Great food and treat you like family. If you are offended by honesty or sarcasm, go home and have oatmeal.

Very disappointing for being one of the few places in the area for breakfast. The food is good but the service is by far sadly lacking. We were not greeted until after being seated around ten minutes and our greeting was the waitress throwing a menu on the table saying«have a menu» and walking away. About 5 minutes later the very nice busboy came and brought us coffee. 10 minutes later the waitress came and we told her we wanted to do a to-go order. Her response was«good luck!» and walked away! We thought maybe she misunderstood us that we were picking up an order. So we caught the busboy walking by and clarified that we still needed to order. He walked over and told her. It didn’t make a difference. She came back about another 10 minutes later and told us «you’re going to be waiting a while». I responded saying«we are aware so we ordered coffee». She said«okay» and shook her head irritated. She took the order and food came up in about 25 – 30 mins. She brought our bag over, dropped it on the table with the check and walked away. Not sure what to think about this experience but probably the worst I have ever had. Too bad because the food is good. Maybe the key is just to order everything to go.

Hard to find. No sign out front(except the old Post Office sign on the building), but the food was great. Got an avocado, bacon, and jack omelette. Very fresh, not greasy, and the service was excellent. Highly recommended and if I’m in Lake County again soon, I’ll definitely stop by.

This little diner café is worth stopping for breakfast! Clean prompt attentive service. The food was fresh and tasty and very generous proportions. I had pancakes short order with eggs and bacon and it was all excellent. The BLT was may be the best ever, says my wife.

We ended up here on Saturday morning when the pit stop was closed. And, I am so thankful we did. The food was your standard diner food and the coffee was refilled promptly. The greatest thing about this place is their prices! Really low prices for generous servings.

Every new restaurant I eat at I always try the chicken fried steak. By far in my 49 years of eating and cooking blows the others out of the water. Steak is tenderized, breaded, seasoned and cooked in house, trust me you can tell. Gravy is always fresh, not canned like everywhere else. Overall the best ever. If your a chicken fried steak fan and haven’t tried it your missing out big time. Service is good waitress is ALWAYS nice and the cook knows how to do his magic. Its big time country and the food backs that up. George Koumarianos Jr

I would give this place 1 star but my breakfast was good. That country gravy on my Chicken Fried steak was good. BUT the service was horrible! the waitress is this surly old big white lady that is straight rude. when i walked in with my family i felt like i was in one of those movie scene where u walk into a bar and everyone stops there conversations and stares at you as you walk in. This place is a scene out of Deliverance. it truly is locals only. I remember the lady getting mad because we had a party of 12 the restaurant was half empty. then she said«we shouldn’t have big parties» omg lady do you not like money? do you live off attidude and anger? what restaurant doesn’t like big parties? the staff is rude. i will never go back i dont care how good that gravy is!

I will only speak about the service. Food was okay, but nothing i couldnt get anywhere else… everyone in there was staring at my family came in brunch time we were a big group, they wouldnt even sit us together and just gave straight attitude. Mind were on vacation and not their race, sorry to say its 2015 and we still get treated like were in a different era. People eating stop and stare and were just in awe of a family coming to eat the same thing as them. Overall if youre not white dont bother to eat here. They will try to be nice but it will fake for their business and you will feel like youre in a movie with bad serivce. Lol good luck search somewhere without judgement.

After a personal review and reading the great reviews I could not wait to try this place out. We were greated by a young man who was friendly. When are waitress came to take our order she was short and not friendly at all. I said something funny but got no reaction. When she brought out food she warmed up a lot more and finally became friendly. Well I could not wait to try the breakfast. Everything was fresh and hot, including the syrup(nice touch) and it was cooked perfectly. We ordered a short stack(two nice big fluffy pancakes) with eggs and bacon(4!), chicken fried steak breakfast and an avacado, bacon omlet. Everything was cooked properly but it lacked flavor. There was no seasoning at all. A Lil salt and pepper could go a long way. The hash browns were cooked perfect with a nice crisp but very greesy. I do have to say the place is not bad but far from great.

