Bring a dollar, write a message, and post it on the ceiling for posterity.
When Lou Samudio is playing there with his band it’s always a great time!

Small town bar with small town conversations. Mike the owner is fun and welcoming. Roll dice for drinks.

Ultimate dive of dives. We stopped outside to take a picture on our way back to Lake Minden campgrounds, and the owner and one of the customers opened the door yelling «come on in!» We could not refuse, and ended up staying for 2 drinks and lots of conversation.
Simple cinderblock building, one pool table, a few tables, maybe some area out back (we didnt’ check). Very cold beer, but only bottles (no tap). Extremely basic liquor selection.
While there, we learned:
— the owner bought the bar 7 years ago, and his wife brings him dinner there every day
— Nicolaus used to be a major stop on the way down Hwy 90, but when the town flooded out in the 50’s the Hwy was rebuilt several miles away, bypassing Nicolaus and bringing the local economy to a halt
— Nicolaus used to be a cow-​milkin’ town (by hand!)
— the owner and customers love guns & hunting
We’ll definitely go back.
