Gail’s Diner is a cozy family diner serving breakfast and lunch, located in the small town of Nichols, just off NY Route 17 Exit 62 near Tioga Downs. The diner itself is very small, which is like stepping inside of a friend’s house. The small dining room is packed with several tables and the kitchen area is open behind the counter. The walls are very decorated with plenty of classic & quirky signs, family pictures, local sports pictures, race horse plaques, old NY Yankees and Dallas Cowboys memorabilia(no Bills stuff here?). The breakfast offerings include egg dishes, omelets(served with toast, add home fries for $ 1.50), pancakes, French toast, sausage gravy & biscuits, hash, oatmeal, and breakfast sides. Most breakfast entrees include coffee. The lunch offerings include sandwiches, subs, clubs, spiedies, burgers, hot dogs, fried foods, chicken tenders, fried fish, shrimp, salads, soup, chili, and desserts(cheesecake, strawberry shortcake). Daily specials posted on the board. A kids corner menu is offered for breakfast & lunch. The prices here are pretty reasonable, most entrees under $ 8. While driving through Tioga County, I stopped for breakfast at Gail’s Diner in Nichols. I sat myself at an open table and I was given a menu. I started out with fresh brewed coffee and ordered the Sausage Gravy & Biscuits($ 6) with coffee included. The plate of food was served very hot, covered with plenty of white cream gravy(very light texture) with big chunks of soft ground sausage covered over 2 soft buttermilk biscuits. The food was pretty good, as well as the coffee too. The service here was courteous and prompt. Refills on the hot coffee were offered to me twice during breakfast, though I was all set after 2 cups of coffee.
