For the area — this is the best you’re going to get for breakfast/brunch. At least that is what we were looking for when we stumbled upon Jake’s. I appreciated the variety of menu items and the fast and friendly service. The food was really nothing special. I’ve worked at several brunch restaurants and love to go out for a good breakfast — and was excited at the idea of finding something new. The food was disappointing, though. Everything came out SO fast and the restaurant was packed — leading me to believe they have a lot of things pre-made(including my boyfriend’s cold scrapple). I had the porkroll benny — hollandaise was flavorless and boring(hollandaise is supposed to be the best part!). The highlight of the meal was probable the banana bread french toast — it was delicious but still I wasn’t blown away. Won’t be going back.

10am Friday a week before Christmas. Packed and a 5 minute wait. Staff was rushing but nice and helpful. Good size menu and fair prices for Newtown. Basic décor — felt homey and comfortable enough. Mostly older crowd, partly given the time, though a few small groups of HS students were spotted. Food arrived fast and portions were spot on; not over the top like some breakfast joints throw at you. Homefries were awesome. OK coffee(Lucas; expected better taste). Very good omelette. Wife enjoyed the large waffle well enough.

great breakfast spot in Newtown. Gets very crowded on weekends for brunch, as can be expected. They have a bar area which is fist come fist serve that tends to turn over quickly. We opted for that instead of waiting for a table since it was a long wait. Cheap good breakfast! I had a spinach, mushroom and swiss omelette with hashbrowns for $ 6.50. Coffee was decent as well. Would definetly recommend it and would return!

So I have been in jakes about 12 times in the last year, normally I would not do this but I have to say the service was absolutely awful tonight the guy was rude laughing my kids question regarding milk which he has a allergy to, which was the first mistake, 2 we ordered our food and he seemed a bit angry when we asked what comes with the platter, now any server out there should know you ALWAYS should know what comes with the meal. THEN he rolled his eyes when he walked away. OK man I get it we asked some questions that doesn’t mean. You roll your eyes. Are food came out and there was things missing and we asked for them he said you never asked me that. I said yes we did he said NO instead of arguing just say I’m sorry and go get it. Needless to day the worst dinner ever had. I will never go back to that run down unprofessional place.

After an early morning meeting on a Saturday I decided that at noon I wanted to have breakfast and in Newtown Jake’s Eatery was a logical place. Well it seems when a person eats alone they are treated differently. This amazes me because they don’t know if the person eating alone is a millionaire and the table of 4 are dine and dash people. As a matter of fact while sitting waiting an unusual long time for scrambled eggs I overheard my waitress(who wasn’t concerned about me) say that a table didn’t leave enough money for the bill. Again if I had been there with others our breakfast comes out in 15 min. Well after about 20 – 25 min my breakfast finally got to me. No apology for being late. Cold eggs & runny, cold home fries, warm pancakes. Now let me also mention that at 12:30pm on a Saturday the place was far from busy. Now when asked if things were OK I did repeat OK but my waitress just didn’t catch on. She should have realized that I was going to be the one to leave her a good tip(20%) because I always give the benefit of the doubt and know that wait staff work hard. Most of the time I do get good food at Jake’s and maybe as a sole diner I was perceived as not really caring how I was treated. I am sure that this establishment is not the only one that may think this way, but I knew that I was going to Unilocal this shabby treatment and basically warn other establishments to treat sole diners as if they were food critics. For this reason I have to give Jake’s 2 stars. I will be back but they should realize that most upset diners would just leave and use the«rule of 10» and never return.

My parents and I stop into Jake’s quite often and their food is consistently good. We have only been there to order from their breakfast menu, so I can’t speak for their lunch or dinner options, but they do serve up some solid breakfast food at a very reasonable price point. They were busy every time we went, but the staff was always friendly and attentive. Portions are quite large, and it seems very clean as well. Most diners and restaurants I’ve been to for breakfast often burn the toast or potatoes every once in a while, but that has never happened at Jake’s so far. Everything was cooked perfectly every time we’ve been there :) Nice little spot for the neighborhood regulars. Today(Wednesday) I stopped in for a late breakfast with my mom, and even on a weekday it was very busy. Always a good sign when it’s loved by so many people!

Never disappointed here! Clean, fast service and friendly atmosphere. We usually do brunch here and the portions are just right. Flavorful food! The selection for breakfast is a little on the small side, but they are willing to customize and it’s good for your basics. Hubby had the Hungry Person’s breakfast and I had a build-your-own omelet. I want to try dinner here sometime bc the menu and prices look intriguing!

Let me preface this by saying we are frequent customers of Jake’s. Tonight’s meal was terrible. Mostly inedible. I ordered the pumpkin soup and the stuffed meatloaf based on our waitresses recommendation. My husband ordered his usual favorite sourdough chicken. The soup was so thick it was not really a soup. More like whipped pumpkin. I could not eat it. My stuffed crust meatloaf came out so Burt and dried. The pea pods were also burnt. The scalloped potatoes looked normal however. A bus girl walked by and I told her the meal was not edible. She took it away. For several minutes we sat with no one returning our any idea what had happened. Our waitress returned with another plate, slightly less burnt and less dried out. More edible but not much the top was still pretty black. In addition the Peapods were the same consistency. Our waitress apologized and did make some excuses for the for the lack of quality control. In addition, the sourdough chicken was not at all up to the usual standards. The spinach was on top of the chicken not underneath the breasts. His Peapods were burned too. Our waitress was sweet. However, I told her how much of a disappointment this meal was. She should have offered to take something off the bill. We did not ask. However this review speaks for our experience and I cannot recommend this restaurant at this point in time. It makes me very sad as it was once our favorite.

