Second night back on the East Coast in seven years and I’m really glad I found this. This Mediterranean food rivals or betters the best restaurants I’ve eaten at in the Middle East. Will be returning.

Excellent food! Looks unassuming from the outside, but the atmosphere is actually really nice inside. Great hummus, delicious babaganoosh, lots of vegetarian options! A hidden gem in Sussex County!

Was in town for a business trip with my fiancée and I wanted something good to eat. Saw the usual chains in the area and lots of pizza and delis, but I came across Selda on Unilocal the reviews sounded solid, I like Mediterranean food, my fiancée is vegetarian and they had veg offerings so we went. It was a little out of the way, but it was so worth it! I got a gyro platter and she had the vegetarian platter. Both were amazing, the pickled slaw that came with both was delicious, my meat was charred and spiced perfectly, the baba ganoush was the best we’ve ever had. We ended the meal with Turkish tea and baklava, both also amazing. We sat for a bit and talked to the chef/owner Mustafa about he food and other things. He makes everything on site by himself. It’s a one man show there. You can tell he takes a lot of pride in his food. On our way out he gave us some complementary lentil soup, definitely one of the best I’ve had! We told him we enjoyed it so much that we would be back before we left for home… we went back. This time I ordered the chicken sote, spicy and perfectly seasoned. My fiancée got the vegetarian platter again. If you’re ever in the area and want some excellent homemade meals, you have to check out Selda. The food is amazing, and Mustafa is a really nice guy. If I’m ever in that area again I’m going to be sure to go back.

Happy tummies for the whole family! A wonderful place, authentic cuisine, warm atmosphere. A tiny little place with big flavors! I trusted the other Unilocal members and ordered the lemonade for the whole family — what a refreshing treat! Everything was freshly made, you can taste the difference. You can phone in your order and be ready to eat when you get there. Even the cheeseburger my son ordered(sigh…) was delicious, freshly made. Just go and thank me later ;-)

I’m with the others on here who say this place doesn’t get the credit it deserves. First time I went there on a whim to see what it was like. I remember way back in the day when it was the LunchBox deli and had always enjoyed that place. So I stop in there and No one is there. Normally, That’s a bit of an alarm but I’m in Newton of all places. I don’t consider most of newton well cultured or, even slightly for that matter. In Newton I expect this place be unnoticed and I expect Mcdonalds to be packed. This place was incredible. I walked in there and said«You give me something good». The guy laughs and says simply. «Gyro». I say«Ok» and asks if I want some sort of rice dish or fries. I get the rice not knowing what to expect and he rings me up. 5 something. Really? Im kinda shocked and realize I forgot to get a drink and run over to the cooler and grab a can of coke. «How much»?. He told me don’t worry just take it. So 5 dollar meal and free drink Im set. He then says you want another drink you take it. 2 drinks for free. Im really kind of astounded and the guy says«You try lemonade. Home made by me.» He proceeds to pour a glass from this big water cooler in which i can clearly see lemons floating in the top. Gives it to me and smiles. Without a doubt the best motherfucking lemonade I have ever had. Period. Not too tart, Not a bag of sugar with lemon flavor. I say again. BESTEVER. The food is same way. Incredible, Incredible Gyro. The rice I was expecting to be hot or spicy wasn’t, to my pleasant surprise. Just very big and very filling. I take it upon myself any time I’m in the area to stop there literally every chance i get. I’ve been there at least 3 different times just for the lemonade even if I’m in a hurry or not hungry. This guy who runs the place is deserving of the highest praise I can give. This is by far my favorite discovery I’ve encountered. I Love this place. A Million times recommend.

This place looks so tiny from the outside and looks a bit scary as well at least to my mid west native self. And the parking isn’t the best and the location is kinda akward. But the food is AMAZING. The chef is great and the falafel is honestly the best thing I have ever eaten. I love this place the service was great the place is so nice once your inside. We had the stuffed grape leaves as well and they were really great. I can not get over how wonderful this place actually is.

We ordered the babaganoush, sauteed vegetables with yogurt and spicy chicken. The food was great. The owner came out in the middle of the meal and gave us a wonderful bowl of lentil soup, on the house. My girlfriend and I both had a wonderful meal.

