I had some difficulties breastfeeding my first child, and it did not last as long as I had hoped. I believed this was due to some questionable advice given to me by the lactation consultants and nurses in the hospital, as well as first time mom anxiety. When my second child was born, I was experiencing the same physical issues(pain, bleeding, etc), and decided that this time I would spend the money to get the support I needed. The woman I initially spoke to on the phone was extremely supportive and I was able to get an appointment with a consultant in 3 – 4 days. At the end of the day my baby and I didn’t have any real issue-it was just the initial discomfort that comes with breastfeeding, but I will say meeting with the consultant was invaluable for me in giving me the reassurance that I was doing everything right and the confidence to continue. They also introduced me to the best nursing pillow, which also contributed to my success. I breastfed my daughter for 18 months!

Dot and her team were life savers! After a week of incredibly painful nursing after being discharged home from the hospital I called around to several lactation consultants. I often left messages or was told someone could see me in a week… the last thing you want to hear when you are in pain! When I called lactation care I was able to speak with someone immediately(she was SO kind and understanding!) And they were able to squeeze me in that day. Since then I’ve received incredibly helpful check-in calls, have outreached for phone support several times and have been in for follow-up appointments for ongoing and other issues. Just knowing that I can pick up the phone and have a knowledgeable and empathic person on the other end has been such a help. Meeting with Dot has been incredibly helpful and encouraging particularly as I’ve battled several different and complicated breastfeeding issues. Cannot recommend them enough!

I had a recurring plugged duct problem and my daughter’s pediatrician recommended that I contact Lactation Care. They were so incredibly helpful and supportive. They made it so that I continued to breastfeed — I had been ready to just give up. I cannot stress enough how great they were — emotionally supportive and physically knowledgeable and helpful. There aren’t enough stars to give this place the review it deserves!!! 1,000 stars!

As a newly back-to-work mom, I forgot some of my pump parts at home. I found this group online and they were so nice! They had exactly what I needed and were super friendly. Hopefully I won’t forget anything else — but if I do — i will be calling them!

I was having SOMUCHTROUBLE breastfeeding by daughter when she was first born. When she was around 8 days old I stopped being able to get her to latch at all, but Dot and her team at Lactation Care truly saved us! We went in for a consultation and she was patient, kind, and totally non-judgemental. Thankfully, she was able us exactly how to get my daughter to latch, and my daughter is 5 months old and still breastfeeding exclusively! What’s more, the phone support that Lactation Care offers is phenomenal. It’s been four months since I was in their office personally, but I still call every few weeks with questions about pumping, bottle-feeding, etc. I feel 100% supported by everyone in the office!

Calling Lactation Care was one of the best decisions I made after giving birth to my son in October 2013. I was struggling with breastfeeding and on the fence about continuing. My doctor recommended that I call Lactation Care and a few days later I met with Dot in her comfy office in Newton. She showed me how both my son and I could be more comfortable during breastfeeding. She answered my many questions and spent more than two hours with my mother and I, offering comfort and calming my anxiety. Since the initial visit, Dot and her staff call me regularly to check in and answer any additional questions about nursing that pop up. This has been a lifesaver for me and I am so grateful. I highly recommend Lactation Care for nursing mothers who need a little(or a lot) of help adjusting in the beginning because it’s not easy and requires dedication and guidance.

We found out about this company from the BI(where they stop by in the recovery suites). Our initial call was for a product inquiry as we were having a terrible time breast feeding — bleeding, crusting, and we were exhausted on top of all that. The person on the phone(Sandra) gave free and helpful advice for half an hour and again later on. She stayed open(very) late to get us the pump. She saw that I looked in rough shape — I got offered water and food. She even offered to let me take a nap in the other room so that I could drive home safely! Even though she was already staying open late for us! I don’t even want to think about what would have happened to my wife if we had to delay another few days. Our other experience is that we ordered some spare parts but forgot to order everything. The owner gave us the parts we forgot — for free. With this company it’s not all about the sale — it’s about doing the right thing and doing right by the mother and family. Simply the best.

My experience with Dot and her team absolutely could not have been better. I called Dot late on a Sunday night(when they were obviously closed) as a mom to a one-week old who putting me through the ringer with nursing. I was exhausted, in pain and on the verge of stopping nursing all together. Dot called me back that night and got me in the very next morning. While there, she was so incredibly kind and so helpful. She made me feel like I could really do it and gave me so much more confidence. I’m still nursing nine months later, and there is simply no way that I would be here now without Dot. Her team called me at least five times to follow up with me, and sometimes they stayed on the phone with me for half an hour as I talked through any issues I was having. They are just wonderful and provide such a great service to new and vulnerable moms. I cannot imagine anyone on the team being rude; they are all saints in my opinion. I wish I could give them 10 stars for totally saving my nursing relationship. I can’t imagine not having this bond that I have with my son, and I almost missed out on it without their help. Also, please read the filtered reviews! They have 15 five star reviews, which are all completely warranted. I’m so sad that they are being penalized by one(completely out of character) review.

