Amazing salon hidden in Ghent. I’m hesitant to go into big salons like this because I get a little self-​conscious with all the mirrors, the super expensive products, the upscale clientele and look of the salon, I always feel out of place! BUT — this place is not like that at all. It does have the awesome products like Oribe, the runway atmosphere, is very open and modern, but I’ve never felt more at home. I saw Camille and will always come back to see her. She’s an INCREDIBLE colorist and gives the absolute best blowout out of any stylist in the area. Ever. Hands down. She also taught me how to do my own blow out from home to keep the ‘just left the salon’ look fresh every time I wash my hair.

Logan took her time. Detail oriented. I’ve found a new hairdresser. As we all know is such a challenge. I’m feeling my sass.

I was recommended to come to this salon from one of my friends. I needed to get a new color to change up my style and get a haircut. I just moved to the area about 4 months ago so I was due to get my haircut. I always have know to make sure you bring a picture to show what you would like done to your hair and to find out if the stylist would be able to perform that on my hair. I went to a consultation 2 weeks prior to my appt and the stylist had stated she can do a balayage on my hair. I came back 2 weeks later the stylist had just started on my hair without asking any questions about what I was doing to my hair so I just assumed she knew/​remembered to what she consulted me 2 weeks ago (but in reality who remembers what they talked about with a stranger 2 weeks ago). We start the process and we go through to the point where she is washing out the bleach she uses on my hair, but apparently it didn’t go light enough so she had to dry my hair and apply some more… I honestly I was afraid my hair was going to be too light since my hair lightens pretty easy.
Then its almost 2 hours later and her next customer is already here waiting and her and she still hasn’t completely dried my hair to straighten it. So she did a half ass job to dry my hair so she can start on her next client. After my hair is curled I am already upset cause parts near my scalp are still damp and my hair is way too frizzy (even after apply Moroccan oil). My hair was way to brassy brown almost orange and the ends were almost lighten so much that it was a slight tint of green. I wanted a balayage from brown to light brown. This was a very bad first time experience. The only reason I gave some stars for this experience was because they have good customer service. She had mentioned to contact her to let know when I wanted to reschedule to get this color fixed. A week later (after walking around my professional office job like this for a week) I meet with her and she tried to tone it down which ended up looking a little better but the top of my head still had a brassy look to in natural light.
I wish she would have just asked to refresh her memory on the consultation we had when I had my actual appt, but she didn’t. So I wasted my money on a hair color I didn’t want.
UPDATE: I didn’t remember her exact name, but she told me she was the owner of the salon.

Okay, I will start out by saying that my first run with G Patton Salon (about 3 years ago) was not good. So I have been trying my best to find a great salon since. After I cut my hair in a pixie from the lady I thought was that golden grail hairdresser, I was lost about how to fixed the botched hair cut! I decided to give G Patton another go, and I am SO SO SO glad I did.
I booked my appointment for 4pm, ended up getting off early, and they slid me in at 1pm instead! My appointment was with Jessikah Salensky, who was AMAZING. I got a hot towel wrap and a really great relaxation massage and arm massage. So good! Jessikah even sat down to find out what I use to style and wash my hair, and exactly what I was unhappy about my hair. She is so sweet!
For the hair, she grabbed the owner (I didn’t catch her name) and she was, again, AMAZING. Knew exactly what to do, within a few snips I could already tell I loved the cut. A third stylist (again, I didn’t catch her name!) jumped in to help with the hair around the ears towards the end, who, again was freaking stelar! Let me tell you, these ladies really did some amazing team work to get me out the door with a hairstyle that I love so much! In my 4 years in hampton roads, this is absolutely hands down the BEST salon experience I have had since I moved here. I could not be more pleased with my hair! If you’re reading this to try and find that holy grail hair salon, seriously look no further!!! Take it from someone who has tried a lot in the area. :)

I moved to the area last summer and I have to say I was sad to leave my hairstylist back in LA. Finding a good stylist that you trust and feel confident with can be quite hard.
Well, I was happy that on my first try I found G Patton salon and the truly amazing Erika LaPlante! She did a fantastic cut and color on my first visit, I was very pleased! I just had my third visit recently and she gave me gorgeous full highlights.
Erika has a warm heart, a bright spirit and such a love and talent for hair. She is so fun to talk with and really made me feel welcome when I first moved here.

This salon is one of the best that I’ve been to since I moved from California. Val is awesome! She has great style and is very accommodating. The salon is clean and has a very open feel. I highly recommend it! Thanks Val!

