Firestone Complete Auto Care

They are a bunch of crooks trying to take advantage of a woman. They told me I needed front brakes on my truck as it wasn’t safe driving. I, in turn, took it elsewhere where I was told still have about 5,000 miles on the front brakes. So basically a woman walks into Firestone & they feel the need to screw you over by telling you unnecessary work needs to be done asap for safety reasons. No, I say screw you Firestone. You give auto mechanics a bad rap. I found a great place that is trustworthy & will never look back. A 1 star is way too much credit.

As per your request, I am replying with my issue at the Firestone located in Harwood Heights, IL on January 21, 2016
I brought my truck in for a routine oil change & asked to have them also look at the rear tire. The oil change was fine. I received a call back saying the oil change was complete but that I needed a new tire as they couldn’t fix the original (which I purchased a full set of tires at that same Firestone a few years back). The original quote over the phone on the tire was $ 247. I told the man I couldn’t purchase it that day & that I thought it seemed rather high for 1 tire when I bought all 4 there & paid somewhere around $ 800 – 900. He was able to get the price down to $ 202.80. He also told me I needed brakes as my vehicle was unsafe to drive (which is very scary to hear). He said the rotors were shot & they couldn’t cut them as they were already too thin. I was quoted around $ 306 for new front pads & new front rotors. I told him I had to hold off as I wasn’t prepared financially for that that day. This work order # is 192 292 dated 1÷21÷16.
A couple of days later I spoke with a friend who owns a very reputable auto repair shop. I explained what Firestone told me. I dropped the truck off by him to give me a price. He said from what he was able to see, I did not need front brakes, as previously indicated by Firestone that I needed them right away. He said I have roughly 5000 miles left on the front pad & rotors. Now hearing this upset me as I’ve spent a bundle at Firestone. This type of customer service is what truly gives auto mechanics a bad name. They see a woman walk in & think they are going to put the fear of God in her by saying how unsafe your vehicle is just to make the sale when the customer never really needed the work done. That is bad business.
Harvey Firestone’s quote below makes me think he wouldn’t approve of this type of behavior if he was still around. Maybe there should be additional training given at each store so not to screw over the average American.

These guys have figured out the art of under-​promising and over-​delivering.
My hood latch wasn’t latching, and (since I do a ton of highway driving) it was causing major issues in my life.
I was leaving work and stumbled across this place. I dropped in and they said they couldn’t get it in to look at it for 45 minutes and there would be a $ 20something fee to examine it. I wasn’t exited about that, but I dealt with it. Alright.
Thirty minutes later not only had they examined it, they had already found out that the part was bad, had to be replaced, had to be special ordered from the dealer and wouldn’t be here until the morning, and would cost $ 200. Not only that, they had gotten the latch to close (so I could hot the highway again!). I didn’t have to pay in advance for the examination fee OR the special ordered part… #winning
I agreed to come back in the morning and get it taken care of. When I arrived in the morning, I was told that the part wouldn’t be there until about noon, so the repair could be ready about 1. I went to Denny’s to eat, and got a call at 1130 that my car was done and the cost would be 188 after taxes.
That’s how you handle business, ladies and gents. I’ll be back.

I don’t normally use Unilocal all that much as far as writing reviews, just reading them. However, due to my last visit to the Norridge Firestone, I felt they deserved a shout out on here. I’ve used them for years, but just for basic services, ie tires. (I LOVE MY DESTINATION AT2’S!). I have an ’06 Nissan Xterra that I’m absolutely obsessed with. I normally get all my major work done at the dealership. This time though, the dealer prices where way to high for the work that was going to be done. (Shocks, struts, sway bar, and 2 tires) Of course Firestone was next on my list of places to check out. I got a really great deal!!! I couldn’t have been more happier with the price, let alone the treatment I received. Miguel was the one who checked me in and was very nice considering it was 7:30 am and I myself was still half asleep. While my vehicle was there, I received a phone call from Jonie asking me if I knew I had a major oil leak. Of course I had no clue. I assumed everything was fine since I had just had it into the dealership and they mentioned nothing about this. Turns out I had a bad gasket. Jonie was even kind enough to send me pictures of the underside of my car. I couldn’t believe it. It looked like I drove through a huge puddle of oil. It was everywhere. They offered to fix it no problem. The mechanic that was working on «my baby» was Sergio, one of their most experienced. And after this visit, I am going to be requesting him from now on. When I got my truck back, it felt brand new. I have 124k on it and still had all the factory parts on it. Knock on wood, nothing has ever happened with this car. Very reliable, however its at the mileage where everything is starting to go. I know it’s Sergios job to fix vehicles, but I am extremely grateful for the work he did. And when it was all done, he was very kind talking to me about what he did all day on it.
I’ve never had an issue with any of the staff here. All are very kind and professional. I do, however, want to do a special shout out to Jonie for helping (and dealing) with me and all my questions and issues. She’s always willing to help you out however she can. And also, Sergio. Great mechanic. He will be the only one I trust with my vehicle from now on, and that says a lot. I don’t let many people work on my car because I know how some mechanics can be. Not at the Norridge Firestone though. They are honest with you about everything and will help you do what’s best for your vehicle! Get your car worked on here!!! You won’t regret it!!!

