Courtyard Norfolk Downtown

Was under renovation but we never heard a thing! Everyone here is amazing! If you have the pleasure of stopping by the bistro and meeting the cashier Dashauna, then you will have an amazing night! She was so sweet!

Don’t stay here. Under renovation. Cannot control temp in room and customer service isn’t accommodating. Wallpaper falling off walls. Ice machine on 4^th floor leaks. Valet parking takes forever to get car.

Whatever happens at this Marriott. Someone at the hotel cares about you. They will find a way to make up any inconvenience.
Give them a chance and voice your concern. Good things will follow.

I came here for a event. The hotel was nice and the staff was friendly. The conference room the event was held in was small but nice.

Overall an awesome stay! Leaps and bounds above the Marriott waterside. Staff was great and the rooms were spacious and comfy. Breakfast included was delicious also.

Courtyard Norfolk Downtown — Norfolk, VA — 8÷6÷2015
This Marriott is conveniently located in downtown Norfolk not too far from the water. Friendly front counter staff and overall clean and efficiently run.
My bed, was not made to usual Marriott «bounce a quarter on it» standards and they didn’t properly clean the bathroom as well as they should have…
Not much going on as far as stuff to do in the lobby. There is a small restaurant with a very limited selection… The strawberries I had for breakfast were really fresh and tasty.
The gym is pretty sad as there are only three machines and a hand full of light weight dumbells… I didn’t bother… As far as the pool… It was small and because there was somebody’s sporting event going on in the area, full with kids… So needless to say I didn’t use that either.
Overall I would say my stay was OK but somewhat disappointed compared to my usual Marriott experience.
The Waterside Marriott would be much better choice…

Not bad, light rail train running in front of the building is annoying. Convenient valet parking for hotel guests and visitors. Rooms were clean, an updated Courtyard with a quick service restaurant. Free in room WiFi.

We reserved a 2 queen bed room during the afternoon, and once we arrived at 11:30, we were told that they only had a King available. The girl behind the desk couldn’t give me a reason as to why my room was no longer available even though I called earlier in the day and was told that it would still be available for a late check in. Isn’t the purpose of a reservation to keep the room available for your arrival? The girl did knock off $ 24 off of the price, but not having the room that we reserved was a disappointment. Also, I’m not sure what happened, but there was an event going on where the police were called. When we arrived at the hotel, there were police surrounding the hotel, and there were lots of conversations between police and patrons going on around the entrance. However, I must add that although small, the King room was very cozy, and it slept quite well. The valet guys were also extremely professional and courteous.

As a Marriott Platinum Preferred Elite (the top of the top tier), I think that I’ve finally found a property that recognizes that status. From the warm greeting when I arrived, the gent who checked me in said that they were comping my parking (sweet!) and then he wrote out four breakfast vouchers (sweet!) and then putting me in a room on the top floor (super sweet!).
The room was laid out the same as other Courtyard properties have been — a bed, work desk, small fridge, coffee service and flat panel television. No, there’s no microwave. That’s not how Courtyard generally rolls.
Breakfast in the lobby is not free. That’s also the Courtyard way.
Free wifi worked well.

Visiting Norfolk for a grad school interview. Wanted to stay in the city to get a better feel for what living here would be like. The valet was terrible — cars piled up in the drive way when I entered and when I came down to head to the beach, I stood outside for 10 minutes waiting — only to learn he was standing inside gabbing with another employee. The food at the «bistro» is terrible. Everything is microwaved and over priced. Even my drink was given to me half full. And lastly, the rooms are forgettable and there was no quiet. People running around from room to room, yelling and laughing and slamming doors. I felt like I was back in my first year of college dorm life. No thanks. For more than $ 100/​night I’ll choose a different place next time.

Excellent property and location. Friendly an deficient staff. Spacious rooms with appropriate amenities. I wish they had a wet bar for evenings and breakfast buffet in the spacious lobby area.

Stayed for one night to run in the Harbor Lights half marathon the next day. Front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. Room was average for a Courtyard but had one of the most comfortable beds that I have ever experienced at a hotel. Valets were all congenial and prompt. Adjacent to everything downtown and very easy to get to off of the interstate.

Stayed at this Courtyard on a recent business trip. Convenient location in Downtown Norfolk. If you come by car be aware that parking at the hotel is $ 19. Arrived a few minutes after a large bus group resulting in a very long wait to check-​in. I am a Marriott Platinum Rewards Memeber but was not offered a welcome gift upon check-​in. Temperature in my room was just about impossible to control. Caulking in the bathroom was missing/​lose in some areas.

