This is honestly the best DMV I have ever visited. I’ve dealt with DMVs in NJ, NY, PA and VA and this is by far the most efficient and most pleasant experience. I’ve been twice and the wait has never been more than a few minutes. In NJ, PA and VA, I needed to plan my whole day around waiting at the DMV, often in lines that weaved around the outside of the building.
When you first walk in, there is someone at the information desk to ask what you need. They then help you fill out the right forms and have the right identification ready before you step up to the window. Everyone I dealt with was very nice.
Tip: Use the entrance on Ashland Ave so you’ll go right to the DMV. If you go through the main entrance, you’ll have to navigate your way down to the basement.
Parking: The DMV building is situated around a bunch of one-​way streets, so that makes it a little hard to navigate. There is a small parking lot where the building is, but it’s often full. Plus, you can only enter the parking lot from Portage Road. There’s a gravel parking lot on 11^th street that you can also use, plus street parking on some of the smaller side streets.
