Bunker Hill Forest Preserve

Lovely place to spend the day in nature. Great for walking, jogging, bicycles, picnic, amazing wildlife. :-) Also many stores and restaurants in surrounding area if you forgot to bring your own lunch …

This was my first time at Bunker Hill and it won’t be my last! I went for a run with a friend who comes here often and I was very impressed. I LOVED the scenery and the animal spottings (a little raccoon while I was waiting in my car for my friend and then deer during our run). It made me feel like I was somewhere other than the flat, boring Midwest. Everyone is very friendly and we received a hello when we passed a fellow jogger! The part of the trail we ran had some nice inclines and declines which was terrible at the time but that definitely works those quads and glutes like no other! Beach body here I come. If you want to go for a walk, run, or just chill out at a park, Bunker Hill is a great choice.

This is clean and nice park to come with family and friends for a picnic. The bathrooms are clean and it’s tissue in the bathrooms that’s a big plus. No doors on the individual doors but it’s clean. We always clean up after ourselves anyway but I really like this forest preserve. It’s also has a big trail.

Wonderful romantic fall walk in the park. Beautiful trees. Nice path. Spots for picnics. This took me back to my days in Cincinnati and I really enjoyed it. It’s nice to be able to get away from the busy city.
Best part… it’s free :-)

One of the nicest outdoor venues for any event. We’ve had several large (100+) group functions here… graduation parties, baby showers, bridal showers, summer barbecues. Most groves have a little hut with plenty of space around to set up playing fields for whatever you desire.
Keep in mind that proper permits need to be obtained through the Forest Preserve District of Cook County. Nothing too complicated.
We also decided to do our family portraits in one of the groves. The autumn colors on the trees provided an excellent backdrop for our photos. It was in early October and there really wasn’t anyone there so we had it to ourselves. (We did not need a permit for this.)
