Great local resource for sandwiches, sundries and wine. Very helpful staff, and a nice selection of goods. As a downtown resident, Shady Grove is a frequent stop for me.

Very nice neighborhood market. The owners and everyone that work there are very friendly and helpful if you need anything. There is always fresh, local produce and baked goods. Nice beer selection and very tasty pre-made meal options from some of the local restaurants. It’s certainly pricier than a Harris Teeter or 7 – 11, but the atmosphere is much better and you’re supporting local business — and a good one! Definitely give it a try if you’re in the area!

This little market has my heart and I’m sure if I lived closer they would have the majority of my paycheck as well. A great place to stop in to grab a fancy beverage and grab a quick lunch to-go with products from some of my other favorite spots around the 757.(I love you Ten Top!) Now offering fresh local produce, check their FB or twitter to keep up with the latest items. Carrying convenience items, local /holistic pet foods, ready made foods, ales and ciders(the local craft beer scene is well represented), fresh foods, bakery items… this store has most bases covered. A few outdoor tables and a dog bowl out front make this a perfect little spot.

My first visit to the shop was on their 2 year anniversary. I lucked out because they had sandwiches, New Belgium Beer, and other samples out to celebrate the occasion. It was pretty busy and it was nice to see people come in and out of the store sometimes to just say hi. The owners are very friendly and will stop and talk to you if you’re in the mood. The shop is cozy with shelving supplying ample space for products. They try to keep things organic and local, but have plenty of recognizable branded items. The shop receives daily deliveries from local bakers, kitchens, and sandwich makers(that rhymed) for lunch and more. It’s located in the Freemason section of Norfolk and is truly a cornershop. The streets surrounding it are cobblestone and the houses are beautiful and aged. Stop by just to check out where it’s at and it also neighbors Cure. Nice to see a local shop doing well in the area.

I stop here to grab a lunch on my way to work every so often. Lots of fresh and nutritious offerings, way healthier than 7-eleven! Some things are a bit pricier than I’m used to, but then again this place supports other local business and the quality of the foods is much higher than in other convenience stores. So it works out and I’m happy to spend a bit more. The people here are always super nice and helpful. Good service is always a plus!

I’m a big fan of businesses that support other local businesses. That sort of makes Shady Grove an awesome little corner store. I went for a tasting from Artisan Breads in Portsmouth which had some really nice offerings but lets be honest … I was really there for the beer tasting from Ft. Collins’ own New Belgium. I LOVE their beers and I LOVE the brewery and the tour is the bestest ever. So they had several offerings ranging from their spring seasonal«Dig» plus a couple you can find on almost any store shelves«Fat Tire» and«Tripple». They also had their special Lips of Faith beer. «Biere de Garde» to sample and I ended up buying a bottle of this beauty. Ten Top was there sampling a couple of sandwiches and it turns out Shady Grove will have them on stock for those in need of sammie awesomeness during lunch breaks or whenever. There’s lots of Win/Win going on here, folks.

Nifty little market that is inviting and warm. Choices aren’t extensive, but it looked like everything was of good quality. From Pasha Mezze wraps and hummus products to Virgil’s cream soda, this caters to the upscale and trendy crew who live nearby and can swing by the place for healthy convenience food. The store was clean and promotes local events such as the recent New Belgium beer tasting that also featured the nearby Ten Top sandwich shop and Artisan’s Bakery and Café breads. I look forward to returning to better peruse the store on the way home from work, and will need to look into the wine referred to by Sean T. and Betty T. A practical place that is done well!

I was also informed by a local that Shady Grove was organic and had a selection of nice wines and beer. Met Bruce at the register. Nice fellow. He was so kind that I showed him his reviews on Unilocal. He was really pleased. I like the store. Clean and had really good products and priced fairly. There is even a water dish outside for pets on a leash. I purchased some curry chicken which was outstanding and some beer and wine for the week here at the hotel. Where I live courtesy and manners are rare. The storeowners on this street really stood out with their kindness and warmth. I have seen some rude owners. I really appreciate it when they are naturally kind and don’t see me as their income. Time to cover down on that curry again. Yum.

Nice little neighborhood convenience store that I stumbled on. You can find anything you need to whip up a quick meal without the hassle of going over to Colonial or 21st street to visit a larger market. They also have plenty of beer and wine, while the selection isn’t large they cover the basics. However, if you’re looking for smokes, you’ll have to go to 7-Elven. No tobacco products here.

High end, local, fresh items. Good beer selection. Convenient location. Dog friendly. Tuesday night wine tastings twice a month. Very nice couple owns and runs the store. Expensive place to do all your shopping but definitely get your milk, eggs, beer, wine and maybe produce here.

This place is awesome, due almost entirely to the extremely nice couple that runs the place. I come here for milk and eggs. Their Oberweiss milk is cheaper than the farmer’s market last time I checked. They have a great selection of prepared/frozen food. If they don’t have something you want, just ask. They are really receptive to customer feedback. They have wine tastings every few weeks which are a blast. Only complaint is that the beer selection is not as big as I would like. Would love to see some more bombers of beer. They don’t all have to be refrigerated!