I agree with Racer S below, they are great with tires… not so much with anything else.

What an awesome experience! They stay late to fix my overheating complicated issue while I waited. They even offer me a courtesy ride home and back but got the part replaced right away sense I really wanted to wait with the car.

I’ve read a lot of negative reviews for this Firestone location — but I want to add a review based on my good experiences. Maybe people need to review the name of this place — Firestone. Not Jiffy Lube, not your local mechanic — their focus is on tires!
I’ve brought tires here to be mounted and balanced multiple times (typically I buy my tires from TireRack). They do an amazing job! My car is a very light car, and is very sensitive to tire balance. I drive on city streets/​highways, but also on the race track occasionally. Other places seem to be able to balance tires for driving under ~60 MPH but when you get above 80 the tires shake like crazy. Not so here — I’ve been up to 130 on the track with no vibrations at all. Great job — some of the best balancing work I’ve experienced.
I bought a replacement battery here a while back — and amazingly, they had my obscure size in stock, charged, and ready to go. They’re also a great place to drop off used oil — no charge (and I brought in 3 gallons!).
Friendly staff, great customer service. But again, focus on what they do best — tires.

The people were moderately nice, but knew nothing about my car. I asked if they could look at my BMW because I had just bought it. They didn’t even open the hood, but came back and told me everything looked great and sent me off (after charging me for it). There were a number of things that needed attention, all of which were very apparent had they even tried to look. Won’t go back here.

I found myself with a leak and then a flat after getting an oil change at Jiffy Lube. Because it was about an hour before closing neither they nor Just Tires would take me. The technician at Firestone stayed late to help me out of my fix. Jonie, who took my call and worked the desk, was very nice and helpful. I also observed her go out of her way and find options to help a customer who did not speak English and who came in just as the place was closing up. Jonie even offered the woman a lift home. I am grateful for the good and fast service — just what I needed in the situation.

Let me set the scene– It was 8am on a Thursday morning and its been raining cats and dogs. I was on my way to work on the Kennedy when the left wiper started to malfunction and it wouldn’t wipe. Obviously it was pretty dangerous to drive at that point so I got off at Harlem and pulled into the first auto shop I see which was the Firestone. I walked in, explained my issue to the girl at the counter and her response was, «Our electrician is off today, there’s nothing we can do.» Without even looking at my car, or see what the issue was, she basically just told me I’m SOL. I’m like WTF, you can’t have the courtesy of sending someone to look at the issue before saying there nothing you can do because wipers are apparently an electrical issue that requires an electrician? I’m desperate at this point, its raining and I need to get to work. I begged her to just have someone to look at it but no dice, she keeps on insisting that its an electrical issue and that their ONE electrician is off today.
So I left and went to another shop a few mile away. Turns out the problem was a loose screw and the guy there helped me tighten it and problem solved. it was simply fix that the laziness of one worker at Firestone would not even bother to look at. Thanks for nothing.

I would give this place zero stars but the app doesn’t allow. Too keep this short let me first say that my dad was busy and so I chose to take my car here instead.
Now onto what happened. I dropped off my car for an oil change and an alignment. They didn’t do the alignment because they said I need all sorts of parts replaced on the drivers side and passengers side before they could do it. They gave me an estimate of over $ 4,000. I gave my dad the print out a couple of weeks later and we went to Orielly’s auto parts to buy all the parts. My dad gets under the car and takes everything apart just to find that there isn’t any wear on these parts. What the car did need replaced was something from the strut. This part wasn’t even mentioned by Fire Stone. This damaged part is what was causing the wiggle in the steering wheel that led me to believe that the car needed an alignment.
We went back to Orielly’s to return over $ 400 worth of parts. The part my car needed was just over $ 30. Need I say more? This place is a rip off. Don’t patronize them.

Came in for a flat tire. I already had the tire of the car. The last said my cat is going to go next which it did. The techs did more talk and play then work. I guess its because its closing time and they don’t want to get another car, don’t know but its been now more then an hour. Does it take that long to fix a flat?