Located in the space once occupied by the Lunch Box Deli and Diller Deli before that, this place is great. The owner, chef, and man of many hats is accommodating and pleasant. He is personable and the food is outstanding. We began with Hummus which was fresh and delicious and I had to try the lentil soup. The soup was outstanding, both creamy and full of flavor. I decided to have the lamb kebobs and my wife had a gyro. These items were equally as good and the gyro was more than needed for one person. The lamb was done to my liking of medium rare and we shared a bottle of wine with the meal. This was a great find and is an outstanding addition to the town. The place will not wow you with a lavish ambiance, but it is comfortable and inviting. You will not be disappointed.

I have been going here every weekend for about a year. The food is AMAZING! Seriously, delicious. The owner is a great guy who will customize dishes for you and will do his best to accommodate you and any requests you may have. I regularly get the chicken platter or chicken sandwich — both are fantastic. The gyro is made completely from scratch and absolutely delicious. Lentil soup is a great way to warm up on a cold day! I can’t say enough good things about this place — TRYIT. Skip the pizza or chain restaurants in the area and give this place a shot. It’s a small restaurant that doesn’t look like much from the outside, but I guarantee if you try it out once, you’ll become a regular.

Date of Visit: 6÷19÷15 Atmosphere: Quaint & casual. Nothing fancy. Food: DELICIOUS and exactly as most of the other Unilocal members on here described it. We ordered a gyro platter and vegetarian platter. The servings were plentiful and the food was very flavorful and fresh. Service: Friendly and sincere. Other: BYOB Final Thoughts: GOHERE! I feel like this place doesn’t get the customer traffic it should! We need to keep this place around!!! Always blows my mind that Applebees and Friendly’s have full parking lots and places like this struggle to fill their tables. Really, go here and eat… now!

Unilocal reviews steered me here despite the fiancées concern when she saw the place. She had gyro I had the torpedo. Most flavorful gyro meat ever! Wish they gave more tzaiki. The pickled veggies let me know they were very authentic. Try it you won’t be disappointed.

I got the hummus appetizer and almost licked the plate clean. Awesome falafel. Everything’s fresh. Went for lunch and can’t wait to go back for dinner sometime.

Loved this place. I got the vegetarian platter that came with falafel, grape leaves, rice, and what was 100% the most delicious hummus I have ever had. The lady friend and I were there at dinner and had the place to ourselves, wasn’t sure about it from the outside but the décor is very nice, great place to sit with even better food. We will be back.

I have only dined at Selda Mediterranean grill once and I have to say that it is a great restaurant! I had Turkish tea, lentil soup, and the vegetarian platter. The food is fresh and bursting with flavor! As for the staff, they are friendly and courteous. I can’t wait to go back again to try some different items on the menu! This a great restaurant and I highly recommend trying it out! The baklava is also a must try-I had taken an order home to have later and it was outstanding.

This place is a gem. The owner is very friendly and accommodating, offering us turkish tea and(delicious) lentil soup for no charge while waiting for our take out to be prepared. We ordered the babaganoush and grape leaves as appetizers and the Adana kabob and the chicken and beef entrees cooked in sauce with vegetables. All were very tasty and filling, and the babaganoush is some of the best I have ever had. Make sure to order some of the bulgur rice as well. You can’t go wrong with the rice pudding for dessert either. Please do not be discouraged by the unassuming location — if you go you are sure to get great food and service at a very reasonable price!

Hey Newton! Get out and try this place! The service is good and the food is the real deal. Everything is home made including the Baklava! I got the Adana Kabob(beef and lamb) which came with plenty of sides. It was very balanced and delicious. But don’t feel like you have to eat the whole thing in one sitting! Don’t pass up the lentil soup if they have it. It’s possibly the best I have ever had.

This place is absolutely amazing. It’s unassuming from the outside but that only adds to the absolute charm on the inside. The food is simply amazing. Not over complicated. Very straightforward clean dishes which are filling and eye catching. The service is great. Very informative and always super friendly without lingering over the meal. Recommended very highly. Try the vegetarian meal. It’s not on the menu yet but it’s a great filling dish. Also Turkish coffee is the best I’ve ever had and the baklava is heaven. I hope the locals are keen enough to become regulars and appreciate one of the only unique restaurants around.
