Fabu Salon and Spa

Fabu is the best! I was lucky to find them! I went there after a string of terrible experiences in the Newton area (Salon Capri was awful), where some supposed master stylists and colorists did some terrible things to my hair in cut and color and I was beyond distraught. I had like five different colors in my hair and a very strange hole on one side the person had cut out of my hair. Thankfully I found Sarah at Fabu and have been going to see her ever since. She is a miracle worker and fixed all the damage the previous sylists had done (and that was a lot!). Now my hair is healthy and pretty, and I am happy! Sarah understands her clients, their personalities and what will work best in color/​cut that will be the most flattering for them. She also takes the time to listen, and to show you how to style your hair and has a lot of patience (I am a slow learner when it comes to hair stuff!). She truly is a master at what she does! The icing on the cake is that she’s a kind person with a great sense of humor and your experience of going to the salon is more like connecting with a friend, and not some sterile, unfriendly experience as I’ve found was the norm in other places in Newton. The desk staff is always very friendly and accommodating too. I highly recommend Fabu!

I started going here when I moved to the area and got a cut from Bianca. I loved my experience with her and I continue to go back. She’s given me great cuts and awesome Balayage highlights. I won’t go to anyone but her now. I would highly recommend Bianca!

Just astonishingly rude. Staff didn’t bother to actually address me. It was like they didn’t notice that I am a person, rather than, say, a wig or other object that they were working on.
At one point Robert (?the owner) and a receptionist had a snitty conversation about her work schedule over my head while he was working on my hair.
I paid and left with wet hair. No one seemed to notice or care that I didn’t stay to complete my scheduled appointment.

Great experience ! Always a nerve racking process finding a new hairdresser but what a find Bianca is ! She listened to everything I wanted and didn’t want. Hair came out gorgeous and I just made follow up appointment. The entire staff was very friendly. Would highly recommend this salon

I know NOTHING about hair. I put it in a ponytail most of my days because I need it out of my face. That being said, I do still like to have it look nice when I put some effort in. Sarah at Fabu is amazing. I wanted to do something different and fun but didn’t know what, so she helped me decide on something relatively low maintenance but still looked incredible. I’ve gotten so many compliments on the balayage! The salon is boisterous and lively which I enjoyed and Sarah really knows her stuff. Especially with my curly but fine hair (which I hate!) I really liked my experience and am returning for a touch up this weekend, can’t wait! :) Highly recommended.

Yesterday was my first time here. I had a 15 scheduled consultation with Sarah that I had booked a week prior at the receptionist’s suggestion. I arrive a couple of minutes prior to my appointment and proceed to wait for the next 20 minutes while Sarah never came out. I periodically got up to check with the receptionist who unapologetically told me that she was running late with the client before me. Unreal. I finally left and received a call later that day from the receptionist asking me if I wanted to come back now that Sarah had time. Ridiculous. Respect people’s time. I have no incentive to give them a second chance. This place has lost my business.

My first haircut in the Boston Area. I have been putting it off because I was nervous about finding someone that would cut curly hair well. I took the plunge and donated 11″ yesterday. Sara cut my hair and I am in love with the new style! It very well could be my favorite hair cut yet. She rocks for curly hair!
The atmosphere of the salon was great. A ton of repeat customers around and the staff was quite friendly. Will definitely be going back!

Loved the haircut that I got today. Place has a great atmosphere and even though it was my first time there all other customers were repeat customers! That says a lot about a place. Plus service was awesome and I look great! Bianca did a great job!