CONSIDERED YOURSELVES WARNED… I came to buy new all season tires since it’s winter. They gave me 2 choices, the primewell (the cheapest), and the Firestone. I was about to choose Primewell. and they were like «Just to let you know, you will get what you paid for…» good point, so I chose the Firestone. 3 hours later, the job is done. about to pay and they had me sign that, «I Understood that they put Summer Tires…» and I THOUGHT THAT THE FIRESTONE TIRES WERE ALL SEASON!!! To my mistake I should have really clarified at first… so I asked and they were like «Since the Firestone has better quality than the Primewell All Season… Firestone has a better grip!»…but it’s still a summer tire and its the start of winter… maybe I made a mistake but clearly they capitalized on that.

When in for an oil change 11/24/14.Had appointment 4 9.00 am. did not leave until almost 10.30.I asked the Service associate Edgar foe prices on air filters before they worked on my car, but he seemed to concerned about selling overpriced tires to other customers. So 45 minutes later after the oil change he quotes some prices and then replaces the filters. Which by the way were overpriced & took another ½ hour to install. After all that aggravation on my way home I check my odometer and see that the oil pressure gauge was never reset and my tire pressure was never checked. So I call EDGAR back and ask him why and he tells me we changed your oil and hung up. Moral of the story if you want an oil change go to Jiffy lube if you want to be annoyed and ripped off go to Firestone. Worst Customer Service EVER!

* I have had my Ford Escape fixed here about 3 times now.
* Brought it in for a front end noise problem, they gave me a quote, called me a few hours later and said that the tech missed some thing and they had to order another part. That part was FREE to me because they missed it the first time. They didn’t even mention it to me!

I went here for an oil change on a Saturday and was out the door in less than an hour! The staff was very courteous and sharp. They pointed out my battery was very low and that was my strut/​shock was leaking (all of which are true). They did not pressure me at all to do additional work. They simply informed and gave me copies to take home. There is plenty of parking in the lot and inside there are chairs and a tv to watch (you can even change the channels with the remote on the table!!) and very clean bathrooms. This is definitely my new favorite Firestone location.

Went int for a $ 500 tune up and found out afterwards they only filled my transmission fluid half way and I was having problems changing gears immediately afterwards.
Was quoted just over $ 400 for axle repair.
Took my Jeep down to Iggy’s down the street, they filled my transmission fluid found my front stabilizer bar was broken (how Firestone missed that, is frightening because the Jeep doesn’t even need to be lifted to see that or to even replace it).
So Iggy’s «axle repair» was $ 220 for the part and labor, as well as topping off my transmission fluid. I guess Firestone was in such a hurry to swindle their next customer they couldn’t have even been arsed to fill my transmission fluid all the way. Or hey, they probably wanted my car back in there again so they could try to leech some more money out of me unnecessarily.
So not only can you expect to be ripped off, expect to have shoddy work done on top of it. Do yourself a favor and go to Iggy’s Muffler shop a block away on Wilson. They’re as busy as they are there for a reason. Quality.

This place is a rip off, they will show you a print out indicating your car has more miles so they can show you need more repairs and flushes. Some of the pricing is much higher than the dealer. Why would I have the work done here? If you need tires go to Costco or Sam’s club and save money.
No matter what car you take in you will be show that you need at least a $ 800 worth of work. .It is clear that the front counter have sales goals and get paid commission to push services!

First time I took my car there, they said I needed work that wasn’t needed at all. (I’m no mechanic, but a friend who is, and actually used to work at a different Firestone, looked at what they said I needed and said it was wrong.) OK — so then I needed a new tire and battery. This location is close to where I work, so I figured, how could they screw that up? Well, they managed. My car has low-​profile tires on it; they caught the skip plate underneath the car on the rack and ripped it in a few places, fastening it with zip ties instead of the bolts that it was fastened with. The battery — well, my car has some plastic housings that cover things under the hood, and they did the same thing! Ripped things off instead of unfastening the bolts, damaging a few of them, and reattached some of them (if they bothered at all) with zip ties again! Since when are zip ties used by competent auto mechanics? Did they say anything to me, noooooo — I found out when I next got my oil changed at Jiffy Lube. I learned my lesson — will not go here again! You’ve been warned!

These guys are great! Fast service, honest and they even show you what is needed, explain everything so you’re not left in the dark when it comes to repairs and maintenance. It helps that they are affordable !

Have been getting oil changes with this company for the past year. I appreciate the member discounts they give for any service I need (oil change, brakes, etc.) The customer service is always great. They always greet me by name and in todays instance as I waited in the store for my vehicle, they updated me constantly to let me know exactly what services they were providing and how much longer I would need to wait.
The one downside is that I had my brakes done and I noticed they were squeaking constantly after the service. They willingly offered to redo the brakes under warranty at no charge but its a shame they didnt get it right the first time. Especially since I love the friendly and informative customer service staff. The wait is never long either and the locatipn is convenient since I live down the street. Overall a good experience.
