Was really excited to eat here after reading the reviews on Unilocal.Place was decent looking, clean, friendly people. I got the greater grinder and honestly I could’ve made it better at home. Nothing tasted fresh or stood out, not sure how they’ve stayed open for 40 years with subs like that. Maybe it was an off day or I picked the wrong thing but I just wasn’t impressed. I don’t think I’ll be back to find out, too many other better options.

Stopped by on a rainy afternoon on a whim. It reminded me of a dive-version of Subway; mainly due to the color scheme of the joint. A dive though, for sure. When I walked in though, I was the only customer, but as I ordered and waited… More people came through. It seems we all had stumbled upon a good thing. Now, normally — I’m a salad eater but I splurged sharing the super grinder with a friend. While I was disappointed it took so long to prepare… 15 minutes or so… When they were done we realized the sandwich was actually hot! So this isn’t like your typical sandwich place… They take the time to cook these babies so that the tomatoes are juicy and the cheese all melted. It was worth the wait, seriously delicious and 100 times better than Subway. Will return, I’m sure!

I couldn’t wait to finish eating my greater grinder to write a review, so I’m sitting here with my mouth full and fingers coated in oil and vinegar as I type. Even before I tasted the sandwich, I knew this place was a hidden gem. The customers, obviously regulars, and the employees make this place. The customers have their usual and the employees know it by heart. Even the friendly owner knew everyone in the place! The grinder is great. My half greater grinder with sweet peppers is about ¾ of the way gone and I’m loving every bite. No, it’s not gourmet, but it’s deliciously simple. I love this place.

Wow, I’d really like to know what place most of these reviewers are going to. I sincerely pride myself on my taste buds. I work in Quality so I clearly understand cost vs. taste vs. speed vs. expectations. I recently moved back to the area and needed to find somewhere close to my new work for lunch. My first visit I got the meatball sub. Average at best. Meatballs were clearly pre-made/pre-frozen hunks of meat(little taste) and sauce was average. Now, I never pass judgment on a place without giving it a second chance. Every place had a bad day, right? Second time I got the steak sub. Wow, worst sub I’ve eaten since middle school. A couple of Steak-Ums slapped on the roll with a piece of cheese. No flavor. Visually unpleasing. Cheap(but it cost me $ 9). Owner seemed to be very nice, but I’m buying food, not a relationship. I’ve been trying other places. Lots of better places in the area.

I concur w my fellow Unilocalers. This place rocks. Super friendly fast service. Haven’t seen a sub shop that toasts theirs in a long time but it was a serious treat. Def recommend the sweet peppers treatment. Clean spot. Dont go for view or location but a feel good experience where the owner is clearly setting the tone!

Had the Super Greater Grinder, really enjoyed it. The bread was soft inside with a slight bit of crunch outside, and the taste combination of meats, cheeses, lettuce, oil & vinegar were spot on. I added hot peppers and mayo for the way I like it. I got the whole, and it isn’t a super sized sub — it’s just the right size. Definitely worth a try if you’re in the area and like subs.

Great staff. Everytime my dad is in town, we eat here daily. He swears by their steak and cheese and adds pepperoni. I usually get the meatball or the turkey and ham which are both tasty.

WOW! tip call ahead they get busy! Located right outside the Industrial park in Norfolk this little GEM has stand out food! The aroma of oil and vinegar hit’s you in the parking lot the steady traffic of workers coming for lunch or take out tell you this place is good before you order! For me a Grinder all the way, toasted perfectly and just the right amount of Oil and Vinegar to make it taste right but not soak the bread down! The inside and bathrooms dated but clean the staff super friendly! Gonna have to come back here !!

I’ll start by saying I was torn between 4 or 5 stars but when the owner came from behind the counter to shake my hand and thank me for eating there, it was a no brainer. On to the subs… Has Red October met its match? I’d like to think so. Just had the Super Greater Grinder with hot peppers and sweet peppers and I’ve been hit. Place has been in the water for a long, long time and I don’t see anybody sinking this ship anytime soon. And with that I leave you with this… We all live in yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, We all live in yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine.