I had not been here for more than a year because the last time I went, there were lipstick stains on my mug, the hot cereal was cold and the fruit was inedible. If I could give a zero for the hostess and for overall service, I would. After waiting for 25 minutes to get seated, we were told we couldn’t get a table because the fourth person hadn’t arrived. We knew she was in the car but then had to pretend that she had changed her mind. We were shown to a table of four but then they grabbed away the fourth place setting(paper napkin and fork). Before they seated us, the hostess told us that we should be prepared to order immediately, which we were. Unfortunately the server did not appear for about 10 – 15 minutes. My friend was give the wrong order, and the plates were cleared without even asking, when there was food left on them. The straw that broke the camels back was, we were asked to leave because supposedly there were people waiting for our table, even though another table of four was available. There are definitely two better breakfast places within a couple of miles, Pat’s and Moishe’s and they will be getting all of my future business.

Exactly as the 3 stars says, Jake’s is ok. The place is decorated like the dining hall at your grandparents old age retirement home with just the most bland looking walls and furniture I think I have ever seen other than said retirement home. Food is pretty much the same way, just bland. I got a basic egg and home fry breakfast and the potatoes had zero flavor to them. Pluses include reasonable prices, friendly staff, quick service, and bottomless coffee. That’s about all I got to say on this place.

Since it’s virtually the only place for breakfast, we tried again. The place was busy, but after waiting for over 40 minutes for eggs and bacon we were told ‘someone else got our breakfast’ ??! And as usual food was fair at best. That’s it. I cook before I go back.

Great dinner tonight with 3 kids. We loved the ribs. It was a little chilly when we came in, but we requested they adjust the air conditioning and they did so immediately so we were very comfortable for the rest of the meal. Very good selection and quality for the price.

My Mother in law and I tried Jake’s for the first time today for breakfast. I was very impressed. The food was fresh, tasted very good, arrived quickly, and was piping hot. The waiter was attentive and very polite. We both had omelettes, with homefries, rye toast and coffee. We both enjoyed the food very much, and felt the price was fair. We will be coming back for more breakfast since this is the best breakfast I had in Bucks County, but I also want to try Jake’s out for lunch and dinner. I would give them a high recommendation on the breakfast.

Great service, plentiful hot coffee & you are not rushed so breakfast can be leisurely. That said, today’s pancakes looked undercooked, bloated & were basically tasteless. I noticed my companion ate his eggs but only picked a little bit at the other things on the plate. I wondered why the place is always packed with food like that. Need to find somewhere else in the area for breakfast with friends.

Great place for breakfast and lunch, but not dinner. The sandwiches, pancakes, eggs and soup from this place is great!! They have the best eggs Benedict around. Additionally, the staff is friendly and the prices are affordable. I am a huge fan of this place!! The even offer a lighter choice menu. I am totally a fan of this! We will be back!

Ok, I like this place, it’s convenient, have great specials, but they really have one thing that earned them only 3 stars. Their home fries are like mush. Don’t know where the cook ever learned how to cook them but on my recent visit they were so discussing after one bite that was it. When the server picked up my plate, I was asked if I didn’t like the home fries. That was very observant of the server and was really appreciated by me. When I told her that they were like mush, the server responded that she has told the cook about this but it still hasn’t changed. I looked around and at several tables near me the people didn’t eat all of their home fries… Maybe the management needs to step in.

I think that some critics had a really bad experience. I am rating Jake’s on a consistently pleasant breakfast experience. It is not 4 star gourmet. It is not the best breakfast place in the world. However, it is the best and most reasonable diner style breakfast joint we’ve found in the Newtown area. Here’s what I like: Nice menu with a variety of sweets(pancakes, waffles, muffins) Plenty of egg dishes(the usual diner style combos, however no hard boiled if you can believe it) Combos that allow you to have literally 1 egg, 1 piece of meat, 1 pancake or waffle Very pleasant and attentive staff. For those of us who truly want a single serving and not a «diner style» plate of food that could actually feed 3+ people if you kept to actual portion sizes, this is a good choice. If you want to mix things up and you usually go to the Eagle Diner, try this place.

Jake’s Eatery on Cambridge Lane replaces several Indian Restaurants that occupied this tiny strip mall about a quarter mile west of Sycamore Street in Newtown. I have had lunch there several times, often choosing to sit at the bar rather than wait for a table. As I am usually eating alone, the stool is a good option, however, there always seems to be some confusion in the staff as to who will provide service to me. Everyone is friendly, but as with many wait people, they avoid eye contact as much as possible and thus are not always attentive to their customers. This happens repeatedly at Jake’s, and thus the time until my order is taken, served, and the bill arrives, adds unnecessarily to the time in-house. The food is all decent to good. Most is fresh and tasty. I enjoy their burgers, which are simple and can be customized to taste(sauteed onions, mushrooms, and jalapeño chilies, please). The fish sandwich is also good. The place is clean and bright, and always has a nice crowd. Many business meals, and post-workout meet ups. I do miss the Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan, but it has not turned up on the menu yet.
