Ideal Homes

I own two Ideal Homes houses, unfortunately. The first one was alright, but you can tell the craftsmanship is subpar in all of these homes. They’re so hell bent on saving time and money that they don’t even paint the tops of the door jams. Who does that? I know no one sees them but, c’mon man. Our second has been a nightmare. They can’t seem grade any of the lots properly. We had a drainage issue in the backyard of our first home and now in our second the backyard just flat out doesn’t drain. You can drive through the neighborhood and see these same types of issues along the sides of many other homes. Our neighborhood is on a hill too, so there is plenty of fall. We notified them on our 90 day walk through at which time they said someone would come out to take a look. Never heard a word. Emailed them another three months down the road, didn’t hear back for about another three months. At that time a guy came out and said ‘the water hasn’t been standing for more than 48 hours, not our problem’ as we’re both staring at the massive mud slop. Which is convenient considering that the problem was first reported to them in November and they didn’t even bother to look at it until the following summer when temperatures were blazing. Over the winter we had weeks where the water wouldn’t drain. They offered to plant some fescue to ‘soak it up’. Never showed. So we told them again at our one year walk through. this time they ‘PROMISED’. So it has now been over 18 months. About two months ago I got a call from the guy that did the actually grading, said he’d fix it but it was too wet so call him when it isn’t. Called him during a dry week, said he’d be out later that week because surprisingly they had to fix someone else’s draining issue and would already be out here. Never happened. At this point we have contacted a lawyer and are moving forward legally, but what a pain in the ass. How hard is it for someone to make a little note that something needs to get fixed and then follow up on it to make sure it has? I’d be out of a job if I operated like this. Needless to say we’re stuck here for the time being, but our next home most definitely will not be an Ideal home and I wouldn’t recommend them to any friends or family.
