I’ve tried a decent number of sub shops in my life, but I’ve never come across a better spot than Guiseppe’s in Nonantum. I’ve been a customer there since I was a kid, and I’ve never in all my life had a disappointing experience with their subs. The cold cuts are always so moist and fresh that anything you get at a supermarket will never be able to appease you after you’ve tried theirs. The size of the subs are also very good, and they fill it with more stuff than those horrible national chains do. My favorites are the turkey or the Italian, but the meatball sub is also terrific.

Love the Italian. Great price and tastes great. They are right about the lettuce as well. Lettuce should not be on a cold Italian sub with tomatoes, onions, pickles, and hot peppers. That’s just wrong.

Amazing meatball subs and fantastic atmosphere! This place embodies the old school Lake I grew up in. It’s easy to miss the unassuming store front, so make the effort to track Guiseppe’s down.

3.5 stars. Everything was super fresh, sliced to order, and if you needed anything the nice woman would give you all that she had. Roast beef sub: super yum. Pickles and tomatoes were chopped perfectly. Italian sub: he was so happy. Total dive with great customer service and great quick sandwiches. Well done, little dirty sub shop.

Giuseppe’s is an all time favorite of anyone who has lived in or around Newton. This place has been around since well before I was born and hasn’t changed very much over the years. It’s this nostalgic feel that keeps the regulars coming back time and time again. «Hot Dog Thursdays» is all I have to say… Also their Italian and Meatball subs are AMAZING. Whenever my brother and I order from Giuseppe’s we always get at least two of each and usually still fight over them! LOVELOVELOVE this place. I truly hope it stays the same for future generations to experience.

Great food, all fresh(they make everything to order… so when you order turkey, they literally slice the turkey, etc.)… no frills… great service and everything we had was so good. We will go back.

I love this place. Their specials are fantastic too. I eat there at least twice a week. Italians are great, egg salad is great, everything is great! The bread is very fresh, and the people who run it are very friendly. I want to try everything at some point, but the Italian subs are so good, it’s tough to order anything else. All subs are under 6 bucks! Can’t beat it!

do they still use a cash box and not report their sales? they do a brisk business, but don’t record it…

Horrible! Got an italian sub and didn’t specifiy that I wanted«everything» nor was I asked and it came as meat on bread. That is it. Doesn’t «everything» mean it is on it unless you specify otherwise?!? Anyway, since I had just meat I could taste it well and it was not a good quality meat. Never will I go back. Waste of my $ 5.

Guiseppe’s has been under current management since about 1990. I first had the legendary meatball sub in 2002 when it cost $ 3. It has since crept up to $ 5.75 but as of this afternoon, it is still the best meatball sub around. Fresh sub roll absorbs the rich sauce and kind of blends together with the meatballs, which have a great texture and actually(contra some other reviewers) travel pretty well within a few miles. I haven’t tried too much else – the eggplant parm sub is fine, but not as uniquely great. Today my kids had some ziti with sauce that was clearly homemade.

they don’t put lettuce on their subs because lettuce wilts. they even have a huge cardboard sign on the wall displaying a head of lettuce, overlaid with the international circle/slash symbol for ‘down with’ well they need more poster board to start an anti-something campaign because my italian sub I got from here barely made it back to my office in 10 minutes before becoming a huge sloppy puddle of mess. teh sandwich itself, contents-wise, might have tasted good if the bread could stand up to it instead of dropping gooey dough balls on my lap plus, the guy after me had the pleasure of the shopkeeper taking my money then working on his sandwich without hand-washing or gloves. some places wouldn’t phase me if this happened — this place was dirty enough that if I were that guy, I would have walked out without sandwich.

I love this place. Ok, it took me three years to work up the courage to walk into what looks like a «locals only» place, but it is great. Like others noted the staff doesn’t seem that friendly — unless you’ve been buying awesome subs here since 1957. The people behind the counter know everyone that walks in. The subs are awesome. I always get an Italian sub with everything on it. The breads is as fresh as can be. Their home made pickled veges ate great. Stop in. My goal is to be a regular at some point.

Whatever you do, do not ask for lettuce on your sub. There’s a big sign on the wall and it appears that the font they used for it is a clear sign that one who would attempt to order such an accoutrement would probably result in a scolding. This modest establishment with lunch-only hours serves up some very good, cheap subs. They have specials every single day and I happened to order a hamburg beef & onions sub which also featured a nice gravy along with it. It was meaty, it was hot, it was oniony and it was delicious. The bread got a little soft and soggy because of the gravy though so it got a little though to eat at the end but it was well worth it. The large size sub was only… $ 5! Incredible deal, I almost felt bad paying so little for what I had. I also had some ketchup flavored chips with it which was interesting. The people running this blue-collar oriented place aren’t the friendliest people(at least they appear that way) but they do make good subs so who cares? You order at the counter and they prepare them in the backroom and one or two minutes later they bring it up the counter on a paper place marker and you can digg in. No plates here! I do intend to return for more in the future so I can experience more of their subs. If your in that area and are looking for a reliably good, affordable lunch, look no further, this is it right here. The street parking is plentiful too!

This is a no frills type of sub shop since it is true that lettuce is not on the menu. I have tried the meatball, chicken salad and Italian subs here and have liked all of them. You can tell that everything is homemade and there is usually what I assume is a husband and wife team working. They shape the meatballs like ovals so they fit better on the roll and I think that’s a great idea. The chicken salad is all white meat with some celery mixed in and not overflowing with mayo. They also sell Wachusett brand chips which I don’t see very often, so I like that they support their fellow local companies. There is a counter to sit at and eat, but I mostly get mine to go and for around $ 4 for a large sub I’m happy.

Great price, and good sandwiches. I just love how it looks inside. It looks like something out of a old movie. Italian sub is great. Tuna Snadwich is good. I love the mural on the wall that says«NOLETTUCE.» I like lettuce but I guess you don’t need it here!