«You never get a second chance to make a first impression.» As we park, the restaurant was empty at just after 11AM. We thought we’d scored and beat the lunch rush. The sour look from the lady in the lot smoking appeared clearly unhappy at being interrupted. We walk in and the cook gave us an even worst glare. The friend I was with said good morning to which there was no reply. At this point I decided this was not a place I will spend a dime. The most disturbing part of the visit is that as we left the parking lot the cook came out of the front door and watched as we drove away and stood watching us until we turned onto the main hwy a block away! wt? At least these«town folk» made it clear they didn’t want our business. Perhaps they thought we were passing through. If you are; I’d keep it pushing this place it definitely NOT as it is portrayed. If you’re local try Blue Moon café in Kelseyville. It’s definitely worth the drive.

We are just so thankful for the overall food ms service we received. Located inside the historical post office(saw the sign on the side of the building), they surprised me with great food and service. We went at around 10am for breakfast. My young children ordered ham and cheese sandwich to share, and they thoughtfully split the sandwich in half in separate plates, each has its own French fries and pickles. So thoughtful! My French toast come with WARM syrup in a bottle, which taste like old fashion style home cooking, so yummy! The food quality is better than Danny’s or IHOP. Our group of 10 finished everything in our plates. The service is great. We were asked several times, and added coffee 4 – 5 times, and they suggested something to do locally when been asked. This place is about 5 minutes walk from WorldMark. If you stay there this is a good option after a morning walk along the lake.

Great for breakfast, so-so for lunch. For breakfast you get better quality than Denny’s, at a higher price. Of course the nearest Denny’s is… I don’t know how many miles away. 4 strips when you order bacon, and it’s good bacon. Yay! Breakfast is a clear winner and would earn this place the coveted five stars in Lake County. Points are lost at lunch. Lunch: A «griled» turkey sandwich seems to be thin slices of turkey cold-cuts, fried. It was edible, but… meh. Maybe I just didn’t order the right thing. The potato salad side was good. I wish there were more of it. Service is prompt and friendly.

Look for the Evening Rose Café behind the Nice Market. We only found it through Unilocal even though it was literally within walking distance of our resort. Unless you are looking for it, the sign does not stand out on the road. Really liked this little place. Traditional American fare, but was hot and fresh. Staff was friendly and efficient. The kitchen took care with the chef salad by making it visually appealing. Something that was unexpected.

Good American comfort food! Everything that I’ve had has been tasty and I always leave satisfied. I like the green chili grilled cheese with tomato and the potato salad and potato soup. Breakfast is always yummy. My only complaint is the syrup heated in the plastic bottles. I know this is a small thing, but hot plastic is not healthy.

Very clean restaurant! From the tables, to the condiments and the bathroom. I will walk out of a dirty restaurant. Their breakfast was perfect and the service right on! I totally recommend this place if driving through the North end of the lake!

3.5 id say. Its a locals place, so pretty standard menu. Pretty good execution though and good prices. Family owned, but nothing spectacular. Id probably go back if i was close and hungry

Stayed in lakeport for 2 weeks for business. Tried all the lunch spots and this was the best! Omlettes are not greasy like other places in the area. The lady who runs this place is super nice. I have tried western, veggie, and Swiss/mushroom omlettes and they are all amazing! Too bad they are not closer to home, but its a nice treat to come here when I’m in the area.

My Wife and I stay at the Worldmark resort down the street on a semi-regular basis. We had seen the Evening Rose Café a number of times, but from the outside appearance never considered it as a place we would like to try. After trying most of the restaurants in Nice and Lucerne and being mostly dissapointed we went on Unilocal for reviews, and then also reviewed the Lake County helalth inpections records, both of which were very positive towards this café. Well we were very pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the kitchen that was open and visible and the quality of the food. Our entire party of five that morning came away impressed with the homestyle food and freindly atmosphere the place provided. We know where we will be going to eat on our future visits to Nice.

You wouldn’t find this place by accident. Off the main road in a shabby little building. But the food was great, plentiful, fresh. The tomatoes, peppers, salads ham and turkey sandwiches were great. Endless coffee, friendly service. Just really slow food delivery service.
