Sam’s Texas Sub Shop

Finally got over to Sams Texas Sub Shop and have to say, boy was it perfect. Had the meatball sub and it was one of the best meatball subs I’ve ever had, definitely getting a return visit for sure.

I’ve been to this place more than a few times, and all I can say is that Sam/​joe makes his sandwiches with nothing but love. If you haven’t tried it Sam’s is a must, and don’t forget the hot pepper relish.

The best sub I’ve ever eaten is located here, by far. Their Black and Blue Brisket Sub is stuff of legend. It was absolutely delicious.
The hospitality is top notch as well. I was greeted with a smile upon entering, food was brought to my table, I was checked on after trying the food, reminded to refill my drink before leaving, and thanked upon my departure. Top notch. And it wasn’t just my experience, I witnessed it the same for everyone there.

Not only are the subs fresh and amazing, the owners are AWESOME! You can tell they take pride in the quality of food they serve. Joe and Jen are special people… they are never too busy to chat with and get to know their customers!
They should also be applauded for constantly giving back to the community!

Second time eating here. Both times the sub is on point. Staff are always really friendly and helpful. All I can say is I wish they had one of these shops in Virginia Beach near town center.

Such a great sandwich shop! Portions are perfect for the price — high quality ingredients and enough food to fill you up for lunch but still able to eat dinner. There are traditional options as well as more adventurous options for sandwiches and a build your own veggie sandwich option. The sides are delicious and the service is always fast and friendly. I generally get my food to go, but have enjoyed dining in as well.

This place is very nice. I never walk out unsatisfied. Every sub they make is so good and has nice little sides. I had the potato salad as my side. It’s very good. They also have like home cooked desserts. Love this place

This place is awesome! Super friendly owners who are happy to assist and will take the time to get to know you. One of the best subs in Norfolk for sure. The macaroni salad is excellent. Highly suggest stopping by!

I have had sub’s all over the world, this place might be our new favorite! It took about 10 orders for me to post this but better late than never. My last visit, I ordered pick up, and at the last minute my pregnant wife changed her mind. Not only did the owner/​operators understand, they made the new order and complimentary gave the sub for free. Some of the best customer service I have ever seen! Thank you!
Lastly, really cool atmosphere with a great cold beer selection and killer sweet tea! All their sub’s are outstanding with fresh bread but my favorite is their Almost 2lb meatball sub… Outstanding!!! Also, she makes these layer brownies that will blow your mind! It will be a sad day when my wife and I have to leave the area. We highly recommend this establishment and wish it years of great business!

So the wife and I were looking for a spot to do lunch. When I looked up Sam’s and saw a 5 star average rating with 70 reviews I thought, «what sorcery is this, no one can maintain a 5 star rating this long». Well it didn’t take long to fall under this place’s spell. I had the Santa Fe, the wife got the Black and Blue, this is the first time that she’s refused to swap half of our sandwiches to the other… ever. She was rather firm on the matter in fact. We also split (the only thing we did share) one of their big chocolate chunk cookies which was soft, chewy, and everything a good cookie should be. These are wonderful people who asked if our son was eating solids yet and then proceeded to bring us some watermelon and grapes for our son to eat. The wife also liked the fact that they have unsweetened tea to mix with the sweet tea. Just get here, their food and customer service will have you singing their praises too.

Had the brisket and it was SO. GOOD. I wasn’t even that hungry but I could have eaten another whole half of a sandwich (I just got it in little sliders).
I also got the chili and it was a bit bland which was disappointing. I love chili and thought it could have been done right here. but it’s missing some spice and flavor.
Wish we had had enough of an appetite to eat the very homemade looking cookies.

I drug a Texan along with me, just to make sure. She quite literally yelled at me when I said, «Weird, no Texas Pete’s», to which she scoffed, «That’s NOT TEXAN! It’s made in like, freaking NORTH CAROLINA». So there you go. There’s that.
We opted for sandwiches that had brisket, because, who would come here and order a salad?
The Four Horseman had just enough heat to not be unbearable (your taste may vary). I went with the Black and Blue. Personally I could’ve done with a little more texture in the Black and Blue, or a sauce, but there was plenty of hotsauce on the table, and it was perfect.
The bread was fabulous, fresh, just slightly toasted, enough that it doesn’t sandpaper the roof of your mouth, but doesn’t turn into a gushy mess when you pour on the hot sauce.
If you’re down this way, stop in to Sam’s, they’re that step above your normal «Sub-​Shop» and Texan approved.

It may be hidden behind the big Cogans, but this place is a very charming spot on Colley ave. the black and blue sandwich was really good, servers were very very nice and the place has many items for decorations that makes it a very exclusive place in Norfolk. I strongly recommend going there on Saturday, when drinks and sides are included on the subs’ price.

I went today for an early dinner and have to say the place is great. The place is clean and looks well-​kept. The man behind the counter was friendly and helpful. In fact, a couple of dudes rolled in while I was eating and asked if they could change the channel to watch the soccer game and the guy told them to put in on whatever they wanted. It may seem like a small thing but some other mom-​and-​pop type places aren’t as accomodating and will keep the TV on whatever they’re watching.
I got the day’s special, The Beast, with macaroni salad and it was awesome. The meat was cooked perfectly, the lettuce was fresh, and the sauce had a bit of a kick that tied it all together. The macaroni salad also tasted fresh and had a nice flavor to it. It reminds me of my grandmother’s macaroni salad back in Texas. Oh, they also have sweet tea available. You can’t beat that.
I did a quick look at the board and saw the Black and Blue, Four Horsemen, and some Reubens. They look to have a good selection. I’ll definitely be back to try other sandwiches. I did get the Sam’s Sub Club card so I’ll be getting some punches in the coming months.
The other Unilocal reviews were spot on and if you try it, I think you’ll be impressed.

Amazing food great people. Had the black and blue tasted amazing. Nicest people around that made you feel welcome and important.

Came here after my previous plan for lunch failed (just say no to frozen microwavable dinners). Anyways,
I was craving a Reuben and I searched long and hard for a place that sells them. Not everyone can make a Reuben sandwich believe it or not. So I grade very hard when it comes to this sandwich!
This restaurant met my expectations for a pretty good Reuben. My only complaint? More sauce please! I’m a «saucy» person and I like lots of sauce on my Reuben. Anyways, my personal preference. Sandwich was a good size for the price and it was delicious. Add $ 2 more and you get a combo which consists of your sandwich, chips and drink. Took about 10 minutes to get my sandwich (there were four other people ahead of me) but when it came out it was nice and piping hot (Mmmmmm). First time coming here, will definitely be back to try other items on their menu.

Hubby said the black and blue was the SHIZNIT BOMB DIGGITY FO’SHO to order again!
He also stated the customer service was phenomenal and that establishment was clean

Tried «The Beast» and it may be the best roast beef sub I’ve ever had. I highly recommend it. Ordered the side of macaroni salad — it was recommended by the cashier — also amazing and not too heavy.
Tried a bite of my fiancé’s BLT, it was incredibly good.
I can’t wait to go back, is everything on their menu amazing?