The hotel room was average — nothing exceptional but nothing that was sub-​par. A few weeks after staying at the hotel, I noticed a strange charge on my credit card — long story short, they had charged me twice for my stay. It was a bit shocking as I figured a large hotel chain would have a system in place to prevent this, but alas they did not.
The reason this hotel is receiving 3 stars instead of 1 is because of the customer service I received following the discovered mistake. The man I spoke with on the phone let me know I would receive a refund in about 3 business days. Within that time frame, I had received an email from the hotel’s general manager as well as a refund on my card.
Human error happens and good customer service is hard to come by these days so in that respect, I couldn’t think of a better way in which the customer service could have been better. Well, unless they wanted to either offer compensation in the form of a hotel night stay and/​or refunding the amount I originally paid, which was higher than this mistaken charge that was refunded. Comfortable bed, clean room with a refrigerator, free wi-​fi, and very close to great bars and restaurants. Once set back: the fitness room… well, it’s really just a hotel room, cleared out and outfitted with cardio equipment and some other minor fitness equipment. A very sad attempt at satisfying any patrons who want to work out. I think Cris Carter said it best, «C’mon Man!»
You’re a Courtyard Marriott… spend a little time and energy on creating a space where healthy-​minded visitors can get a decent workout!

My shower curtain pole was pulled loose when I checked in.
One call to the front desk and they sent up Milton who immediately repaired the shower pole. Thanks Milton!
Also, lets get a lower price for beer, this is supposed to be like home comfort and expensive «Bud Light» is alarming.
Sure parking with a valet is a hassle, they need to reverse the entrance for better flow, all the staff was helpful and accommodating.
What more could you ask for.

Pros: Location, free Wifi, friendliness of staff.
Cons: cleaning staff, maintenance issues.
Location: Excellent — I can’t imagine you could be more conveniently located to shopping, food, historical attractions, etc. A large mall, several museums, and countless restaurants all within walking distance.
Rooms: Spacious and well-​apportioned with plenty of plugs, free WiFi, and even a mini-​fridge
Amenities: Small but convenient gym, though each day I used it the thermostat read 81… A little warm for a gym space. They also have a café on site that is convenient to grab breakfast, dinner, and snacks, as well as laundry service, a pool, and valet parking.
Cleanliness: Several problems, particularly in the bathroom, including pink mildew in the corners of the shower (easily came off when I simply wiped with a washcloth, but they shouldn’t leave that job to their guests), minor maintenance (missing screws in both the shower faucet and the closet door made it seem rickety and cheap), and hairs in the dresser drawers (had not been wiped clean between guests). Most importantly, my room was simply neglected to be serviced one day. I was out by 8 a.m., so I find it hard to believe they came by earlier. The front desk was kind enough to send up shampoo and towels, upon my informing them that evening, but unfortunately, the staff member who brought up my «fresh» towels appeared to be a handyman — he looked very disheveled (shirt untucked, etc.) so it didn’t exactly inspire confidence in how fresh my new towels were when they arrived.
All in all, I’d venture to say would would try staying here again, especially because of the fantastic location, but there were certainly some minor infractions that could stand to be remedied.

Great location, walking distance to everything downtown and MacArthur Mall, very nice front desk staff.

Where this hotel loses stars is the gym and climate control in room. I was there in July. The air cannot keep up with the heat in the rooms. Had the engineer up thinking a/​c in room was bad. He said no just cant keep up with the afternoon heat. He was right. when the sun went down the room gradually cooled off, but was uncomfortable for several hours, then woke up freezing.
The gym is really poor, even for a hotel. Two treadmills that were making a lot of noise and limited selection of hand weights. And when I was there the a/​c in the gym was broken. Redeeming factor, front desk told me about a run, the hotel is two blks off the river and there is a great pathway along the river for a very nice run.

A rather disappointing experience all around.
Had business in the city and had this hotel recommend by a co-​worker.
I requested an early check-​in since I’m a Marriott Rewards member. At 11am, I arrived, checked in and got my key with the intent of dropping my bags off in the room and then
heading to a meeting. I was quite surprised to find housekeeping cleaning my room when I arrived. I told the lady I would drop my bags in the closet and she could continue.
After the business day, I went to dinner with colleagues and returned around 8p.
When I checked the closet for my bags, you can imagine my surprise to discover they were gone.
I called the front desk and was told they would get their bell captain right on it.
About 3 minutes later he showed up with my bags and no explanation why they
were in a different room.

for a marriott property, this was sadly lacking. It didnt smell great and the bar tenders at the on site restaurant actually had no bar tending experiance. I had to tell them how to make a Whiskey and Ginger…
all in all, I would stay elsewhere on my next trip to Norfolk
