Temple Shalom Nursery School

My son has been at TSNS for 3 years and we both love it. The curriculum is extremely well thought out and purposeful. Each afternoon the teachers send an email detailing the activities of the day and the skill that each activity targets. (sharing, letter/​number recognition, language, imagination, gross/​fine motor, etc.) This communication provides a window into our children’s day and helps parents to engage them in conversation after school. I find that these emails are much more effective than a «communication board» for parents to read outside the classroom during the rush of drop-​off and pick-​up. The school also does a great job at imparting Jewish values including kindness to others, a sense of commitment to community service and an awareness of the world around us. This includes collecting tzedakah and deciding on where to donate it at the end of the year, classroom recycling, and a recent canned food collection followed by a field trip to a food bank. I am amazed by the ability of the Director to manage all the administrative, marketing, etc. demands of running a school, maintain close involvement in the classroom, nurture children and parents alike, and continue to research and develop innovative new educational programs. For example, in the past couple of years the school has introduced a focus on the importance of nature exploration and outdoor imaginative play which has decreased significantly amidst over-​scheduling of activities and increased use of electronics among children. Also, the director and one of the teachers just returned from Israel where they visited various educational sites and brought back some great new ideas to incorporate into the curriculum. Lastly, I have appreciated the fact that the school encourages a sense of community by bringing parents and families together with parent coffees, family holiday programs, Moms’ nights out, etc. Overall I feel that Temple Shalom Nursery School has nurtured my child and started him on a lifelong adventure in learning. I highly recommend it!

We love this school! We joined without being very religious at all — in fact, my husband is not jewish. The curriculum is strong, the teachers are incredibly dedicated, the director is very warm and the community is extremely welcoming. they’re creative, genuine, open-​minded and flexible. my daughter joined the class mid-​year and immediately felt at home. my son is starting in the fall. and even after a move, despite being an long commute for us, we chose to stay with the nursery school.

Great preschool program. Staff is amazing as well as their students. Very good atmosphere and family like relationship. They bake, sing, learn and play together. Their art program is diverse and interesting. Healthy and safe environment. What else would you like for your kids?