I’m posting a review of my experience yesterday at G Patton Salon, or rather my lack of experience. I had an appointment scheduled with Logan at 6pm, unfortunately when I arrived to the salon roughly 10 minutes before my appointment I found the doors to be locked and the salon to be closed. I called the salon number in hopes I had went to the wrong location, but found no answer. Though I can’t speak to skill level of Logan or anyone else in the salon, I can speak to the level of professionalism, which I find to be greatly substandard. I received no phone call informing me of my appointment being cancelled — despite getting a confirmation email and text message that morning verifying my appointment. When I got into work this morning I did have a cancellation email waiting in my inbox, that said the email was time stamped 10 minutes after 5pm. Considering rush hour traffic and the time of my appointment I find it out of the question that a phone call was not made, since it would be reasonable to consider that I would be leaving from work directly to my appointment, and in this instant I was. I understand life happens and would have been perfectly content to have rescheduled my appointment to a more convenient time if a problem had arisen. To say I am surprised that no phone call was made or that this salon does not have a policy to provide a curtsey phone call for last minute cancellations would be an understatement.
I was referred to the salon from several friends and am extremely disappointed.

I got a haircut from Erika over the weekend and am so pleased. I have very thick, unruly hair and she took her time with the cut and style and gave me some great pointers for haircare at home. I have already gotten so many compliments on my haircut. In the past stylists have often had a hard time getting my layers under control but Erika has gotten them to lay perfectly. Highly recommend.

Let me first explain this salon from my understanding. It is an upscale salon, but the stylists rent «booths» or chairs. So what this means is that each individual stylist is a separate business.
I hate to give this salon 2 stars because I think it’s lovely and the owners are very nice, but my experience was below average.
I purchased a groupon for Erika LaPlant. I scheduled an appointment for a Saturday at 230pm. I made arrangements in order to have a babysitter. She texts me a few days later asking me to come in at 1230 because a girl whose hair she was color treating was going to take awhile. At first I was a little taken back because I’ve never actually had a salon call me and ask me to move my appointment to accommodate another customer. I don’t know if this is common practice, but my first impression was that it was a little rude because I already made arrangements for a babysitter. Ok so I agree and sadly I wasn’t able to find a babysitter for that timeframe.
The day of the appointment I leave 30 minutes early from vb and I end up hitting traffic because of an accident that was out of my control. So I text her and I didn’t get a response, but I did see she read it because it said so on «iMessage.» I arrive at 1245 which was 15 minutes later than the appointment.
As soon as I get there she says, «I can’t wash or style your hair because I won’t have time.» Ok so to be quite honest, I’m not fully sure why I said yes. It was probably the fact that I was rushing and my mind was wrapped around the fact that I was late because of the accident, but I didn’t stop to think that that was not professional at all.
I’ve been to several high end salons and the few times I have been late, I have never been denied a wash or a style. Now looking back at it, why didn’t I stand up for myself and say «no?» I don’t even know why it wasn’t recommended for me to have it rescheduled at least, but every other salon I’ve been to tacks on time for unforeseen instances like this.
At the end, the most DISTURBING thing she tells me is «I canceled your groupon becaus I wasn’t informed that you had one.» I know I told the staff this because I specifically said I have a groupon and wanted to know if Erika had any availability. I’m confused and ask her to repeat herself a few times because when in the history of groupons has that ever been allowed? I paid for it and she has no right to cancel it. The reason I know this is because I personally called groupon and they said that was far from the truth. Even groupon was embarrassed and refunded me 50% back.
She later says «but I’ll take it this time.» Pshhh that’s not cool at all. I had my son with me and he was cranky.
To sum up this experience, it was the absolute worst salon experience I had ever had. I felt rushed, I felt like she was fake and didn’t genuinely want to possibly establish a relationship with me. She seemed more focused on her $ 300 ombré girl after me.
I will say though that Sabrina, the salon owner was respectful and replied back to me. She personally offered a cut and style for free with her. I really really appreciated that because for me as A mom and student, time and budget is limited. I was really looking forward to an excellent salon experience because I probably hadn’t had a haircut in 2 years.

This place is the real deal! I saw Jessica A. for an appointment and she rocked it! She is very serious about what she does, she does not rush and takes her time to make sure she is giving her clients exactly what they want. I’m a brunette, but my hair was dull and lifeless I brought her a pic of Kim Kardashians rich chocolate brown hair color with caramel undertones and she delivered!!! Fantastic stylist cannot say enough nice things about her! I have had a lot of bad experiences in the past so I was nervous, but now I know I finally have someone I can trust and who truly listens to what her clients want!

