I have been to almost every range in the immediate area, and Camp Allen definitely has it’s perks, but I feel that they are hampered by the drawbacks. Open to DoD and Law Enforcement only, it’s nice they you do not get a lot of riff raff in the lanes. The membership prices are amazing as are the cost of ammo. Although it has these positives I still have reservations coming here. The staff is what you normally get a gun stores and ranges: they’re knowledgeable, experienced, and somewhat helpful, but can be very condescending, sarcastic, and impolite — enough for me to avoid it completely. I feel that this comes from the manager on down with a few exceptions. Waits on most weekends are impossible. Table space is limited. As many times I have given this place a chance, I cannot recommend. Bob’s in Norfolk or Superior on VB Blvd are better options in my opinion.

This place is buried on the base, so turn up your GPS and get ready to do some shooting. Yes, it is open to the public and the pistol bay rental is pretty reasonable, so I was surprised to see so many open lanes on a Saturday morning. They’ll want to see your ID and you have to fill out a brief questionnaire regarding gun and range safety. No biggie, it takes only a few minutes and you only have to do it the first time you shoot here. Nice organized and modern pistol bay with an electronic target belt. Pick your distance, press the button and your silhouette goes out to the required range. Fire when ready! They sell targets or you can bring your own. They also sell ammo, but I wouldn’t depend on them to have what you need as ammo is in short supply these days.(They were out of .380 so I was glad I had brought my own.)
