I was in town from North Carolina(but I am originally from New Jersey home of the diner) for a concert. My friend and I hit Brickhouse and could not be happier! I honestly can say the food and service was the best I have had in years. It is always necessary to rate a place that uses the term diner by their breakfast food and they are a 10 out of 10. There is no doubt whenever we are back in Norfolk Brickhouse is a must!

As we sat and watch her t wesome food, quickly made, lousy service. Server came to table next to us four times, never came back to us. Never brought check a alking in the kitchen. Section cleared of guests and she still didn’t check on us. Still left tip though.

Stopped in for breakfast and I have no complaints. It’s a nice location that clearly caters to the various office workers in the vicinity. So it’s clean and comfortable. Service was friendly and the food took a little bit to be prepared, but it was made to order and what’s wrong with that? My cheese omelet was the right size, the home fries were cooked nicely and the toast was as desired. It was the very definition of «A-OK».

Not bad, but a little on the slow side. I ended up downtown early on Tuesday morning when I gave a friend a ride to the courthouse. The appointment took them less than 30 minutes so we decided to walk across the street and grab some breakfast. It was about 9:30am when we arrived and the place had pretty much cleared out. There were only couple of tables and the server said we could seat ourselves. Once seated she immediately came by with menus and took our drink order. I settled on an item called the Brick House Combo which was essentially a breakfast skillet. It came with two eggs any way you want them, two strips of bacon, two sausages(link or patty) and ham with toast or a biscuit. My friend had an order of pancakes with a side of sausage patties. While initially fast with the ordering and drinks from there it got slow, very slow. There was apparently a shift change going on because the server who seated us and took the order disappeared and eventually she was replaced by another one who refilled our drinks. Our food finally arrived and it was excellent and both of us were happy with our meals. Cost ran about $ 20 before tip which isn’t bad at all for downtown Norfolk.

I have eaten at Brickhouse many times since it has opened. It is great for a diner type place. It’s owned by a Greek family and they make everything from scratch, which is nice. I will say don’t expect Michelin star cuisine. It’s homey, diner fare and it’s good. The one negative I have is service. Depending on the waitress you get, it can be lacking. Food normally comes quick, but you may have to wait for drink refills or extra condiments. That being said, I do recommend this place. Make sure you try the deserts! They’re amazing!

Brickhouse is a nice little breakfast spot. Good quality food and always prepared well. The spicy chicken wrap is wonderful and always fresh. The service is hit or miss. If they are busy good luck but if it’s not packed, quick service and and drink refills are always offered. The overall environment is casual yet a lot of business people in suits are present due to it being across the street from the court buildings. This is a nice breakfast and lunch spot I would recommend it.

Surprised at the low ratings for a nice little downtown diner. I’m a fan of the authentic gyro. The burgers aren’t bad either, although they always seem to be a little too well done.

I was looking forward to trying this little diner for an afternoon lunch with an old friend. I had never seen the menu, but she suggested it because she had an awesome salad to go, previously. I am a culinary student and have worked in the industry for twenty years. I was so happy to see a burger on the menu served cooked to order, I could not resist! I requested a medium rare burger, my friend ordered medium. The food was out quickly which at a busy downtown is great, however, the burgers were both well done and no seasoning. The servers did not get to the table in a timely enough manner to see if it was cooked properly. It was the driest, most bland burger I have ever consumed. I was on a schedule that day and knew I would not be home until 9:30 in the evening, and that was my main meal of the day. I drowned my plate in ketchup, mustard and mayo to get it down and kept it movin’. If you do not know how to properly cook a burger I suggest omitting it from the menu. On the one star side, when the servers(one in training) did check they were very apologetic and said the owner offered complimentary dessert. No thanks! Won’t be back!

I like the convenience of this place, but I have to say that most people don’t expect great customer service from this place either. What you should expect is decent customer service and food, and unfortunately this place have me neither today. I ordered a Caesar salad to go and when I got back to my office and found that the tomatoes were rotten. I called them and they told to bring it back and they would replace it. The girl at the counter told me that she would notify the chef. It was obvious that this salad definitely was not prepared by any real chef, at least not one with any sense of pride. To top it off, there was no apology offered by the girl at the counter for their mistake or for the inconvenience. And to make matters worse the replacement salad I received had wilted lettuce on the bottom and half the tomatoes were again rotten! Unbelievable!

Good french toast and eggs — coffee is good too. I’ve only had breakfast here, but it’s quite good. Staff is friendly, restaurant is clean and comfortable — recommended.

Had 45 mins before an important meeting but I was starving. Took a chance here & I was pleased. I was eating 15 mins after I sat down. Great tuna melt & the price was right. $ 11 after tip and I was on time.

First visit to this place — overall I would say it isn’t a bad lunch spot. The menu has decent variety and the service was quick. I don’t think I would hesitate to try it again. I would probably give it a 3.5 if I could.

Brickhouse is a fairly new breakfast and lunch spot offering a good selection for the downtown crowd. It’s located where Mom’s Kitchen was, and the set up is similar, although, they’ve updated the décor and it looks a bit nicer inside. I got up at the crack of dawn and arrived to work way too early today, so I decided to pick up a little breakfast to fuel me. There were a few specials that seemed perfect for an easy take out, eat-at-your-desk kind of meal. They have a more extensive breakfast menu though, with pancakes, french toast, steak and eggs, omlets, etc. I opted for a simple egg sandwich on wheat toast. Nothing special, but a good simple eat when you’re on the go and don’t want to start the day out too greasy(not even butter on the bread). The lunch menu has much more variety, including traditional salads, sandwiches and burgers as well as Greek favorites, such as gyros and spanikopita. Everyone in my office has raved about their Greek salad. Brickhouse is one of the only places in Hampton Roads that has Tyropita on the menu. Tyropita is the cheese-only form of the ubiquitous spanikopita. Take advantage of this as an appetizer, it’s one of my favorite traditional Greek dishes!