Erika LaPlante gave me the best haircut I have had in years — I feel like a new me! She was personable and really knows what she’s doing! After moving here a months ago I am so relieved to have found her after first trying other salons in the area. She makes it convenient to book an appointment by calling her cell directly 757−603−5458. Don’t wait, make an appt with her today!

Very professional. Even though my dresser (Eugene) was running late, he did an amazing job. I have very fine and thin hair and he decided to use products and hair dye that would not harm my hair extensively. I will definitely go back. Worth the price. Great products for sale too, they have the best of the best. Any salon carrying those products are worthy to cut your beautiful hair.

Stop looking for a good salon and a great hairdresser already! G Patton & stylist Erika LaPlante are supremeo and I wouldn’t go anywhere else in Norfolk or Hampton Roads for that matter. Honestly I’ve had my fair share of stylists in VA and have never been FULLY satisfied with the outcome until I found Erika. G Patton’s stylists are continually educated with new tricks and trade, so you can get the most updated look possible. I love the West Coast feel and urban atmosphere. Getting your hair done should be an experience, so I definitely recommend getting a good experience with a fabulous stylist and a salon who truly care.

Erika is amazing. She has always been on time for me and does a terrific job every time. Most importantly, she listens carefully to what you ask for and is honest about how realistic your request is and what she will need to do to achieve it. I have never once been disappointed with either my cut or color. I would highly recommend a visit.

For far too long, I have been putting off getting my hair cut, let alone even styled. As a woman with thick, coarse curly hair, I can speak for the rest of us when I say, it is crucial to find a stylist who can handle our kinks. Saying I procrastinated is a gross understatement. After 4 years without a cut, I had to let go of all of that heat damage, styling stress, and those split ends. I came across G Patton through previously working in Ghent and it’s came up through word of mouth. Not to mention, I have been past at least a few dozen times and all of their clients look amazing walking out of there. It’s inevitably a well known salon in Norfolk. Given that background, I decided to peruse the reviews here on Unilocal and to no surprise, G Patton had held up nicely. So, I called to make an appointment that day.
A very polite young gentleman answered the phone and asked if I had been there before and who I would like to style with. I responded with a highly recommended stylist who would work well with my hair type. She wasn’t available to fit me in her chair that same day, so I briefly told him about the texture and length of my hair and he immediately recommended for me to see Amber later in the afternoon.
A few hours after making my appointment, I walk in and Amber is ready to see me at 4 o’clock on the dot. I can’t emphasize how important it is to be on time. We’re already off to a good start. She takes me to her chair and unravels my abandoned locks, then begins to consult with me. At this point, I’m not too keen on how to tell my stylist what I want. I told her of all of the damage my hair has been put through over the years and I was aware that I would have to get rid of some of my length. Despite the obvious sight of damaged hair, I wanted to hold on. I wanted to keep my hair as long as possible even if my split ends contributed to the length, but Amber helped me get over that quickly and made me feel at ease. Amber has a special qualities in her expertise that aren’t to be matched with anyone I’ve known to style hair. The whole experience was effortlessly satisfying from the conversation to the result of my clean new style. She knew exactly how tame my mane while maintaining length I so badly wanted to keep. Starting with a deep conditioning treatment, my hair was in great hands and the years worth of neglect got some proper TLC. She included long layers that contributed to major volume and body. Amber also gave me face framing layers that complemented my face perfectly. Instead of insistently trying to sell me hair products, she taught me how to blow out my hair. Now that’s looking out for future upkeep of my new style. I may hold off for another haircut until I visit the area again.

I’m a couple months late posting this, but I still definitely remember my last visit here. I had gotten a Groupon deal for a haircut and color by Aaron Bowser. I wanted to get my hair recolored to my normal red color, since my roots had grown out about two inches and were pretty visible.
I remember remarking at the time that he had gotten the color on very quickly; I didn’t realize until I was halfway home why – he didn’t put the coloring on the roots to sit first. EVERY other colorist I’ve ever been to puts the coloring on the roots and lets it sit for a few minutes, because the roots are much harder to dye than the hair that’s already been colored. He simply put color on my hair all at once and let it sit. Well, predictably, the roots were a different color and were VERY noticeable once he started drying my hair; however, he didn’t say anything until I mentioned it. He tried to downplay it at first, and then grudgingly agreed to apply a second color. He blamed it on the fact that I had used Ion hair color the last time I colored my hair, and called it a «color correction» instead of admitting his mistake.
Anyway, the color finally came out evenly after the second coat, and then he went to cutting my hair. He cut MUCH more off of it than we had talked about, and it was clear he was rushing (especially since he had to take a lot longer to dye my hair). The rest of the hair cut came out okay, I should mention.
The reason why he rushed through my coloring and cut was so that he could do his mother’s hair, and he told me she didn’t even have an appointment or pay. So he rushed and made a mistake on a paying customer’s hair to do the hair of someone who didn’t even bother to make an appointment.
I honestly wouldn’t be so mad about this if that was all; people make mistakes, and some aren’t mature enough to own up to them. Whatever. However, then he charged me an extra $ 75 for a «color correction!» I wish I had realized at the salon that he hadn’t let the color sit on my roots and that’s why it was on so quickly; there’s no way I would have paid for that. As it was, I was so stunned that I just paid it. A stylist at a salon like that should know better than to make a mistake like that, though.
THE ONLY reason I’m giving this place two stars instead of one is because I’ve been here once before to get my hair cut by Mikaela. She did a really fantastic job cutting my hair; she even got my bangs and layers perfect. Definitely one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had, and she was very nice as well. I would definitely recommend Mikaela, but STAY AWAY FROM AARON!

