She may not be the prettiest restaurant, but the food was EXCELLENT. The bun my hamburger came on had been grilled to a perfect crispiness. My husband ordered a rare steak. Often he has had to send his steak back because it’s too done. He was quite pleased with the doneness of this one. Our waitress was very kind and considerate, and the cook knew how to please our tummies!!! We’ll definitely go back!

I have driven by this place sooooooooooooooo many times and have never even thought about stopping in here until one late Tuesday night and a friend suggested it. The snob in me immediately flared my nostrils, however I decided to give it a try. It’s small on the inside but was surprisingly very clean. I got a double bacon cheeseburger with home fries instead of the chips that it came with. My dining companion got some sort of breakfast combo: eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon. Food was hot, fresh and delicious. The waitress was also the cook and she was very friendly and engaging, but not overly engaging. I’d gladly go back for some more home cooking diner style.

I have been craving breakfast food for the past couple of days(gotta love pregnancy!), so hubs took me to Johnny’s Diner because it’s less than 5 minutes away from the house. As soon as we got out of the car, this random hobo came up to us and asked us for $ 2. In the future, I will not go here without my man — that made me super uncomfortable. After that ordeal, we quickly walked to the door and saw a sign that their credit card machine was out of order. Good thing we had cash. We sat down and were immediately greeted by a waitress. She took our drink order down and came back with them in less than a minute. The soda tasted a little flat, but it was still drinkable. The hubs ordered steak & eggs, while I ordered a waffle combo with a side of hash browns. I will only comment on what I ate, since I didn’t try any of his food. Overall, my meal was pretty good. The hash browns and bacon were cooked exactly the way I liked. The scrambled eggs had a funny aftertaste, so I didn’t finish them. The waffle was good, but I’ve had better ones at Waffle House. Overall, the food is exactly what you would expect at a diner. The customer service was excellent. I took a couple of stars off because of the hobo, the broken card machine, and the weird-tasting eggs. Next time I visit this diner, I will try their NCBBQ… Let’s see if it will meet my expectations.

Johnny’s diner goes down in the book as an above average family friendly diner. It’s not a place that I would rave about or want to come to every day but it is a place that you won’t be disappointed if you come for any meal. It’s open 24 hours and they serve the full menu all day long. Who doesn’t occasionally want pancakes for dinner, or BBQ for breakfast??? Today I came in after church on my continued search of quality diners in Hampton Roads. The outside of Johnny’s is a little run-down and the inside shows that they are open 24hrs a day. It’s not dirty but it is used. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. For my meal, I had the Johnny’s Bonus. 3 eggs, sausage, hash browns, and toast. The only thing that wasn’t perfect was the hash browns. They were a little bland, I prefer hash browns with a little onion, my hash browns were just potatoes. Nothing that couldn’t be fixed with some hot sauce. My friend had the western omelet. It was fluffy, thick, and cheesy. I probably should have gone for an omelet… Overall I enjoyed Johnny’s. I would love to try their lunch menu next time.

I quite like this place, its warm and vibrant. I love the the idea of of blue and cream concept, its very refreshing. Just like other neighborhood diners this place offers real greasy and soul comfort food. I don’t mean it as negative just simply stating the fact that you can’t get out this place with a hungry stomach. As for today’s visit, I ordered the Western omelette filled with ham, cheese, tomato, onion, mushrooms and pepper served with hash brown and english muffin. Honestly, nothing spectacular with this meal its simple and delicious. The omelette is well seasoned and melts in my mouth. This is exactly what a diner is all about. A true home cooked meal. I’m super impressed with the customer service. They’re quick and efficient. The server is polite and friendly. I will definitely come back maybe lunch!!!

My fiancé and I eat here today… I was pleasantly surprised. I had a bacon cheeseburger and it was exactly what I was looking for GREASY!!! I’ve been looking for an establishment with greasy burgers and this hit the nail on the head. I didn’t give five stars because the service wasn’t all that great. But best burger from an hole in the wall joint in Norfolk.

I would not suggest this place to the homeless man down the street. When we walked in, my boyfriend said how it has a nice welcoming feeling. It was okay. I like the fact that it does have an old country feeling and you can see the cook making your food. It took 35 min to serve me dry sausage, over cooked scrambled eggs and semi-burnt toast. I’m appalled and I don’t ever wanna come in here again. Mcdonalds breakfast seems much more appealing and I rarely eat there.

