub style menu. We’ve had everything from oysters, soup, steak, fish tacos and specialty 5 course menus and I can say with confidence that all were delightful and delicious. Don’t hesitate to visit Dre’s and sample Andre deWaal’s eclectic menu.

Appetizer: The shrimp and grits was enjoyable. Nicely cooked, nice portion. For the entrée: A gray, chewy, funky-tasting skirt steak.(Frozen?) Presented pre-sliced, over a tangy ketchup-like sauce.Gross. Served on a plate straight from your great grandmother’s china cabinet. Service: Friendly staff, spotty service. For only three tables in the place on a Friday night, it was slow, slow, slow.

Went based on a rave review from friends who went when it was Andre’s. I knew it would be different but was hoping the food would be as good with the same chef. Waited a while for someone to acknowledge our presence. At least 4 servers walked by us when we first came in and no one even said hello. Our table was ready. The drinks were good. I had the penne with duck. It was yummy. My hubby had th eburger with fries. Certainly not worth the money. He said he prefers the burger from Salt. Their burger comes with fries. Here you have to pay extra– $ 6.00 extra. The dessert was such a disappointment. We both had the apple crisp. It was anything but. An apple crisp should be hot or at least warm. This wasn’t. And the brittle was close to pulling out a filling. I was hoping this would be a new destination restaurant for us. Don’t think we’ll be back. Not worth the ½ drive from our house. Fine if you live near by.

Finally got around to trying this place since the chopped the«An» off and now call it «Dre’s». It’s a more casual less uptight version of its former self, I guess? I started with a green salad with mustard vinaigrette. It was fresh, it was good, BUT It was something that I could make at home in 15 seconds. It was spinach and dressing plopped on a plate. The same dressing they sell at a local Hayek’s Market(uh…how about a new dressing guys?). For an appetizer a sad plate of salmon nachos came out. The chips were some kind of «homemade» fried nonsense, sprinkled with a pathetic amount of smoked salmon topped off with an even more pathetic amount of chipotle mayo. It was cold, bland, and 95% fried chips. «Real food… real bad». Main course was fish tacos. I’m a fish taco mad man. I know a good fish taco. These are not good. Might have been better if the soft tortilla was not burned black, which over powered everything else. I’m a pretty open minded, and would consider going back one more time to try some other dishes. In all fairness i’ve only been one time, and maybe I just ordered the worst three things on the menu. Who knows. I tried a bite of eggplant. It was ok, but i’ve had better at small pizza places for 1⁄3 the price. Dre’s could be good. It lacks imagination from what I can tell. I will update this review after my second visit.

My wife took me out for a early fathers day dinner date. I chose the new Dre’s.It was our first time since the new renovation. We got there at 5:10 to beat the rush of the sat pm rush. We have been to «Andre’s» many times over the years and have always walked away happy and full. Quality has always been on point, never a issue, and was the perfect place for the perfect meal for the perfect date. In fact I had my 40th birthday party there 8 years ago,“Just a cut above” with a price I didn’t mind paying for perfection. I was so fond of Andre’s that I chose them for christmas gift certificates for customers of mine over the years… Back to last night… We arrived and were greeted and seated with a pleasant and professional staff. The renovation looks really nice and feels inviting. I didn’t want a big meal so opted the shrimp fried rice appetizer and have always been a sucker for a great burger, So I ordered the Dre’s burger medium with hand cut fries. My wife ordered the soup of the day and the Dre’s burger medium. We waited for quite some time before the waitress came out and apologized for the delay due to a problem with the grill. The chef sent out a plate of 6 nachos with? on them and it was really good. Our apps finally came out and were awesome as usual. Finally after 45+ minutes our burgers came out and were not pleasant looking at all. Actually couldn’t believe they served them to us. They were like large meatballs ½ the size of the bun. Mine was medium well«being generous» and my wife’s was well done. My roll was totally burnt top and bottom and my wife’s not as bad but way over toasted. We didn’t want to send it back for fear of waiting another 45 minutes. So we chose to eat them and to our surprise they weren’t too bad«better then they looked» but not what I would expect from Andre for $ 10.50 per burger. I just expected the perfect burger. The fries were very good but not plentiful for $ 6.00.The home made ketchup was great and the pickles were too. I don’t mind the price, just wish the quality and quantity were there on these particular entrees .As stated the burgers were ok at best but have had way better burgers for less $ within walking distance. Nevertheless we will be back since this was the only questionable meal we have ever had here. I must say I do like the feeling and the ambiance of the new restaurant. For the record I have been promoting Andre’s for years and have always recommended Andre’s to anybody looking for a great place to get a upscale meal.

The chef is remarkable, but our food was ‘fair.’ The items we ordered had elements of creativity and delicious taste, however, other elements weren’t as detailed including store bought potato rolls, over salted sauce, and soggy vegetables. Very nice renovation, great service, and superb wine list. We will try it again.

Ate here several times before the renovation and found the menu creative and the atmosphere wonderful for adult time out. Post renovation the dining area feels packed, the menu is OK and there were many families with very young children. So, very nice for family time but not great for«date» night.