I will never go to any other salon again! G Patton Salon has set the bar and set it high.
My hair goes through a lot because of my job: chlorine, saltwater, wind, cold, heat, all while being pulled back in an unforgiving bun every day. And I have a lot of it. A LOT. So when I realized that there would actually be pictures taken at the three weddings I will be attending in the next two months, I realized it was time to rescue my hair. I’d had highlights done back in June, and hadn’t had a trim since then either. I called G Patton Salon and by some miracle got an appointment for highlights and a cut with Bruce, since he had a cancellation.
It was the best decision I’ve ever made regarding my hair. As soon as I walked into the salon, I loved the hip atmosphere – cool without trying too hard, not exactly hipster but definitely someplace that both the young and more mature can feel comfortable. Clean and neat and organized, I felt immediately that these stylists knew what they were collectively doing.
Bruce was charming and confident. He understood exactly what I meant when I waved my hands vaguely around my frizzy hair mentioning phrases like «natural blonde» and «not too extreme» and «it kind of does its own thing.» There was no judgment like at some other salons about the fact that I’d let my highlights grow out a good three inches and hadn’t had a trim in months. He ran his capable hands through my frazzled locks and then got to work, all the while chatting with me amiably about whatever subject we happened to think about.
Three and a half hours later (a LOT of hair, like I said), I was highlighted, washed, trimmed and blow-​dried with a fabulous style that I’d never seen any other stylist manage with my hair. Bruce finessed my frizzy thick hair into smooth bouncy curls that framed my face perfectly… my boyfriend was blown away when he came to pick me up! If I ever win the lottery, I’m going to go to G Patton every day for a blowout just like that, it looked that good. The price tag is comparable to many other high-​end salons, but for the miracle that Bruce worked on my hair, it was worth every penny. Bravo, G Patton, you’ve earned my business for as long as I live here.

My new favorite hair salon in Hampton Roads. My hair came out EXACTLY how I envisioned… this never happens to me!
I got a hair cut and style from Mikaela S., who was professional, proficient, and easy to talk to. I came to get my hair fixed after a horrible layering job at a cheap salon and she did a great job blending in my layers. She was very welcoming to suggestions, so I asked for a few more inches off after the blow dry and everything was perfect. I loved the hair cream she used, light and unscented, and appreciated that she didn’t try to sell me bunch of products at the end of the visit.
I love the layout and atmosphere here: big open space, super clean, and happy looking people. I tried this place because of a Groupon, but would return and pay full price… worth the money!

So I’m noticing on here that Michaela doesn’t have any reviews yet for the salon. I have naturally curly hair that tends to be butchered anytime I get it cut; I found a Groupon for Michaela and saw that G Patton had fantastic reviews online, so I decided to give it a shot (It couldn’t have been much worse than what had already happened to my hair).
When I walked in, I was a little intimidated; the salon is fairly chic and I tend to be out of my element in such places. However, my intimidation was quickly shunned because the girl working the front desk was incredibly nice. I was 15 minutes early, but didn’t have to wait any longer than 5 minutes for Michaela to greet me and take me back. My favorite part of getting my hair done is my shampoo, and I LOVE hot water; she let me enjoy the water as hot as she could stand it (definite kudos).
I am so glad that I found that Groupon. Michaela was fantastic; she was friendly, informative, and willing to help me out. She gave me some tips, and answered my stupid little questions without making me feel inferior; she encouraged me to open up and be a little more demanding than I usually am. Most importantly she gave me a great cut and style. I most definitely recommend the salon and Michaela to anyone, especially curly girls.