I had a lot of issues nursing with my first baby and was done by 2 months. I was nervous the second time around about going through the same problems but was determined to really give it a try. After I started experiencing similar pains(pinching, cracking, blistering, bleeding) with baby number two, I came to Lactation Care on a referral from a friend. My husband and I met with Dot, the owner, and she was amazing. The website says the consultations are for 90 minutes, but Dot was with us for at least a good two hours. When I went in, I had mastitis(but I didn’t know it — all I knew was that I felt miserable) and she detected it right away, called my doctor to have her order in a prescription, and she went to work immediately to get me a pump. And of course, she was a wonderful resource in helping me latch my baby on correctly and explaining what a good latch is and why it’s important for both the baby and me. A few hours after I left, Dot called to see how I was feeling and how the medication was working. I was so impressed with her genuine concern in me and my baby and how dedicated she was to help make nursing a reality for us. I’ve had a few questions since my consultation with Dot and so I’ve called back(for free!) and received additional help. I have never felt like my concerns and frustrations are minimized when I speak with the ladies at LC; they are empathetic and validate my issues. They have also called me just to check in and see how I’m doing, which is very impressive. The instinct and desire to nurse is natural, but sometimes actually doing it isn’t. If you have any questions, or have experienced pain or frustration with nursing, do yourself a favor and go to Lactation Care. You will feel safe, supported and able to continue nursing. I can’t say enough good things about Dot and her staff at LC.

I was referred to Dot through many other moms. I’m grateful they did. Dot is the kindest and wisest person. She listened patiently to my problems, listened attentively and truly cared to help. I worried I would never breastfeed successfully and happily and she made it happen! Her patience and knowledge are obvious each time she calls and througout the visits. She kept me longer than scheduled but did not charge more. I think she is one of the business owners who really care about her customers. I reccomend her highly and to anyone who wishes to enjoy the bonding and loving experience of nursing their child. I will now be one who refers many others, without hesitation, to Lactation Care.

I called a bunch of lactation consultants one panicked night as my newborn suddenly had new challenges breastfeeding. I got a call back from Lactation Care at 9am the next morning, and they were able to get me an appointment first thing the next morning. Calls later in the day confirmed they were the place to go — my OB, Beth Israel Deaconess, and another mom all recommended them. My husband and I met with Rachel. She spent three hours with us and was tremendously helpful. Things improved, but we had different challenges and question over the weekend. I left a message on their answering machine early Sunday morning(okay, it was 3:30am) expecting to hear back on Monday — but Dot, who owns Lactation Care, called me back on Sunday(!) and we went in to check my daughter’s weight. We also practiced feeding, Dot also provided some additional help and tips. We were not charged for the second visit. In the future, too, we can now call Lactation Care and receive support over the phone. If we need another consult, it will be half the cost of the initial consult. They were tremendous in helping my daughter and I to turn a corner in breastfeeding. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I was very pleased by Dot and the services she provided me and my baby. I was at my wits end and was considering giving up breast feeding at the time due to the issues I was having. She quickly diagnosed that my baby had a tongue-tie and assured me of how easy the issue was to resolve. She also gave me a number of really easy tricks that made a big difference. It wasn’t magic and it took us a while to get the hang of it, but had it not been for the compassion and advice she provided at the time, I am sure I would have given up breastfeeding. Eight months later, my daughter and I are still going strong. Thanks Dot for your help! Ps: I love my pediatrician and he recommends Dot over any other lactation consultant. I don’t have much to compare it to since she is the only person I saw but I think that says something when he is constantly recommending women and receiving feedback.

Unhelpful and rude!!! I was so disappointed with the service from Lactation Care after the birth of my child. Having come early, we unexpectedly needed to buy a pump which we did at the hospital(through lactation care). Upon bringing it home, we had problems with it and called them since they supposedly offer help(and I was told it had a warranty). Instead of really helping me(or telling me just to come in to get the extra connector tubes that had been ruined), they kept telling me to call the manufacturer. That’s all fine and good but when you need to pump, you can’t wait for a call back from a manufacturer, especially on the eve of a storm(as you can imagine this winter). They finally said to come in to get the tubes and CHARGED my husband because they said it had been user error. Well I’d been using a pump for over a week at the hospital and knew how to use a pump. It wasn’t user error. Based on how they sell themselves(promoting lactation, helpful etc), I would have expected them to give us the $ 15 tubing for free especially since she hadn’t mentioned charging us in the many times I had to call them. And since my husband was absolutely exhausted, he didn’t argue. I couldn’t believe how they essentially were taking advantage of new parents and in a lot of ways not really promoting themselves or the lactation experience. Despite the fact that they offer lactation services(and I’ve had many difficulties), I haven’t called back since and decided to find someone else who would actually help me. If you want someone who will help you through the breast feeding experience, find someone else!