My girlfriend and I decided to give this place a try because it looked old, and we wanted greasy diner food. For starters, I am going to also, like some of the other reviews, warn you this place is not in the best of neighborhoods. Be careful in this area. I had to use the restroom during my visit. The male’s restroom was a disaster. Thank god I only had to go number one or I’d be a walking disease pool, I am sure of it. I didn’t want go in for breakfast, because all the reviews were for breakfast, so we went in for dinner instead. I ordered the double master cheese burger, and my girlfriend ordered the chili and a grilled cheese sandwich. We both agree that the food was above par for a diner, and absolutely delicious. My burger weighed half a pound. The only downside is they don’t serve fries, just chips. That really made me a bit angry.

The perfect late night greasy spoon diner. There’s no frills at all here. Upon walking in the door there’s a counter that runs almost the entire span of the restaurant and additional booths and tables along the wall. The food is simple diner food. One side of the plastic covered piece of paper called the menu is breakfast foods and the other side is lunch /dinner. Last night, or I should say about 1:15am this morning we rolled in here ahead of the bar crowd and ordered up some breakfast. I went the ‘big bonus breakfast’ which consisted of 3 eggs any way you like them, hash browns, bacon(or sausage if you want that), toast and a side of corned beef hash. The food was on the grill as soon as we ordered it and on the counter a few minutes after that exactly as ordered. Good to go. :)

I’ve been going to Johnny’s Diner for the past year or so as it’s not far from where I live. So, with that said, standby for a brief revue… Location: Tidewater Drive directly across the street from Hardee’s. I wouldn’t say it’s in a particularly«dangerous» area but I’d advise you to keep your head on a swivel. Pan Handler/Eccentric Person Alert Level is low but probable. For that, I docked a star. Typically, they(panhandlers) prefer the greener pastures and volume the evil entity known as Wal-Mart provides across the street. Of note, not sure why but there’s another Johnny’s Diner about a mile or so away on Little Creek Road heading east towards Chesapeake Boulevard. Talk about a School of Redundancy School… Ambiance: Meh. I’m a dude. And a simple one at that. I can tell you that there’s no doubt that the place has been here for some number of years. You’re not going to find any of that faux polished Johnny Rockets Diner look. Nope. This is fine Diner dinning right here! Bar stools near the grill area and cramped booth styled seating throughout the rest of the restaurant. Food: this is where I fail my fellow Unilocalies. As many times as I’ve been here I’ve only ordered their breakfast — the Big Bonus Breakfast to be exact. 3 eggs to order, choice of meat(Gotta have my artery clogging corned beef hash), choice of grits or hash browns(hash extra crispy for me please!) and choice of biscuit, toast(I get the whole wheat toast), or muffin. All are served with a nice sizable portion. Once upon a time they also included a small shot glass of juice(orange or apple) but since the start of this year the economy has caused them to stop serving it. Coffee is free refill but the coffee cups are smallish and resemble tea cups. I’m a huge coffee drinker so I docked a star for that. My food has always been prepared exactly how I like it and in my opinion the quality rivals or at least exceeds IHOP. Warning: You’re going to get some grease here. My gall bladder learned that lesson when I still had it! But it’s that good grease though! Hold up! Did I just say, «…that GOOD grease???» WOW! Yeah… I sure did. Oh well, *starts singing to the tune of It’s a Small World* it’s a Dinerrrrr after allllll!!!

Solid diner food. Good pancakes, good eggs, good biscuits, good hashbrowns. The sausage gravy is too peppery for my taste, but what really annoys me is whatever margarine they use when heating the biscuits on the griddle or for the toast. It’s way too salty, and ruins my enjoyment of the bread unless I drown it in egg yolk. However, they DO generally know how to cook eggs to order, which is not always the case at hole-in-the-wall diners like this one. I have never had a burger here, but I hear they’re good. The clientele is sometimes a little sketchy, but possibly because I’m usually there at 3 am.

I’d rather go here than IHOP any day. It’s what you’d expect from a 24-hour diner. Good food, nice waitresses. There are two Johnny’s Diners in Norfolk, within about a mile of each other. Go to this one instead of the one on Little Creek Rd.