, and based on the great reviews there, I decided to book an appointment for Deva cut and a color. She is so incredibly knowledgeable about curly hair. Thought I started with her in my mid-​20s, I learned things I never knew about my hair! She taught me the proper way to wash it, style it, dry it, cut it — the right products to use, and the wrong products to use, etc. She knew immediately that I was using boxed hair dye — and taught me why it’s so terrible to use.
The prices are a little high for my comfort zone, but then, I’m someone who went from paying approximately $ 40 for a cut AND color (that wasn’t very good) to someone paying about $ 150 for a cut AND color (that’s amazing). I totally see the value, I just still have a hard time seeing my hair being worth the value. But, I keep going back every 2 – 3 months, just like she tells me!
I don’t totally disagree with the people who have said they haven’t had great experiences with the front, but for me, it’s fairly rare. I agree with what people have said — this is a service business. So I can’t fault the front desk for chatting with other customers. Sometimes I do wish they’d acknowledge me and get me checked in before they continued talking about whatever with the previous customer, though, so I could get out of the doorway.
I gave 5 stars for Sarah — I’d give 4 to the business overall.

Go to Bianca! She is the best, you won’t be disappointed ! She is a hair genius and always attentive and on time. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my hair but her!

I get facials here by Willow, she’s a skin god! My face radiates for weeks on end after a visit to her.
My one issue with this place is that the ladies in the jewelry and nails room are ALWAYS on their phones and are obnoxious and rude. They almost drive me out of the store because of how annoyed I get with them.

Robert is an amazingly talented hairdresser, $$$$, last time I was in I paid $ 165.00 for a hair cut (I have short hair) and its worth it. I was surprised to find out that males get to pay a fraction of the cost of what females pay. Why is that??? Can’t say it made me feel good. My male friend enjoyed a complicated haircut that took just as long to cut while paying only $ 35.00. Other then that, I adore Robert and think he is creative and talented for 10 people.

Love this place! I’m new to Newton and I got manicure, eyebrows and haircut — all absolutely amazing! Regular polish manicure lasted 9 days without a chip! Bianca did a fantastic job on my haircut and I love the brow shape too — the staff here are so friendly and welcoming and they use really high quality products — a tiny bit on the pricey side, but the value is definitely there. I’ll be back for sure.

I love this salon/​spa. Willow gives u movie star eyebrows and a spray tan to die for!!! Jessie at the desk is great and Robert is fabulous!

My hair dresser, Bianca, is wonderful! My mother, who has short hair and is very particular about her style, also sees Bianca and loves her!

Needed an updo for a wedding, Martha did an amazing job! I didn’t have a photo of what I wanted to get done, I just gave her an idea of what I was looking for and she accomplished it spot on. It came out better than I could have imagined. She was very nice and courteous. She worked quickly but I didn’t feel rushed at all. I received more compliments on my hair than I can count at the wedding. Overall, a great experience– will definitely be going back!

This a warm, welcoming salon. I love Raven at the front desk and Samara my haircutter does an outstanding job. I have very course frizzy hair and she consistently gives me the best cuts I have ever had in my life!

I have mixed feelings about this place. The massage therapist, Gabrielle, is the best I have ever had! The reasons I don’t like this spa is that they are really rude and clueless in the reception. They are always too busy to notice you when you come in. No one greets you or even looks at you. When they first opened I went in there to check it out and left after standing there for a full ten minutes with no one even saying hello can I help you? Don’t the owners realize that this is a SERVICE business???

I love this place.
I never got a haircut from Robert (the owner) because he is a little expensive for my budget but I have seen his work and he is excellent.
I got haircut from Cemata (spell?). She is fantastic.
The reason that I found this place was Keri. She does facial and waxing. I have never had such a great experience with anyone before. She is extremely respectful, clean and nice. And most importantly she does a SUPER GREAT job. I highly recommend her. If you go to her once, you will become a regular client.
If you become her client, she will make herself available to you. Very flexible and her main concern is that you walk out of the salon happy.
The price range is different but for Newton area I believe even Robert charges are reasonable.

THIS PLACE STINKS. They are all about the money w/​bad attitudes to boot. Got an expensive treatment there that didn’t work. When I went back to get it redone, they tried to sell me another service (without being transparent about it) and told me that the original treatment was «perfect». They also charged me for «long» hair when my hair only goes to my neck (check the picture). The funny thing is that my husband and I were regulars there — we won’t go back. There are better places to go for less money with better service and attitude.
