Outstanding pizza! Great(thin) crust, very fresh and tasty ingredients. If you’re around Newton, you have to try this place.

One of the best pizzas you can eat. Very tasty! If only the establishment was run half as well as the food tastes. Terrible service with little concept of customer. Once we waited 40mins to receive one of two of our dine-in pizzas, the second followed 10mins later. Called ahead the next time and was told the order would be ready in an hour for pickup. Turned up only to wait 30mins longer. Pizza only began to be made 1hr and 20mins post order. Other customers in store waiting shared similar complaints, with these met with a ‘so what’ response from girl behind counter. Suggest replacing phone/wait staff.

Eclectic pizza place that caters to the garbage pizza crowd. It seems that huge piles of toppings is their primary busienss. I got a slice of plain, which was good. This is a city cafeteria style pizza joint. There is an interesting history, wirth checking out.

This is my favorite spot for pizza in the Boston area. + great pizza. I usually get pepperoni mushroom. Thin crispy crust, ample toppings, good ratios. + good wings! I don’t even like wings and these are awesome(sacrilege, I know) + of all the things I crave from Max and Leo’s it’s actually… a salad. They have this perfect salad with arugula and grilled corn and shaved cheese with this perfect vinaigrette. I’m craving this salad right now. — the lines and wait for pizza can be a little ridiculous. It’s okay though because I’m usually desperate for it. — it’s cramped so better for takeout, which is a shame because they have decent beer in house. Solid pizza, best anywhere around here.

Tried Max and Leo’s for the first time and ordered pick-up(they don’t deliver). I ordered the Blue Ribbon pizza; it has pulled pork from Blue Ribbon on it. The pizza was delicious! Totally worth it to go and pick it up.

During peak hours, the wait time can be a bit long but SO worth it(as are the prices). It is a beehive of energy and the servers multi-task like nothing I’ve ever seen!

i would have given them five stars but the last time we got take-away from here(i kid you not) i bit into a lump of coal on my pizza. didn’t help that the very same slice of pizza ALSO had an olive pit that i bit into. yikes! i’m including a pic — because i know this sounds ridiculous. we love the pizza so it’s hard to complain — but as there’s no email address on the max & leo’s website i figured i’d share my feedback on Unilocal

So disappointed. I live two blocks away from Max & Leo’s and have heard great things. The bottom of our pizza was burned so badly that I pulled the toppings off and just ate them that way. It’s rare I give a one-star but it sure put a damper on our night when we got home with the pizza and it was so burned.

Just west of Boston, sits the tiny Max & Leo’s Artisan Pizza. By being pretty popular and only having some bar seating and a table or two, Max & Leo’s is definitely not for the claustrophobic. However, their pizza is worth it if you are lucky enough to get a seat, and they offer carry-out as well. Plus, they can take your order while you wait for a seat, and their coal-fired oven cranks out pies pretty quickly at 900 degrees. Max & Leo’s coal-fired oven creates a charred edge to their pizzas’ crust. However, the rest of it is soft and moist, making their crust cooked very well in my opinion. The sauce is somewhat sweet, and their meats are salty and full of flavor. Overall, the pizzas at Max & Leo’s are thin and greasy just as pizza should be on the East Coast, and I enjoyed them.

Completely blew away my expectations. Saw this place on Phantom Gourmet and I had to try it. Small, cozy interior that definitely would be packed to the brim on weekends. Food was outstanding. Charred wings had great flavor and were so fresh and juicy. Blue Ribbon Pizza with BBQ pulled pork was equally as amazing. Thin crust, slightly burnt and crispy – cooked to perfection. Best pizza I’ve had in the Boston area. Great food, atmosphere, and service for such a tiny joint.

There’s a lot of pizza in and around Boston. A few good spots here and there, but mostly bad. Max and Leo’s is some of the best pizza the Boston area has to offer! The topping combinations are perfect; nothing over the top and well balanced. Plus the crust is excellent, nice and well done, crispy. I’m not around newton as much as I used to be, but when I am, this is typically high on my list of places to eat. Total hidden gem!

I was there for lunch, and was SUCH a fan of the 10″ margarita pizza, and their coal fired wings. HOLYCOW. They were habanero honey wings, and they were AH-MAZING. It was a good thing I was eating alone because I was eating with my hands, and grabbing every bit of habanero honey with my pizza crust. It was finger licking good! I had to go wash my hands twice afterwards, I kept feeling the habanero underneath my fingernails. WORTHIT!

So great… love the pizza and sometimes the apps… the pizza isn’t your normal brand pizza. it has some great variety with a fancy touch. Place isn’t huge. and can be a little bit more pricey than normal pizza… but well worth it. Love doing half and half pizzas, so i can get some other tastes. and as long as the base sauce is the same they allow it… which is AMAZING :) No delivery. but so worth the pickup!

This place is a small hidden gem in newton! We tried it because of all the positive reviews and it did not disappoint. The pizza is fresh and very tasty! So far we haven’t gotten to try anything else besides the pizza but I’m looking forward to trying the rest of their menu. The place is very tiny though, seating for 8 – 9 people max. So it might be better to get it to go.

Phenomenal pizza in an unexpected part of Boston. The establishment is very small(some bar space and two tables for two people), so get there early or go for take out. We ended up getting two pizzas: the Dante(meatballs and red peppers) and the Marley(arugula, shaved Parmesan cheese, and drizzled balsamic vinegar). Both were very good, with a slight edge to the Dante. Definitely would go again!

Max and Leo’s is my go-to now when asked what the best pizza in town is. It is a tiny place with maybe eight seats total, but I consider that an asset because every seat gives you a view of the oven. That oven, by the way, is screaming hot and puts a tremendous flavor into the springy dough. And they use the oven to churn out astonishingly good build-your-own nachos. The nachos and the pizzas prove, as always, that great ingredients and a high heat oven are the two most important factors in an exceptional pizzeria. And Max and Leo’s is exceptional.

Delicious Pizza Real coal fired pizza. Max and Leo’s is a tiny pizza shop in Newton right outside the big city. I advise that you should plan on waiting if your going to eat in because the place is lucky to seat 20 people and it’s always packed. For good reason because they are pumping out a super quality product. We ordered a simple pepperoni pizza and the coal fired wings. The wings were exceptional with caramelized onions on them right out of the super oven. Next is the pizza. My goodness absolutely delicious. I like a coal fired charred pizza so it may not be for everyone, but if you do you will definitely like this. Lastly, we grabbed a couple of beers which were reasonably price and the service was great seeing they don’t have a lot of room to work with. Proclamation: Max and Leo’s is in the top 5 of pizza options in the Boston Area. Thanks

This may be the one think I truly enjoy about coming to Boston(Newton). The staff here are just awesome and I mean the entire staff from bar to kitchen you are always taken care of with no issues. For such a small place they do a ton of business and for not being a local, I’ve seen some of the same people a few times. If you are unsure what to get and Frazier is working have her split a pizza and pick for you. You can’t go wrong. The crust is everything it should be and the toppings are just enough to allow the pizza to cook properly. Beyond the pizza, the wood fired nachos are awesome. Who doesn’t love a bit of char on their chips? I just ate there and am sitting in the hotel across the street and can’t wait to go back this week before I go home.
